Kratom withdrawal

I didn't want to believe it, but it is real. So I admittedly lost track and have been taking it almost every day for the last month because I was enjoying the feeling so much and assumed that as I was still feeling all the goodness, primarily from switching strains, I must not have any issue with it. Then I started realizing that I was craving it during the day and couldn't wait to get off work to take some and feel that euphoria. Then subtle things have been happening, like forgetting things I normally wouldn't, getting agitated at really stupid things, and feeling fatigued throughout the day. I started researching and found that this is classic withdrawal feelings when it wears off. So decided last Thursday to take my last dose and it has been pretty horrible. Friday and Saturday were bad with sweating, irritability, and a feeling of panic like I wasn't ever going to feel normal again. This would go in waves and then I would feel depression and start sweating profusely. Last night I tried to sleep and was getting random twitches that kept waking me up and then I woke up in a daze with a bad headache.

This morning I went on a run and am powering through with some l-tyrosine and ashwagandha, which is really taking the edge off. But in the back, there is a feeling of dread that I am not letting get to me.

Anyway, thought I would share as I find this to be an incredible supplement/hreb, but it needs to be respected. I did not respect it and am paying the price.

Anything used too much can become a bad thing.

Hope all is well. It gets better in time.

Try high doses of niacin, I had a bad addiction to Coke and tranq's, which transitioned to benzodiazepines and in the end I used niacin and 5-HTP the get me through the first couple of months, worked wonders for me! This was for the depression and fatigue side of things by the way, I took 2g niacin and 100-200mg 5HTP

I noticed after a couple weeks of high daily use I got fairly depressed for a few days. It also happened the same time as a upsetting event in my life which didn't help.

Give it a few days, it should go away. I get what you're saying though. I was able to sleep and didn't get any sweating, but I genuinely just felt sad all day and like my life was pathetic. It's a very weird feeling and it sucked.

It's insane how certain substances or lack of certain substances, change the entire way you think and feel.

But remember peeps, in time it'll get better.

I take it every day. Every couple of months I take a weekend off which basically resets my tolerance.

First day is the worst. Ashwaganda is good, for some reason it helps kratom withdrawal + reset. Something with the opioid receptor.

Doing a high rep/cardio session helps the nerves/restless leg, as well as Phenibut or a couple of beers/drinks at night (I rarely drink so this is a night I usually get pretty toasty).

I take about 20g a day, sometimes more. Withdrawal, compared to everything else, including low dose SSRI, has been incredibly short. Pretty amazing actually.

Mentally may be a different story. Don't mistake withdrawal for craving. Anytime you take something out of your life that you enjoyed, it's going to suck mentally

The craving part is not a concern, I can fight that. It is the actual effects I can't control, and as someone who has never experienced a withdrawal or even slight addiction, I think this is hitting me harder because I've never dealt with it.

Sure appreciate all the encouragement, it does help.

Yep. I try to tell people. I've been an opiate addict for years, most recently had a bad run with fentanyl - kratom's withdrawals (it being what I'm on nowadays, since probation's caught up with me) are at this point worse than what I got from oxy back in my early days.

Good luck. You might try a quick loperamide taper. Look it up.

If this is your first run-in with opioid dependence and you're taking it this badly, I don't think I even need to tell you to stay the f*ck away from them from now on.

You think you feel like you're dying now... give it a couple more years, couple dozen more cold turkeys. It gets so, so much worse, bro. My first withdrawals from oxy years ago were like a minor cold compared to what I get now.

Kratom withdrawal is absolutely nothing compared to hydrocodone or oxy. Kratom withdrawal is an inconvenience for a few days, and then you're fine.

Like anything if you use everyday the body gets used to it and it becomes the norm. Change that and the body reacts. Be mindful of this in the future.

I've withdrawn from a several-points-a-day fentanyl habit in county jail, bud, I know what this **** feels like.

And that is not true at all when you've been addicted to opiates for most of a decade. I've done it all, bud, and if I decided to quit kratom right now, at more than an ounce a day, I would be a f*cking wreck.

