Traps - How much do you shrug ?

Does anyone else find that they can kinda super flare their traps to look berserk, but they just look normal rest of the time and no one would think they were anything special? I also found if i hold my arms out 45 degrees, shrug and then drop my shoulders forcefully my traps come up about six inches, it looks insane but i think it's just extra scapular rotation or something not really me having large traps, is this common?
Unfortunately not, I’ve never been able to get them to flex like a bicep or anything does, just a little more definition with flexing but not too much mass is what I’ve noticed.

I will definitely be trying this exercise, thank you sir. I say sir because your traps are eating your head and I'm scared they're gonna eat me next

If I made some time in my routine to hit up a gym instead of only doing at home workouts, I would absolutely follow this. I don’t have a problem admitting when I don’t know something and I have to tell you man, I’ve never seen anyone do those type of squats you were doing at an incline. I was impressed the whole video and then you started squatting to full extension and back up with 315 for some reps. That’s gotta be hard **** man. Good work. My traps are big but they aren’t that big, haha
 
LOL! I got it made, because I'm too fat to have abs!
Anyone at your age pulling your physique off deserve abs on their traps, you have huge abs man, definitely not fat but I know you are messing around. I hope I look that good when im a little older.
 
Those no hands squats are nut.
 
I never watch you tube, but I did enjoy both video's. I will be trying those shrugs !!
 
Anybody try doing shrugs on the seated cable row machine? I did them the other day and was surprised how well it targeted the upper and mid trap area. People will look at you funny, but I sat about 45 degrees back holding the cable directly out in front of me with arms straight. Instead of pulling with the arms, I just did shrugs. This utilizes the scapulars some as well. I'm going to continue this for awhile and see how it works.

I dig the idea, might try it.

I'm in the middle of my 4 sets of (what I'm calling) "Wes Shrugs". Feeling it! Don't usually sweat during shrugs but this has me working for sure. Gonna be awhile before I can move real weight like the big boys though. Baby steps. :LOL:

I know that with a lot of work, science, and nutrition we can overcome some genetic traits, but at the end of the day genetics definitely do play a role. I mean I have been oly lifting with crossfit amounts of volume for a decade and I do not get the huge traps others do. But I've had pecks since I was in high school and my best pumps are always my canonball shoulders....

my take on this stuff is that when I'm in the gym I work to get the most bang I can out of the things that are naturally well developed, and then try to hammer the things that aren't so good.

I think there is a chicken and egg thing to this though.

do runners build a running body, or do people with a physic built for running naturally gravitate towards running because it's something their body does well and thus is more enjoyable?

I have to really force myself to put in good solid legs days and squat because I suck at it. my squat is typically no where near my deadlift and often times not a lot higher than my bench. But I grew up racing BMX, football, snowboarding etc... all things that would have had major leg requirements....
 
Just do the best you can, it's all we can do !!

Getting ready to go train traps, so I had to watch this video and give this movement a try !!
