Ive worked within a supermarket for the last 6 months. I like my work itself but i cannot stand the department manager. Shes a 19 year old girl. Not anywhere near qualified and has zero organising skills. She's only employed as her mum is an area manager for this company (Its a contracted in company for the supermarket so its seperate)

Im a very good worker. Worked every shift thier is and i know im good at what i do. This young lassie just never see's the good in some people. Doesn't matter how much effort you put in. Its never thanked. Shes just a miserable lassie for her age. Everybody says the same thing about her. Over the 2 year contract she has had she has lost 20 staff. No one seems to stick it. All the other staff are notorious for last minute sick notes and days off. I've been picking up this slack for the 6 month. She is meant to start at 6am in the morning alongside myself and others but i haven't ever seen her in before 7am. I noticed in a time sheet she was marking down from 6am. Shes meant to work 6am - 12am. Shes always away and out the door for 10am. Which doesn't bother me as its a break from her constant nags and moans. She is constantly taking days off (Usually hungover from a previous night). As her mum is the area manager she seems to just get away with this. Its a complete joke.

I was gonna just personally snap one day and setting things straight. I have snapped at her previous as her attitude is not acceptable. Speaks down to you as if your nothing. Is this a wise idea? She knows she needs me as i am 5 mins away from the store but also i work very well. I do alot of shifts.

Another part of the job thats getting me is. Its split shifts. 6-10 am then 6pm - 10pm.. Everyday. So im fitting in around 5 hours sleep by the time im finally getting to bed. Im exhausted feeling constantly. Lack of sleep plays havoc on your mind. She never works a late shift. Ive never once see her do one.

Over the last month the amount of problems has been unbelievable. 95% of it stems from her having no clue on how to manage anything. Over the last week i have had 4 seperate messages asking me to work a day time shift but these messages arrive as little as 30 mins before a shift starts. Must think we don't have life's outside of work eh? She refuses to do them and with so many staff leaving shes down to less than half a team.

Im on the look out for another job right now.. The supermarket itself has asked to employ me the next stage of employing people. They would offer me similar hours plus its more per hour pay. This is the biggest reason i am holding on.

I can't take working alongside her anymore. I am gonna lose it one day. She knows she needs me though. I am her most reliable worker. I have never had a single day off plus i am good at my actual job but she remains just a very bitter person.

Any advice folks? Just starting to really get p*ssed off with it

Have you had a meeting with her to explain your issues? Do that and if things don't change, then you need to either escalate the situation to whoever else there is offering you this higher paid position or quit. Other than that, we're only getting one side of the story, so it's hard to give advice past that.

If you haven't spoken to her yet about this and set out goals and expectations, you need to. When talking with her, don't focus on what she does or doesn't do. Be clear on what you want and what problems you currently have with the job.

Agreed that your first step should be to discuss your issues with her. I run an operation and typically won’t even entertain a conversation about this sorta thing if people haven’t tried to address their issues directly.
