The Unofficial Ice Cream thread

Here is an inside look of the new flavor Marshmallow moon
as noted the graham is almost totally missing:

B&J always skimps on dual swirls

in their defense, the top 1/4" is not a good judgement of what the whole pint might have... I don't expect much more, but thats an unfair picture to judge from

Guy who had it said the taste was very underwhelming to boot, but then again not everyone eats a whole pint in a sitting.
if you order online its $25.

Graeter's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip:
Grade: A-
Invalid Link Removed

"This is our signature flavor, made with black raspberries from Oregon’s Willamette Valley and our gourmet bittersweet chocolate chips". One other note about the Black Raspberry flavor is this is Graeter's All-Time Best-Seller, an absolute "must-try"

Invalid Link Removed

The black raspberry flavor is so pure and delicious its hard to put down after taking your first bite. The fresh berries used from Oregon truly give it that unique taste that leaves you coming back for more. Another key aspect to Graeter's is the density of their ice cream

Invalid Link Removed

Graeter's signature bittersweet chocolate chips are truly a remarkable mix-in. Simple on paper yet executed to perfect when it comes to taste. These massive shards of chocolate are stacked upon each other when you first dig in, till your very last spoonful. Half way through my experience I struck a goldmine and hit a piece that stretched across the pint

Invalid Link Removed sorry too hungry but chicken and waffles ice cream at lake effect in Lockport, NY. vanilla ice cream chicken stock infused caramel not overpowering and lots of waffle cone peices added. Delicious combination

^^^ Get their pumpkin gingersnap if it is still available. Paula's Glazed Donut is also a killer flavor from Lake effect in collab with Paula's donuts
Absolutely killer. You must live next to bloodnthunder and mkretz

Will surely do thanks for the suggestions. They did have pumpkin gingersnap still so will be stopping again this week.

Their couch potato let me down. Almost go no chocolate covered potato chips in my pint

Salty Caramel Twist was a good one too:

Yea couch potato was a hit or miss for me overall happy with creations they come out with. Haven't came across the caramel twist. Not sure if your into unique flavors or have tried it yet but their black sesame ice cream at Lake Effect has a robust flavor of sesame oil but creamy and sweet at same time.

I live no where close to you guys in buffalo its over a 2+ hour drive for me to get to Lake Effect since its north of the city.
Usually when I come into town its all about Paula Donuts/Donut Kraze and hitting Allen Burger Venture (absolutely amazing burgers). The burger at Little Man's Brewery is also Fantastic if you have never been there.

I would suggest heading into your local wegmans for their Banana Peel N, S'mores, and Nutter Batter.. All very overlooked pints that are a great scoop and cheap. But Lake Effect is solid because its local and a mom and pop.

I would also suggest Graeter's in your wegmans for Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip (Flavor I reviewed), Cheesecrown, Cookies & Cream, and Buckeye

Love Paula's donuts they are huge and quality is fantastic at a reasonable price. Apple fritters filled with apple pie filling are amazing as well one of my favorites. Think it time for lake effect to start shipping out pints online or have more available flavors in supermarkets. Have not had those burger places but from those photos those are right up my alley. If you do ever make it up here again, place called Rock burger in Niagara falls, so far best burgers ive had to date, from stuffed Reese's peanut butter cups and bacon to cheesecake filled burgers. Invalid Link Removed this one is Oreo cream cheese filled burger with bacon

If you google best burger in buffalo Allen Burger Venture is one of the top ones that shows up on every page.
All organic and grass fed beef. Easily one of the best I have ever had. Ill have to give that other place a shot, but I usually am right around the Galleria mall, so that is a bit of a drive when I venture up to Buffalo.

They also have a Peanut butter burger (if that is your thing)

Try out those Wegmans/Graeter's pints and let me know what you think. I think you will greatly enjoy them.

I will keep you posted as I check out those burger joints ( I do enjoy peanut butter on my burger). Same goes for graeters and Wegman's ice cream. Greatly appreciate all the recommendations. Glad there are people who appreciate food just as much as I do.

i had a few flavors when i was out in colorado, and they were all lack luster. I cannot get them in the north east, more of a down south or out west brand.

Buttermilk fat is a little low, and the density is light compared to some of the higher end companies. They are mediocre for a store bought ice cream IMO. Graeter's (if you can get it) would be better, some of the B&J ( Cinnamon Buns, Chubby Hubby, One Sweet World, PB World, Milk & Cookies) would be better options. Even some talenti flavors (Sea Salt Caramel, Pumpkin Pie, Choc PB Cup, Fudge Brownie, Caramel Apple Pie, hazelnut chocolate chip, PB Fudge) are worth scooping.

Anyone here eat Blue Bell? New Christmas cookie is awesome, given my palate is not as refined as most here probably.

yeah, some of the newer flavors I've seen over the last year or so have been great... cookie two-step was awesome (and LOADED with cookies), bride's cake was great as well... I wish more of the special flavors came in pints vs just tubs in my stores... def a few (including that xmas cookie) that I wanna try, just dont want a gallon of

Taking notes, In MI Saturday and hoping to grab a haul of pints. Supposed to snow here Friday, that means bulking season right?

