Donald Trump running for president

And just to clarify, I'm not actually anti Republican lol. I'm not politically aligned. My judgement is solely on leadership because that's the part I see.

So I saw Bush come in and thought great. I saw Obama come in and I thought great as well. Domestically I know these 2 had their faults but again, their domestic policies dont affect me. Their international policies do, as does their leadership.

If you ask nearly anyone outside the US, they will say they thought Obama was great. He was charismatic and spoke well. Internally I know that opinion is divided and that's 100% fine.

I liked Obama's leadership style, I liked Bush's leadership style. I'm neither pro Democrat or republican.

So like Ax1, I'm also liking the look of JoJo and the way she speaks. I'm not a fan of Trump or Biden really, but again not because of their policies, but their leadership styles and speaking ability dont capture me like Obama's and Bush's.
as a American trump is doing just what he said he would do, putting America 1st...of course the rest of the world has their panties in a bunch, trump told them they have to start paying their share versus obama and his apology tour.

Bush’s speaking style? That dude was one step above Biden. They made jokes about his speaking near daily.

back in my drinking days he would have been a good dude to have a beer with, probably not good for more than a couple though.

looks like the type of guy who needed to be carried up the brow after night of drinking :p

Everytime he spoke I felt he had a few breakfast beers in him already. Probably a couple tokes of that stink weed.

I dont doubt it haha.

Also I'm just being a wind up. I actually liked Bush although I know he got a bad rep while President for how he handled 9/11.

I thought he had great potential

My memories of the coke Bush era were way worse than the Dump era, I mean way worse and way dark.

toking with the daughters...oh wait that was obama's daughters.

you have to admit for one brief moment in time 9/11 united the country as much as i have seen in my lifetime---well actually 3rd behind man on moon and kennedy assasination.

I owe the entire outcome of my life to W. Join the Army and go to college they said....Have an adventure and travel the world they said....

gw was a likable guy, but i think cheney was pulling his strings. cheney made a fortune off the iraq invasion-haliburton.
I think so too. I like GW and since he has left the presidency I like him even more.

In the 4's, so I think the 'handover' was at 4.7

We talking about the days when everyone worked 2 part time jobs because nobody wanted to hire full time employees and then Obama rode those inflated numbers thinking he did something great?

I bet, it did prompt that 9/11 thread you had

Maybe?

I only have the chart showing full time jobs on the rise since 2011-ish. YMMV, I can only go off what the charts say

Yeah I don’t know truthfully. I have been contracting since 2004 and haven’t had to look for a job since then. I only go by what I have been told by news sources.

the label on my testosterone says it will not enhance athletic ability.

i guess maybe you can't always believe what they tell ya-eh?

i can say for sure that no hiring was being done 08-10. and starting in 2011 companies started hiring temps to beat paying benefits, so yeah, people were working temp jobs at less than half the pay companies were paying before 2008. this is fact, jack!!!

people who had good paying jobs prior to 08 were working low paying jobs and were on food stamps.

That’s pretty much spot on of what I heard. They mandated benefits and companies just elected to drop full time staff to avoid the massive costs of the benefits.

because obama had everyone on welfare, lol. look at how many were on food stamps then compared to trumps 3rd year.
I find welfare finicky.

I remember posting my view points on a liberal-leaning space some time back and copped huge flak for my stance. Apparently it was too restrictive. I just hate my taxes going on people who sit at home all day and smoke meth. Nope, get a job.

after all the layoffs on 08, they brought in temps to replace higher paid workers at half the pay and NO benefits...international paper was known for this tactic.

a lot of people lost good paying jobs and were forced to find low paying jobs, many had to go on food stamps even while holding full time jobs....so low unemployment numbers can be misleading-eh?

On this we are in full agreement. Welfare is a broken system that has wide spread abuse and fraud and it needs to be reeled in.

yes, but after living in the philippines back in the 80's i see welfare as necessary, it was awful seeing that kind of poverty.

