Saliva Hormone Tests?

It seems due to laws here in New York you can't get blood work done without being under physicians care. Someone recommended looking into saliva test kits, which are pretty cheap. I can buy a saliva kit, send it in, and they send you the results back. Although because I live in New York they won't send me all the results back like E1 and E3, but they will send back E2 which is good. Anybody use any of these saliva test kits? Do they work and does anyone recommend any?

I read this from 2007, which seemed promising: Invalid Link Removed

I don't know if I can just travel over to a lab in another state for blood work either because I am still an NY resident. Just trying to run my first andro cycle and there's always another issue holding me back.

Thanks

I would go to Invalid Link Removed and find the lab closest to your location that they are affiliated with. Call them and ask if being a NY resident is an issue. If it isn't, then order a Female Hormone Testing Panel. If it is, then I guess you'll have to go through a PCP.

Yeah I was hoping to avoid going through my PCP for this. My insurance may pick up the tab for the first test but after that I doubt it unless there is something wrong. Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on the saliva tests or used them?

What I'm thinking of doing is getting blood work through my PCP and then sending in the saliva test and comparing the two results. If they match it seems like it would be a viable option for testing after cycle. I would imagine someone else on these forums would have had some experience with these tests?

How far of a drive would it be for you to get to a state that will allow you to use Private MD? I assume you would have already done this if it was an option but I figured I'd mention it.

I can get out of state but then I think I'd have to give a false address to the lab or use someone's address I know. And to be honest, I don't want to drag someone I know into this. I know I can get blood work done through my PCP if I complain about low test sides, but it'll be a red flag to ask to get it done several times if nothing is wrong on the first test.

I do appreciate all the help guys. Just trying to get everything squared away properly before I run my first PH cycle.

From what I'm seeing online it looks like this is a pretty reliable test for test, estro, cortisol, etc. I'll compare it to bloods and see if there are any discrepancies. Maybe a viable option for people in my situation.

What's the closest state to you? PA? NJ?

I still think you'd be better off calling a lab in that state and asking them if there is any issue with a NY resident using their services without a PCP's authorization. I just can't see a saliva test being as accurate as a blood test.

Definitely New Jersey. I heard they won't do it if your residence is in NY, but people have used fake addresses with success... but that's not something I want to have to do either.

I would call them just to make sure. I can't see why a New Jersey business would care about a New York law that doesn't apply to them, but maybe they do.

I'll find out. The medical billing laws are weird. Even on the saliva tests they won't do all the tests for NY residents if you mail it in. They send back most of the important stuff but residents of other states get a more detailed panel for some reason.

What is their reasoning for this? It seems like you should have a right to get any tests done that you want, as long as you have the money to pay for them.

I don't know. It just specified that NY residents won't receive E1 and E3 results. I don't know much about the medical billing laws. I usually just go to the doctor when I'm sick and my insurance picks up the tab. This is my first time opting for tests like this out of pocket (never ran PHs before).