Not that I’ve seen before but I’ll look into it.

I’d be hitting Walmart/Meijers

They are a mom and pop brand that is from Michigan. The make a macinack island fudge flavor (killer), and one of the best cookies and cream (ultimate Oreo) .. If you like coffee their espresso oreo is just as dynamite.

One sweet world, Chubby Hubby Cinnamon Buns, Milk & Cookies (B&J),
PB World (Target)

Graeter's Buckeye, CnC, Black raspberry, Cheesecrown (They are in some walmarts)
PB Fudge, SSC, Caramel Apple, Fudge Brownie, Choc PB Cup (Talenti)
Blue Bell made a cookie butter flavor but the reviews have been pretty weak, so take that with a gain of salt.

What brands do you have access to?
Can you get Chocolate Shoppe? They originate around there

CS flavors really arent in many stores... more served in special places like mini-golf courses, arcades, movies, etc... not a big "store" pint type brand

... Exactly why i said this.

If he can find them in a local shop its worth the snag. Quality is pretty good and above par from a normal grocery pint. Plus its hard to get some good mom and pop ice cream if he can find it local. I don't know how far it would be from him and the walmart he may be going to.

I know I’m going heavy on Graeters, and I want to see what my best Gelato options are.

Gelato available to me locally is terrible. Most stores only carry Chapmans, and I’ve had all the Haagen Dasz enough times to be bored of them

Halo Top is stocked there too so I am grabbing 1 of each I haven’t had yet

I just picked up 4 pints of Graeter's today :)

if you like super sweet, grab 2 of the pancakes and waffles halo. Most of the newer flavors are solid, only ones i didn't love were the green tea (just not my bag, but the mochi balls were fun) and sherbet (just a boring flavor and never high cal to begin with). Caramel Machiatto was just ok, not especially strong flavor.

If they have the pumpkin pie, def worth a pickup too.

So fing good

Lake effect is amazing...their cookies and cream and butterbeer were surprisingly good too....loved thenlm...I forgot about chicken and waffles...probably my 2nd favorite flavor from them behind pumpkin with blueberry pie 3rd...That's a must too.

Rock burger is growing in popularity quickly. I've heard nothing bit great things. Niagara falls is just far.

Second the butter beer. Call me crazy but to go to either lake effect or rock burger I'm a good 1.5 hours away I live in the country past Springville NY but worth every trip I make but completely understand. ( Not so bad considering I drive an hour to work and hour back 5 days out of week)

wow that's a really interesting direction for them to go... they really dont have anyhting even close to that. very interested to try this

They have had it in scoop shops before multiple times they just put it into pints

Won’t be in grocery stores just scoop shop and online purchase for the pints

I was taking down the hurricane shutters for the creator/owner of friendly's ice cream on Jupiter Island. Per capita its one of the richest places in the country. Anyhow this guy is 98 years old and he and his brother started the business in 1936. They borrowed 500$ and he was the pr guy and his 102 year old brother was the business mind. Both are still kicking at that age! The moral of the story- eat ice cream its good for the soul and long life

I wanted to post this sooner as these pics were taken a couple weeks ago but the app woyldnt let me upload pics.Invalid Link RemovedInvalid Link RemovedInvalid Link Removed

The First Order ice cream flavor : To showcase the monolithic, fierce power of The First Order, salted dark chocolate ice cream represents relentless villainy, while cocoa powder, bittersweet chocolate and a dash of powerful espresso reinforce the dark side.

The Resistance ice cream flavor : A celebration of the spirit and determination of the Resistance fighters who stand against the First Order, The Resistance is a brown sugar and vanilla bean ice cream with an assortment of mix-ins: fiery red velvet ooey gooey butter cake to represent tenacity, hard-edged toffee pieces to exhibit ferocity, and hopeful marshmallows.

The Force ice cream flavor : Inspired by the harmony and peaceful nature of the Jedi, The Force illustrates the precarious balance between the dark and light side with sweet cream ice cream, swirled with rich chocolate fudge, and set against a galaxy of white and dark chocolate pearls.

Haagen Dazs Peanut Butter Salted Fudge:
Grade: B+
Invalid Link Removed

"Decadent swirls of salted fudge and the crunch of chocolate covered peanuts blend with smooth peanut butter ice cream"

Invalid Link Removed

When you dig into this peanut butter ice cream the labeling of smooth is on point. The best part is this is not a peanut butter that lacks the saltiness. The salt helps enhance the flavor and really make the smooth peanut butter pop

Invalid Link Removed

The swirls of salted fudge are present on the base, and all the way throughout the entire pint. The salted fudge has the thick richness of chocolate and the perfect salty compliment to get it to hit your taste buds even harder. It is not as strong as Salt & Straw Almond Brittle with salted ganache or Little G's Peanut Butter Brittle & Salted Fudge, but has enough salt to really enhance the experience.

Now that's commitment