They have welfare systems there and it hasn’t improved the situation. The problem in the Philippines is every election its a contest of which candidate can promise the most free stuff. Then they get in office, jail all their political opponents, and completely rob the system blind. Then the next guy comes along and repeats this cycle on the premise that he/she is going to change Philippine politics in favor of the poor.

There is so much more in play there than what a welfare system can fix. Corruption is peaked and is a way of life.

We are in agreement here. If someone wants to make the debate that people need help.sometimes, fine. But too many people are on it for aay too long.

Yeah, remember when Trump wanted to drop gov't spending and reduce fraud and all the flack he got for that? Because reducing waste isn't good for career politicians.

One thing to keep in mind about the current welfare numbers - Covid has opened the doors for a lot of self-employed and gig workers to collect unemployment - something that was never available under Obama that is for certain. In other words, of these unemployed people today, many of them would have NEVER been counted as unemployed previously, so even comparing Trump's numbees today to Obama, Trump's numbers are inflated.

During the Obama administration I essentially worked multiple jobs in real eatate to make ends meet. There was runaway hidden inflation that nobody talks about - before Obama I could buy a half gallon of ice cream for $4. Under Obama that became 3/4 of a half gallon for $4.25 and then $4.50. So it looks like 4 became $4.50 for the same product (12.5% inflation) but I am getting only 3/4 as much so there was actually 33% hidden inflation BEFORE that 12.5% bump. And this is true of all kinds of essential products - Toilet paper, cleaning products, all kinds of food, etc. And it all happened under Obama.

I also couldn't afford healthcare the entire time he was in office and it was cheaper to just pay the tax penalty. I never saw a doctor the entire time he was in office except in an emergency room once.

At one point at the end of his last term I had to Uber to pay some bills, in addition to working basically 2 full time jobs.

I am typical lower-middle to middle-class, so I am sure I am not the only person in my shoes. I am glad Obama was looking out for me, but I am more glad he is gone.

most of the time i was there marcos was in power, old ferdinand didn't need to promise anything....i hope conditions have improved since i was there i still remember those kids in boats coming across shitriver bridge diving for pesos.

there was a thriving economy in olongapo due to subic naval base but the provinces were dirt poor.

also, in regard to other countries liking Obama and Bush better. I see this as a big downside. The president's job isn't to make other countries happy. As a matter of fact, you tell me who North Korea and China DON'T want to be president and they will be more likely to get my vote. I can tell you both those countries would prefer Biden over Trump.

that is sad.....i didn't think he was very popular but he ran a tight ship.

he was a friend to America, and there was a huge movement to get the bases out.

the wife says food is done, gotta go.

It was that tight ship that most of them look back on now and think wasn’t such a bad idea after all. Some cultures and societies really just need a dictator to get by. This is very true in a lot of developing countries. When left to their own devices they will destroy each other.

The dollar will now get you 50 pesos. When Marcos was President it was between 2-5 pesos per dollar.

Something I definitely agree with you on. I can’t stand to see people get handouts to drink and use drugs all day.

I see it as a top up for people making a genuine attempt, but are still struggling.

I dont like to see it used as a crutch to remain unemployed so they can sit on their ass all day lol

There are people here that will purposefully sandbag themselves because they don’t want to make too much otherwise they will lose govt handouts.

She has a masters in psychology and she is a professor. She is alright, but to me it’s more about content than “style” but I don’t devalue style, being charismatic and able to communicate is very important.

I think you think of Bush’s leadership styles more based the was he was portrayed on your NZ media but that’s a guess.

I used to watch him in China on TV so many times I bugged out my father couldn’t figure out why lol

Fun fact: I got to help take care of George H. W. Bush during the last year of his life when he would vacation at his Maine summer home and end up in my hospital. Turns out it was his favorite hospital, and he would insist on being admitted there.

Basically, I just gave him 2 nebulizer treatments every night (that he didn’t need or benefit from), and then place him on his home CPAP unit before bed under the watchful eye of secret service. He actually wasn’t all that friendly, and we had to call him Mr President. He was very friendly to the attractive female nurses though 🤫

Truth be told, I was a little upset that he didn’t seem to think I was attractive 😟

that man knew where all the skeletons were buried....head of cia before reagans vp and then president then father of president.

old dude was a genuine power broker.

