Unanswered Does sex reduce your nervous system strength?

I've been looking for this answer for some time but never buckled down and found out for sure. The idea is, or at least the myth is, sex (orgasm technically) releases hormones in the blood that cause men to get very tired and weak, and this, for a period of time maybe half a day, weakens our nervous system strength.

The reason im asking of course is if i know im lifting heavy in the evening and this claim is true, i'll refrain from any fun till after my workout. Anybody have any science they can share on this?
 
One time I had some epic doggy style before a heavy squat session at my legs were jello. Just have the sex and don’t over analyze it!
 
Well, fighters are told not to have sex before a fight... but on a show on tv (don’t remember the name) they did tests on Chris Byrd (former heavyweight champion) before and after a night of sex, the results showed that it was no noticeable difference in performance.

As long as you been sleeping&eating enough it shouldn’t matter.

Oh man, im not as fit as i used to be and im about 255 right now, doggy fucking hammers the quads. I've literally skipped leg day for that week as i got all i needed in half an hour at home !

Yes i don't worry from day to day but within say 2 or 3 hours? Even if it's not a grueling session in bed, im just curious if there's evidence that any temporary weakness ensues. If the Byrd tests were the next day after a busy night, i wouldn't guess that would hurt as getting a night's sleep would "reset" the system, but what about in the few hours following?
 
All my bench PRs are started with an early morning cream pie. So I’m gonna day no.
See i've heard that too which is why i couldn't just settle on one or the other. I could theorize reasons for both if i chase my tail enough. On one hand, you could look at it like a CNS slap in the face, like sniffing amonia before a lift, but it's hard to know for sure without looking at the chemistry.

Now i could try to "test" it myself but there's so many other factors that go along with strength changes from day to day and hour to hour, sometimes it's hard to know what's causing what.
 
I m a 52 year old powerlifter. Test it out bro... You will much weaker if u have sex the day or days before heavy lifting. I have sex once a week after squats and i do deads three days later.

Hmmmmm, but if I had sex once a week I would be dead in 3 days.
 
I sometimes train with my missus and use sex to time my rest periods, sixty seconds on the dot. None of this stopwatch **** needed 😜

60 seconds? I've got to get ahold of those stamina trainers :ROFLMAO: Kidding aside i've never understood why some guys time their rest, i've always just gone by my breathing. We know when our body has replenished most of the ATP bc our aerobic system will slow.

I've always went off instinct which was how out of breath i was but it wasn't till i learned about the ATP pathways that i realized there was science behind it.

Yeah to be honest I don’t often time a rest period, was going for the comical value....

however I have used it in training blocks (on cycle) to chart progression. I,e bench 4 sets of 8 reps at 225 with 2 mins rest inbetween. Next week try 4x8 at 230 with 2’mins and so on. Without timing your rest period you could assess strength increases but if simply resting longer each week it wouldn’t confirm a work capacity increase. I do it rarely but can be useful occasionally imo

Gotcha. Yea i think the only safe way to be accurate is to just make sure you are always well rested between sets, otherwise it would skew the numbers like you say. I should also mention, maybe a more accurate way to put it is i go off my heart rate, although i don't time my pulse or anything.

You can just feel when your heart slows you know, you can tell when your body slows down and breathing is one symptom of that. When the heart slows back close to normal, it's saying our system has recovered relatively speaking. I suppose after doing this for years one would get good at being consistent in their timing if they are testing strength.

It's funny bc a few years ago i was thinking about rest periods and realized i don't ever time anything, so i was like how the hell do i know. I just never thought about it, so i thought about it and realized i just go off the feeling of my heart rate and breathing. But i had been lifting on and off for over 20 years at that point and never even thought about it.
 
You’re way overthinking this. Just get in the gym and hit your workout full force. Eat, sleep, skeet, repeat....
If anything I’d consider sex a great warmup. You could always eat something after and before you hit the gym. If sex affects your lifts you need to get stronger
 
I heard some people watch porn before working out (no happy ending). Supposedly the angst gives an elevated test boost.
 
I'm 42, on TRT and nut 3-4x a day. Doesn't effect training unless I do it immediately prior to going to the gym.
