Is Alpha-Yohimbine fat burning effects canceled out by even a slight insulin release?

John Smeton

Legend
I remember studying yohimbine for a while, after using it, quite a few times, and came to the conclusion , esp from Lyle Mcdonald's article, that yohimbine needed to be used with ec stack only and no bcaa's. Does alpha yohimbine work like yohimbine in that even a small amount of insulin release, like taking bcaa's , makes it quite a bit less effective ?

yeah, you cannot have any circulating insulin. Even drinking an artificially sweetened beverage or chewing gum can cause cephalic phase insulin release.

if you are going to use it, why run the risk of having anything render it ineffective? Especially because if you have circulating insulting and it is ineffective it still going to make you feel like **** lol

Which is why when I see flavored fat burners with Y, I wonder why?

i like yohimbine for the great energy + it makes my dick hard---if anything moderate amount of sugar actually increases those effects, for me anyways.

btw-nice to see you posting john!!!

Weirdly enough, yohimbine does the opposite to my manhood.

i agree that is weird :geek:
Certainly is. A Yohimbine induced erection has been part of my morning routine for countless years. It’s one of the first things I do every morning. If I don’t start my day off with that, things just aren’t going to go right..

thats the whole point and why i stopped taking yohimbine because after years of trial and error with it, taking it on empty with ec stack and no bcaa's it wasnt worth it, plus the fact I dont like the yohimbine feeling

This stuff I guess is the same, and it is an moa-b inhibitor so it does cause ec stack to work a bit better

I came to the conclusion with yohimbine that even taking bcaa's , l carnitine , whatever else makes it at least half as effective and maybe cancels it completely

I guess for now Ill keep taking alpha yohimbine bc side effects are low, its inexpensive, and it probably helps ec stack worth somewhat better

i really dont know I can only guess at this point

Having paradoxical effects with alpha-2 antagonists is common I believe. There are different sub-receptors. Low doses of Yohimbine, for instance, increase blood pressure - but high doses can cause severely low blood pressure. The reason being that at low doses, you don't hit one of the sub receptors as hard, but with in creasing doses, that receptor overcomes the effects of the first sub receptor.

I can take Rawaulscine but honestly, the effects overall are difficult to really take advantage of.

Yohimbine has a schizophrenic action in me. It does initially induce erections (once after taking it I was sitting in a meeting at work, trying to hide persistent swelling) but it also causes an anxiety reaction with sweaty palms and feet, and the erection benefits seem to be outweighed by this. I don't know if it's a dosing issue or what, but for me it's not a reliable EQ enhancer. Fat loss yes, but boner enhancing, no.

BTW - Does anyone know the mechanism by which yohimbine triggers hardons? On paper, it should certainly be a boner killer.

It's weird I get, forgive the crudeness, don't like being crude, "stim dick" from anything with Y.
don't fell lonely...i go against the grain with ambien, it actually prevents sleep for me!!!

i would bet there isn't a person on this forum who doesn't have a reaction that goes against the norm on at least 1 drug/supplement.

It increases blood flow, and one of its indications is for ED treatment, why do you think it "should" be a boner killer? Pretty much the mechanisms for all ED treatment are blood flow improvement.

It seems to be stimulating like adrenaline, which typically inhibits erections. Same with pseudoephedrine - it make me amped up but Mr. Winky will have none of it.

So, Yohimbine is a non-selective alpha-antagonist (deactivates). Basically alpha1 and alpha2 receptors have differing effects.

Agonizing (activating) alpha-1 receptors causes an increased breakdown of c-AMP. Antagonizing a1 (like yohimbone does) will decrease the breakdown of c-AMP. In a typical situation and enzyme called phosphodiesterase (PDE) breaks down c-AMP. Viagra inhibits PDE and thus prevents the breakdown of c-AMP. Increased c-AMP causes an increase in Nitric Oxide in the brain, which increases blood flow.

The issue is that Alpha-2 agonists decrease epinephrine levels and induce sedation. Antagonists like Yohimbine thus increase ephedrine levels and increase vasoconstriction (temporarily) and has seemingly contradictory effects to alpha-1 blockade.

Most people seem to have more A1 than A2 receptors, so a lower dose of Y will activate A1 and very few A2 receptors - thus increasing cAMP. As the dose increases, more A2 receptors get activated, creating a self-attenuating effect. Taking too much will activate enough A2 receptors to overcome the effects of the A1 blockade and basically cause contradictory effects.

Another thing is that just taking Y by itself seems to cause an increase in insulin release in some studies. How's that for a gotcha?

hate to contradict this theory but the more y i use the better the erection....i once accidently slightly overdosed on y back in the day when i could buy y in 5gm little bottles...it didn't come with directions for use so i did quarter tsp. got super sweaty and had very fast heartbeat, but i also had a hard-on bigger than ever that i had to put ice on to get it down-couldn't cum even after 45 minutes and my wife said hell no, no more.

caffeine release glucose, but I dont think that little can switch off the effect from yohimbine.
had great results from caffeine + yohimbine alone (and then amp citrate added )

If artificial sweeteners in the amounts found in most pre-workouts cancels out the effects of yohimbine and alpha-yohimbine through insulin spikes then yohimbine may as well be useless. I still notice plenty of effects when I take alpha-yohimbine so I’m skeptical.

we are in agreement...what looks good on paper-----well you know!!!

So black coffee + yohimbine hcl + fasted cardio ? That’s it ? Or just water ?
Either
caffeine enhances Y and its fat burning properties. So you can do either or, personal preference.
Some pop a caffeine Tab + Y + Forskolin 95
That is a great fat burning stack for AM Fasted cardio.

if dosing Y first thing in morning fasted, how long before you can eat to negate effects of insulin release?