Another fun fact: I got an 87 year old FULL CODE (do everything possible) female on my hands in the ICU today with COVID PNA. She is getting plasma, remdesiver, and dexamethasone, and she is nearly on 100% oxygen. She is also very hard of hearing and obviously has dementia.

How much fun do you think I had trying to communicate with her in isolation while wearing all my PPE? I can’t even remember what she was talking about and she managed to make me completely forget why I even went in there.

I would say that I expect her to be intubated by the time I return tomorrow morning. However, they always seem to save that fun for me to kick off my morning! This is the first person I have had to receive plasma, so we shall see if it changes her course..

Interesting...

I really didn’t/don’t know much about him- other than the fact that he was the former president of course...haha!

I definitely got the impression that he thought his shyt didn’t stink though- even at his advanced age. The nurses told me that his shyt did in fact stink, and quite badly. They never cleaned a few of the stains that were left on the walls as a result- for nostalgic reasons.

Damn thats crazy unforgettable experience....were there men in suits, sunglasses and earpieces around you or waiting outside his door?

Im not a fan of Bush, and Im also the resident tinfoil hat here, LOL but that dude was one powerful serious gangster you were looking after. And for the record, if I was in your shoes Id still take great care of him no matter what I thought of him....just so you know what kinda person I really am.

I don't see style as being important in the a ay people seem to judge it normally. It is like they want to like someone. I want someone who I would ask to negotiate a deal for me if I was dealing with a shark. Everyone knows that one azzhole criminal defense lawyer that they never want to be associated with because he is scum and totally unlikable - until they get in trouble and they REALLY can't risk losing and need the job done.

Who would you rather be negotiating for you in a complex situation? Biden or Trump? I don't trust either, but I know Trump cares more about winning then being friends, and he can form a coherent sentence, even if it pisses you off.

Not that having that and charisma is bad. Reagan did I think. Even Clinton had some bite. Obama is actually the one that relied solely on his charm, he is the one who changed the presidency for the worst. People forget that he was such a lightweight that when he became president, American ships were attacked by pirates for the first time in 100 years. If it weren't for Obama we may not have Trump in office and we certainly wouldn't be choosing between Trump/Biden.

I think that is pretty amazing. Sorry he wasn't very pleasant. That seems a little disappointing, but the Bush family is kind if royalty in this country - like the Kennedys or Clintons. It is definitely not the way America should be to have these families and I am sure some arrogance is hard to avoid.

But yeah, he he was gangster.

Lol on forgetting why you were there. I feel like that when I hear Pelosi speak. I am picturing her in your hospital, demanding to be moved to a new room because there are republican stains on the wall!

I saw this this morning and thought of you guys:

Just thought I would share this tidbit of info. So yesterday I bumped into the special agent in charge of the N.C. SBI district that I live and work in. He told me N.C. has had 29 deadly officer involved shootings state wide this year, up to this past weekend. He said 4 were African American. The rest were white.

Yes, and BLM will argue that those numbers are disproportionate to the population of black people in the US. Since less than 13% of the population is black, they would argue that less than 13% of the shootings (in this case about 3.77) should be black.

But, turns out you can't kill 0.75 of a person. An NC's population is 22% black people....so the disproportionate thing seems to not really be in their favor there I'd say. You'd expect around 6 people to be shot if it was proportionate.

So their next argument is that only accounts for shootings, what about other forms of mistreatment?

You guys are so right! BLM and groups that support them come with all kinds of ways to show that law enforcement is killing more blacks. I’m so sick of it....a little less than 6 years until I can retire!

Well, some people like to choose "Truth over facts."

I wonder if BLM would be standing up for human rights if whites were getting disproportional killed despite the higher population ratio. Or will they stand firm and obsessed with being self centered and clinging to their skin pigment rather than basic standard human values?
