Well, it probably has something to do with the fact that the world is 70% water, yet we all likely have water conserving toilets in our houses these days. Unfortunately, the water level is so low in the bowl that you inevitably end up shitting directly on the dry porcelain every time. Then you get so little water upon flushing that you have to run three or more flush cycles.

You would think this would be the end, but you are still left with a few remnants on the side of the bowl, so you have to use your toilet brush to remove them. Then, what do you do with the toilet brush? Put it back in the brush holder with sh*t smears on it? Hell no! You gotta turn on the tub water spout and clean your brush under the running water, and then clean up your tub with more running water and a cleaning product of your choice.

So at the end of the day, taking 1 sh*t in a modern day American toilet results in utilizing the same amount of water that would be required to hydrate a family of 4 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for several days..