This is all the type of sh*t that varies from person to person, but the thing is, OP is already having a pretty bad time - and considering he's only been on kratom for a month, that's a good indication he's extremely susceptible to physical addiction and probably needs to stay away from opioids altogether.

It's odd, I noticed depression after 2-3 weeks of Kratom, but not 4 weeks of Percocets after surgery.

It would be embarrassing to state how much experience I have with recreational use of stimulants and psychedelics over the last 25 years, but never had interest in opiates. I've dabbled, but never cared for them. Kratom is different. I absolutely love it. Just glad to hear it doesn't last long. Doubled up on ksm-66 on my third dose today and it is really helping.

He hasn't been addicted to opiates for most of a decade, and not everyone who takes kratom will have. Did you ever think your withdrawal effects were from your past addictions?

My buddy withdrew from methadone in county jail, after being on for 3-4 years of a pretty high dose. This was after a fentanyl/100mg+ hydrocodone a day habit. (The Dr. that prescribed them had his license revoked). He laughs about his kratom 'withdrawal' now. Pure addict, but nicest dude in the world, so if he's just on kratom then he's doing pretty good.

I was on 50mg hydrocone a day for 3-4 months after a serious SLAP tear. I was going to school full-time and working during the withdrawal. That sucked.

I'm addicted to Kratom, I don't really mind admitting that. It helped me switch careers to a full blown software engineer in under a year. My withdrawals are still only a weekend long, and I only take a weekend every 2-3 months, going through about a kg every month. Been taking it daily for almost 2 years now. The most effective anti-anxiety I've ever taken and that includes every benzo and barbiturate under the sun.

It sure beats the withdrawal from xanax or clonazepam which Doctors hand out like candy for "panic attacks" now.

As long as he sticks to kratom, he'll be fine. If you're taking it daily or near daily you're going to have some withdrawals, period. Nothing's free. Any withdrawal can basically be avoided by not taking it every day. Depends on how much it helps and if a few days of nerves, anxiety, etc. are worth it.

Everyone's going to experience it differently, but for people with little to no past history of opiate abuse, the withdrawal isn't that bad. The withdrawals that tend to be worse are guys that have been addicted to some serious ish in the past.

Thanks for sharing your experience and giving everyone a heads up. Things like kratom can be amazing, but they certainly need to be treated with the respect, and caution, they deserve; with great power comes great responsibility or something. I'm glad to see that the tyrosine and awshagandha are helping. Have you considered adding rhodiola to this stack? There's some research, not sure if it's just animals ATM, showing it can help with physical withdrawl symptoms, as well as anxiety from some things. NAC and D-Serine may also help a bit. Of course, I don't recall if any of these were actually for opioids, I think it was mostly nicotine/cocaine/marijuana/etc, but it may be worth a try.

Edit: Have you been taking agmatine with your kratom? It seems like a good idea, just to play it safe, as it may help with dependence/addiction/etc.

I don't, which is silly because I have it around. I do plan to come back to Kratom after a break and will be coming to it with a very different approach. Agmatine may be part of it.

Live and learn man. I'd definitely take it with it, especially if you have it already. I can certainly see problems being a definite possibility if someone decides to use kratom almost daily, even if they don't really see it as a "big deal" at first, and can take time off with "no problems" after a few days, but after a few weeks or months, it may be a different story. I personally don't use kratom more than around 2-3 times per week, if that, usually about 1-2 times a week, if that, and not more than 2 days in a row. I haven't had any problems with it, but I don't really feel like pushing my luck or seeing just how much it'd take to start having problems.

Black seed oil *can* benefit. If your withdrawal isn't horrible and BSO cant be found local then I wouldn't worry about it. But, it can ease symptoms.

Yeah pretty much. Kratom's going to affect everyone differently. For instance, reds/yellows do absolutely nothing for me. It's weird. I was really just giving my input as someone on the far-end of the scale.

Agmatine dosing *with* kratom can be tricky. For some, like me, it can dampen some of the effects. I'm not really sure the exact MOA but it also seems to help tolerance/dependence on kratom's opioid agonist actions. So if you experience that with your dosing, just be aware it's been known to happen. In my case, dosing agmatine about an hour or two after my kratom doses (about 3x a day), seemed to exhibit all the same benefits.

