Jswain's training log for powerlifting

I'd stick to trust brands, idk them

Definitely the smart move. Just not sure what to do really. I dont know how casted or the life on the different KLAs, titaniums, Max RPMs, or THPs on Anderson. They also have SBD wraps but theyre 48$ and fuk dat. I may just pick up a pair that sounds decent and return them if i dont like them. The hand me down pair my old boss gave me were Invalid Link Removed
I liked the support they gave so i may just snag another pair of them and take a gamble on the life of the velcro. I dont know how long he used them before he gave them to me, but I had them for about 10 months. Either way, it's likely theyll last me over a year so thats a good buy regardless.

Hyde, the rehband warm pants are fuggin great. My SIs and hips felt phenomenal the whole time. Cant wait to squat in them later this week.

Glad you enjoyed them as much as I do. They messed up my lockout because they kept snagging the bar on deads this weekend so I won't be pulling in them again, but they're awesome in general.

I love my Iron Rebel Raptors. Their Outlaws would be the way to go if you want even more cast, but they bite some.

Damn i just ordered those thps for 16$ off liftinglarge yesterday...they only had the 19.5" in stock (wanted 24-30") so maybe ill check out those raptors/outlaws and consider returning the thps.

Titans Velcro is meh. I have the titaniums in the past, nothing special I'd just the red yellow if going with them that dan green uses, I know several people that love those. Idk the name.

Damn it. Oh well, i think for 16$ ill just test them out and if they dont work out ill just buy the yellow and reds (titan signature series) or the iron rebels.

You found them lol, I almost got the iron rebels but the outlaws looked so heavy in the review I saw on YouTube, I didn't want them that stiff

They are. A lot of guys bench over 500 in the Raptors without issue; Brandon Allen did 567 this weekend. And they are comfy AF but can get tight as I need without spending 10 years on a billion revolutions

Squats were feeling slow today. Meh, deload next week.

I finished my deload up today. Squished my upper accessory and deadlift deload into one long session so I can begin next meso on Sunday. I realize that's not getting the max fatigue dissipation but if I compete March 25th I'm already going to have to tweak my peak slightly.

USPA Open Tri-State Borderwars in the middle of Indiana - 180 lifters on 3 platforms with all gear classes. Wanna join? Could split a hotel even.

Im only taking 7 days for my deload too. I've been thinking that may just skip the rep bench day and hit my last dead session sunday then start my deload monday through sunday. Then start up again the following monday. Or i could just combine the rep bench and deadlift...I really dont think that would be bad.

Damn man....i have been getting the itch. Hmm...its in Huntington which is like 1hr 45m southeast from my house. I'm going on "vacation" to Cali in early March (i have a PA intvw and am staying out there for a day or two after) so i dont know if it'd be ideal to do that 2 weeks out from the meet. But, right now, im kinda feeling it.

Fukkk. Just looking at the men's classification chart found on the online form has my mind racing wanting to hit some #s lol.

Edit: and, btw, does the accessory work stay the same during the deload? I know the main work is 50%x3x5 but i cant seem to find where he says what to do for the assistance stuff.

Looks like the entry deadline is 3/11, id imagine the meet may fill up before that though. I guess i need to decide if im ready to push my squat again. Either that or i could just settle on a ~500 second and if nothing more is there just take that and focus on bench and dead. I dont think my lower back/hip is ready to push both squat/ and deads again.

You doing IPa in Newtown pa?

Nah. Haven't even looked into any PL meets in ages until tonight. I did however look at some strongman comps recently out of curiosity.

I kept all my intensity and volume the same except the big 3 comp explicitly. I feel quite recovered.

This program basically already has the peak set so 2 weeks out shouldn't matter at all- all the heavy stuff will be done already.

No same day weighins, so I have to get a hotel room if you'd wanna stay there instead of driving there twice. Lmk, because I'm not signing til I'm sure I know someone else competing.

Also, I'm not pushing my squat either atm.

Fuk it. Lets do it brother. Is it bad that the thing im looking forward to the most is the refeed the day of way-ins? Whats your plan for the squat then? Just take what's there that day?

Yeah buddy! It will be good to have an eating and lifting partner. I took 405 beltless super easy the other day as an overwarmup, so I'm confident I can just show up and squat 451-501 peaked.

