Any AM'rs only have one kidney?

Do you both plan on losing a kidney? I'm interested to see responses though, I've never thought about it before.

It may be, all is well personally tho - thank you.

I'm working towards becoming a living donor for a friend who's kidneys are shot and spends too much time on dialysis for a younger dude.

I don't care if I'm limited to select or no supps if this happens, was just wondering if anyone here can relate. I've got a list I'll be running by a doctor for sure!

My best friend gave his kidney to his father about a year ago now. He doesn't use many supps outside of bcaas and a pre though. I know his doctor restricts his protein intake but we all know the usual recommendation on protein intake is generally recommended well below what is tolerable, unfortunately i doubt there are many studies on patients who are s/p nephrectomy to really determine what the upper limits of protein intake would do to someone with only 1 kidney.

I do know that it took him about 7 months to finally feel like he was good to go in the gym again.

My uncle had been on one donor kidney for 20 years (he's on his 2nd now) He's on immunosuppressants which kept his body from rejecting the first kidney but ofcourse come their own side effects. Eventually he had to seek another donor. I'm unsure of the interactions with other drugs. He does suffer from bloat as a result of his meds and has to watch his alcohol intake. It's still better than being on dialysis all the time. When you give up a kidney (as a donor) you are in a different boat than the recipient ofcourse.

20 years on a donor kidney is amazing!! My buddy is 30 and while he'll likely need another one maybe 10... hopefully 15+ years down the road, he can get back to living right now while he's young. Thanks for sharing dude!
