I'm looking for a supplement for my elderly father (who hates takes supplements and lots of capsules) a supplement that he could take that could help him regenerate his liver after years of alcoholism.

I was looking at NOW Liver Refresh, but the ingredients seem a bit low.

Supplement Facts
Serving Size: 3 Veg Capsules
Servings Per Container: 30
Amount per Serving % Daily Value
* Percent Daily Values are based on a 2,000 calorie diet.
† Daily Value not established.
Calories 10
Total Carbohydrate 1 g < 1%*
Dietary Fiber < 1 g 3%*
Milk Thistle Extract
(Silybum marianum) (Fruit/Seeds) (Standardized to
240 mg Silymarin Flavonoids - equivalent 80%) 300 mg †
Herbal-Enzyme Blend:
Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) (Leaf), Beet (Beta
vulgaris) (Root), Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) (Leaf),
Pancreatin (Pancreatic Enzymes) 90 mg †
L-Glutathione (Reduced) 100 mg †
N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) 100 mg †
Grape Seed (Standardized Extract)
(Vitis vinifera) (Standardized for Polyphenols) 100 mg †
Alpha Lipoic Acid 100 mg †

But, I was thinking about maybe this or something like this with milk thistle, NAC, Glutathione, and maybe turmeric and add on some TUDCA on top of that if it wasn't included in the formula.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks,
Dan.

NAC and tudca are all I would probably use. I use jarrow NAC and olympus or CEL TUDCA. My dad is in the same boat but has Hep C on top of it. Definitely don’t want to mess around with the liver. What does his doc recommend?

CEL TUDCA &/or SNS Liver Assist XT.

Which is actually great timing because we just got Liver Assist XT back in stock earlier in the week. It comes in a 90 Veg Cap & a 180 Veg Cap size.

That looks like a really good formula. I think I'll go with that and Tudca. Now the problem is getting him to swallow 4 pills everyday.

Thanks. It's a great product. I wish we could get that formula in less capsules but its so loaded with active ingredients, it takes 3 capsules to fit them all into (for Liver Assist XT) and then of course the 1 cap for the TUDCA.

I don't think so in my opinion; not for what he's looking for it for. Good suggestion though; that's something a lot of people don't even think about now days.

The only thing that I have used in the past is Milk Thistle extract (standardized to a % of Silymarin that I don't recall). It seems that the SNS Liver Assist XT products covers that, and a lot more.

IIWIYS - that is what I would start with.

No, it's kind of a common misconception that if you take the organ of the animal you're having problems with it can correct them. Liver tabs are great though. I used to take about 16 of the Beverly Ultra 40 tabs a day. They're like having an extra protein shake. Full of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and it's all very bioavailable. I wouldn't recommend the Animal ones, they're spiked with whey protein concentrate and give bad gas.