You going 242? I was gonna do 220 but I could join you perhaps so we could lift together instead of risk different flights.

Yah...probably what im going to do as well but i may just try to pull a 520-530ish out of my ass on my 3rd if all feels well on that day. Obviously that all depends on what # i end up hitting during that first microcycle of the peak. Squatted 505 during 5/3/1 so it may be there even though i havent built up much fatigue with the lift in a month or two.

I guess i also need to decide whether im gonna pull conventional or switch to sumo for a mesocycle and peaking mesocycle.

And LOL...yah bro, 242 for sure. Id rather shoot myself than cut to 220. I dont plan on dropping to anything below 230 until im like 75-80 haha.

I'm going to go for the biggest squat I believe I can hit. I hit 465 low bar for a pretty easy single several months ago, definitely had another attempt in me, so we'll see what the peak indicates. If I go 242 I won't have to cut, which would be great. Then we're guaranteed to be in the same flight.

Let me know as soon as you're positive you're in. I'll sign up then. I really don't want to sign up and then find out everyone bailed.

Yah i weighed 244 yesterday after I lifted so as long as I dont go full on fat the next 2 months it should be the usual cut carbs for 2-3 days and cut water/sodium the day before with some mild diuretics and i should be more than fine.

Let me know as soon as you're positive you're in. I'll sign up then. I really don't want to sign up and then find out everyone bailed.

Alright, i'll have to see what my March schedule looks like. I have to take off the second weekend and the doc i work with is taking off the first week so I wouldn't be entirely shocked if i got scheduled the last two weekends. I could have someone covered for me that Saturday most likely but i dont know about the Friday if i were to get scheduled that day.

Went in to bench early today while the crew trained yoke and ME reverse band squat and Axle press. I resisted doing anything off program besides some farmers holds but it was good to be around stronger guys.

Anyway this guy Cody told me he's doing the meet as well. He's basically your height and weight. And the other 2 guys that should be going will be 242 likely as well so it looks like it's about time for me to start eating! I'm not gonna be the only twerp in 220

Yah man i know that feeling from being at jakked. Its hard af to keep yourself from doing fun looking shet when the whole team is doing it.

And cool that'll be fun as hell if we all are able to go. So much foe that cut you've been on

I know, I've already bounced back to 225, but at least I'm better than ever at this weight. I'm hoping I can partition nutrients a tad better being a bit leaner, and I don't plan on a big surplus and getting sloppy. I did that last year when I pushed up to 245. It helped lay a good foundation, but woof.

The rest of the week's schedule may wind up being fckd. Working 7p-7a tonight then tomorrow have to get a bunch of **** together for my interview i have Friday 2 hours NNW of Philly. Will be driving most of the day Thursday - thinking about trying to look up gyms along the route to stop at and squat but I haven't gotten to that yet.

Nice work lately dude. Your going to PA school right? Or are you done? Either way good luck with the interview.

Have you updated the Strongur app lately? I just did today and I now hate it. They made it too complicated with the exercises and stuff..

I'm not positive but I think Warhouse gym may but up in that sort of area. Could be work looking. It's rob and Dana baileys

Still applying/interviewing...the whole grad school process has taken me way longer than anticipated. Really hoping it works out this go around. Thanks bro.

I updated a couple 2-3 weeks back and it made me sign in as a new user and totally deleted all my past workout history i had accrued over the last 2-3 years. It has also been force closing every time I try to open it since then so I haven't been using it at all. Maybe ill see if theres a new update, but i dont even know if i want to use it anymore after it deleted all my stuff.

Eh I looked it up last night at work and it's an hour and a half in the wrong direction. I need more NW. I appreciate the recommendation though brotha, would have been cool to train there.

It'll all work out in the end man!

That sucks that all the history is gone.. they had a new update out on the 11th. I shouldn't have updated it lol. I'll see if I can get used to it, logging takes literally twice as long though.

I never (rarely) update my stuff unless there is a real problem with the app for this exact reason lol. It said there were bug fixes the last time I updated and I would have occasional issues with it force closing so thats why I updated the last time, well now I cant even open the app and all my stuff is gone! Smh. Maybe the developer will revert back.

