Recommendations for protecting against hair loss?

Some others may have to weigh in on this one. My motto is "bald is beautiful" :) (aka i'm bald)

Peptide called GHK.
Nizoral shampoo.
High protein diet.
Optimized cortisol levels.
I saw this when I looked up Nizoral shampoo

Ketoconazole, also sold under the prescription name Nizoral works to decrease the production of testosterone, which when converted to a substance called DHT (dihydrotestosterone) destroys hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. ‘

are you aware of that / what’ve you heard on that?

Nizoral should not reduce systemic DHT levels in the body.

I use ketoconazole for dermatitis. this is the first I have heard of this.. also DHT and hair loss are NOT synonymous.

further.. ketoconazole is a anti fungal. not sure what you heard is accurate or not but it seems weird to me.. not impossible, just odd.

I don’t appear to have mpb so not looked into it.....

It absolutely helps. It is an anti fungal, I was prescribed it years ago to treat a case of tinea versicolor on my upper torso in college. Later on I realized I had dermatitis as well - boom, Nizoral helps a ton. Also turns out it LOCALLY helps block DHT at the follicles when used on the scalp - yet another great use for Nizoral. Wash the scalp with it eod on cycle.

OP, Finasteride is a drug that will actually limit conversion to DHT systemically. This is a serious approach and it can have serious sides like lack of libido or sexual dysfunction in some men. I have never used it, and to me seems like it’s only a good option for someone using large amounts of testosterone or who isn’t getting what they need from milder approaches.

I recommend checking out Invalid Link Removed

They have lots of good articles, a forum, feedback from member son various methods of what hair loss treatments work and what don't.

My hairline is starting to recede and I've been using a product called Invalid Link Removed. It has lots of great ingredients that inhibit DHT production at the scalp, including saw palmetto, Pygem, Nettle extract, and they also include Invalid Link Removed which has been shown to block DHT at the receptor site in the scalp. There is also biotin in it of course, which is another supplement you should be taking for hair loss (although the studies are scant).

They also make a very good conditioner called Invalid Link Removed. It has an ingredient in it called Invalid Link Removed which has been shown to reduce hair loss and possibility even regrow it. Some people use it on their own, and some people combine it with minoxidil.

Invalid Link Removed

I use both the shampoo and conditioner daily. I combine the shampoo with another shampoo called Invalid Link Removed. It has some Invalid Link Removed in it. This helps force the old skin to peel off and regenerate new skin, helping the follicles stay clean and free of debris. Dr. Lee who used to run minoxidil.com (before they f#$king FDA shut him down) sold a formula very similar to this. It was Nizoral and Salicyclic acid as a shampoo.

You can also look into applying Invalid Link Removed nightly before bed. I see Amazon has a few products with azelaic acid in them, but they're a bit pricey, and I think hairlosstalk sells some cheaper. Here's one I found called Invalid Link Removed. It contains: Purified water, alcohol, glycerin, azelaic acid, black cohosh, pantothenic acid, Japanese green tea extract, aloe, licorice extract, seabuckthorn berry and seed oil, grapefruit seed extract, and niacin.

You can also buy some topical spironolactone from Hairlosstalk. It's a greasy formula and it stinks, so I really don't like using it. Good ole Dr. Lee used to make it into a liquid that was much more easy to apply.

Finally, I take Invalid Link Removed. It has tons of ingredients to help with hair loss including saw palmetto, beta sitosterol, Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica), Pumpkin Seed Oil and lots of other good stuff which will work internally to help slow hair loss.

Btw, if you want to check out Dr. Lee's old page, it's still the wayback machine and has some very good articles.

Beyond that, the only rx drugs that can regrow hair are Invalid Link Removed, which you have to apply daily for the rest of your life as well as Propecia (finasteride). However, I recently came across this thread entitled Invalid Link Removed so take that into consideration before deciding to take that.

I'm going to be starting Invalid Link Removed. They take your blood and put it through a centrifuge and try and get the growth factors in the blood to cause the hair to regrow. It's probably the closest thing to stem cell therapy you can do now.

@StarScream66, thanks for sharing the links to Dr Lee's old site - some good info on there!

I too have been using the PURA D’OR Shampoo with good early results after two months. I'll have to try the conditioner too and some of the other treatments/supplements you recommended. Thanks!

Some good options are below
nizoral shampoo
minoxidil topical
infared therapy comb
tocotrienols blend oral
ru58841 made into a topical and applied to the scalp
possible finasteride/duasteride oral

I've been using the shampoo and purador conditioner for about 5 months and haven't had a haircut since the kungflu struck..lots of compliments

Great article from Derek at MPMD about using RU58841 as one part of his "tripod" of treatments for hair loss.

Just wanted to stop in and say that finasteride/propecia seems to generate a lot of internet horror stories. I’m not saying that these are lies and that it can’t happen but people need to remember that millions (and that’s not an exaggeration) of men are using this to treat hair loss safely. I’ve been using finasteride for over 8 years now. Started at the first sign of fall out and still have a full head of hair. I’ve never had a single issue caused from it besides that my hair stopped falling out. My doc prescribes it in 5mg tablets that I can cut into 1/4s and it costs me a total of $30 for a years supply. I plan on continuing this for well into my life. Take that for what it’s worth.

Is one of the few products that works against MPB, you need to educate yourself, you should spend more time in hairloss forums.

LOL srsly?
I use it for my face not my scalp.. perhaps you shouldn't assume so much. I'm perfectly educated for my needs but thanx.

Yeah I agree with you that Ronin’s response was unnecessary. I will agree tho that ketoconazole is well known in the hair loss communities to combat it. I use it while on cycle.