So I had an okay sleep last night, woke up fairly groggy, but not with pending dread of the day. I'd question if the use of Kratom raises cortisol levels because that morning anxiety is similar.

This morning I am going to add noopept to see if that combats the fog I have been walking around in. Crossing fingers it is a better day.

Look into kratom and the effects of the thyroid. You'd be surprised at the havoc this stuff wreaks internally when using on a regular basis.

I've been taking kratom daily for around 2 months. As already mentioned, agmatine helps a lot with the cravings. I was able to reduce my number of doses from 3-4 times per day to twice each day with agmatine.

However, it didn't help much with the physical withdrawal effects between doses. What has helped significantly is kava. I've tried kava in the past but it was always extracts like Gaia and Natrol. I ordered the micronized powdered whole root from a great vendor online (highly recommended on other forums) and it helps a ton with those withdrawal effects. I don't notice them at all.

Also, the effects from this kava is very different than the extracts sold at health stores. Much better boost in mood and very calming. On the days I use it to replace one or both of my kratom doses (versus just taking it in addition to it), I don't have any cravings or withdrawal effects.

I've been interested in Kava for some time now, but never actually tried it out. I know it doesn't cause physical dependence but I could mentally get dependent on it if I enjoy it enough lol

To me, it doesn't feel like something that would cause mental dependence based on enjoying it too much. I mentioned a mood boost from it but it's nothing like kratom. It's more like a complete reduction in anxiety/stress and the physical/mental tole associated with all that stress. With all that being removed, my mood is just naturally better. What's really nice, and something I didn't know before, is that there are various kava types with some being more heady (or mood improving and almost energizing) and others being heavy (more sedating and calming). So, you could really use various types based on the results your wanting (daytime versus nighttime kava).

Honestly, the only withdrawals I had was leg and lower back sweats when I slept. Occasionally I'd have a urge/craving to take kratom but it subsided once I occupied myself with something.

I took large amounts of Kratum back in the day.
Honestly I think niacin, water, and food will help. Your body is going through the withdrawals but so is your brain. You'll need a stimulate to atleast let the edge off. Idk I'm not a doctor but that's what I used to do.

Lol considering the majority of the few "reported" cases didn't know the difference between hypo and hyper I don't know if a handful of users that don't understand correlation isn't causation is any kind of definitive statement for "kratom wreaking havoc". A few reports were women that attributed early menopause to kratom, even though it's fairly common naturally, with 3 million new cases each year.

There are millions of Kratom users. I will say there is a lack of clinical research so if you start noticing weird stuff then you should probably get checked out. Just like everything else.

Yep, it started out innocent enough with 2-3 doses a week at 5-6g and then I found myself craving the feeling and one strain would end up not working after a few days so I would switch it up. Always staying around 5-7 grams.

I got a peer to cover some meetings for me and went to 3 hours of krav maga this afternoon and I feel a lot better. I sweated a couple pounds off and I think all the physical exertion really helped me out here. Hoping I have a good sleep, but I am way better than I was on Friday and Saturday.

Aaaand I am back!

I started feeling clarity late yesterday and my mood was elevated to what I normally expect. Had a crappy night sleep due to my daughters having some stomach bug going around so we were up a lot, but woke up this morning feeling refreshed and in a really normal mood. Brain fog has lifted and I can actually say that it is the first normal morning in some time.

This was a good lesson for me and one I have learned from. I'm not invincible like I believed when it comes to a slight addiction to something and subject to withdrawal symptoms like anyone else.

Appreciate the supportive words and advice in here. I know this was relatively minor compared to what some may experience, but was a big deal to me.

Good to hear man.

I got absolutely slammed for stating Kratoms addictive capabilities around the time the ban was proposed and even sent some very interesting PMs, but I stand by my comments on it and having more people share their stories (good and bad) will help people make a more informed choice.

As always, thanks for sharing :)

^^^ This. There's too much absolute, puritanical devotion to this plant. It can absolutely be a godsend and helpful to people for a variety of reasons, but it is still an opioid and addictive, with certain possible downsides. I'm currently a user and only want to make sure everyone has the whole picture on what kratom is.