Interview today went well I believe. I was one of 40 that got an interview out of 1500 which is an accomplishment in it's own right, but its hard to really accept that unless you get offered a seat lol. Should know within the next month and a half so there may be some big life changes upcoming.

Best of luck, man.

You're a smart guy that comes off friendly and well-spoken (in my bropinion), so you should be confident in your ability to represent.

Appreciate the kind words brother. Just a waiting game at this point...they have another set of interviews this upcoming weekend and then they'll get back to us by the first week of Feb supposedly. From my estimation, given that there were 24 people in my interview group, and only 20 seats available, I just have to hope im in the top ~40% of interviewees. At the end of the day I'd be more than happy being the last seat to get filled. My big down fall is that i'm not great at talking myself up, which is unfortunately a big part of the interview (without coming off arrogant or entitled).

Well, as previously mentioned as a possibility, last week's lifting went to shît quick. Didnt hit any of the deloads aside from bench. Spent the vast majority of the week either driving, sitting in a chair, or asleep, so that didnt do my lower back or glutes any favors. But, im back at it this week. Still have to decide whether im going to pull sumo or conventional this mesocycle. Part of me is just tempted to pull conv up until i establish the 1rm for the peak then pull that sumo, but id also like to get a couple weeks of skill practice in before i pull a near max; so thats my predicament.

1/23 - meso 2 micro 1 day 1

5th set weights reset to 80%. I wasnt sure what to do with the MSM movement, so i backed it down to microcycle 4's weights and will start working back up from there. Kept the iso movements on the same progression from the final microcycle.

•meant to hit 2x15 standing calf raises - im gonna try to do 2 sets every session instead of 5 sets after squats and deads only. I get debilitating DOMS when I overdo calves to the point where i bîtch out and just skip it, so im hoping backing down volume and upping freq will allow for me to add a little mass down there without them being sore for 5 days (literally, ive had calf doms for a week before).

I was getting calf DOMS bad at once per week but when I forced myself to hit em on both lower days fairly regularly it fixed the problem.

I changed my MSM's but he says whatever seems best to you, whether that Be wave back to start weights, continue, or split the difference.

I'm pushing my squat, doing extra in a linear fashion. But I feel I'm adjusting to my new job, am prioritizing sleep, AND at a small caloric surplus now so I think I will be ok if I'm smart and don't overdo my overdoing it.

Yah, i started off strong doing them as prescribed but honestly it just doesn't seem appealing to me at the end of a leg day, so im hoping if i just spread them out to every day i wont have a problem making myself do them.

Like changed them completely? Or just the %s you were working off of? I think either is fine, just wondering. Ill take it on a case by case basis i think, like for cg floor press i just waved back and started about halfway through, but for fronts today I started at the beginning but will be doing 3x5 instead of 3x3.

Was considering something similar, but ill save that for my update below. Would love some feedback from you or anyone else on it. I think it should be fine and wont really contribute to fatigue build up much.

Thought: What do you guys think about after my speed/technique sets working singles up 5% each week starting week 3 until eventually ill hit a single thats 85-90% of what Id like to hit on my test week? So itd go 75% wk 3 80% wk 4 85-90% week 5 then week 6 is when I test maxes. Thatd be for squat and dead only. I wont stay set on any certain %s or #s, will dictate mainly off rpe -> nothing >7

Example: i want to hit ~500 on my week 6 squat test to set me up for 515-530 in the meet.

W3: speed/technique sets, maybe a tweener set, 75% of 500 = 375x1
W4: speed/technique sets, " ", 80% of 500 = 400x1
W5: " ", " ", 85-90% of 500 = 425-450x1
W6: tests

Btw, yesterday was my low cal/low carb day, ended up in a ~500 cal deficit with ~60g carbs, and I weighed in at 244 post workout with my only food being a preworkout shake containing some water, 1/2 scoop of select, and 120g of ground up oats. I really shouldnt have any issues making 242 in march if I do that meet, so thats cool.

Nice work. I'd say go for it with the single after your speed work. I don't think it would affect your recovery or anything at all. The speed work should be a decent primer for this as well.

That was my thought process as well, should have negligible effect on recovery, and should help me "feel" some heavier weights and not go into a max attempt with only feeling 315-335 on my back for 10 weeks.
