24 and Dont know what to do with my life

Hey guys. just curious what some of you are doing for a living, how you got into it, what you majored in, and just at what age you guys figured it out.

I did great through undergrad, graduated with a 3.8 gpa, exercise phys degree, planned on going to PT school, rejected by every single school 2 years in a row, despite a great GPA, good recommendations, 500+ observation hours under a PT, lots of community service, its just so damn competitive. And now I'm not applying a third year, it just doesn't interest me anymore after being rejected twice.

I graduated in December 2014 and since I've worked as a personal trainer in now 3 different gyms, just recently switched to my new job, and worked in physical therapy as a tech but I no longer do that. And now I'm struggling tremendously financially. since I just switched jobs and have to build up my clients again.

Apart from that, I do have things going for me in bodybuilding/fitness, but I know that's not where moneys made, but I do have a fairly large social medial following (20,000+), so I'm hoping maybe get into branding myself, selling gym apparel, meal plans, training, etc. one day. also work with a modeling agency in new York, and just finished up 2 big photoshoots with some of the top photographers in the fitness industry.

but like I said, not much money is in that, I need an actual job, and I'm struggling bad right now. When did you guys have it figured out and howd you figure it ou?

Dont give up .. Keep applying, You said it yourself its competitive .. Keep applying and on the side keep looking for jobs to get you by.

To be honest i didnt knew until i was 30 as to which direction i wanted to go

I got my degree in sociology, got nice job offer super exicted making good money as a Sr. case manager for disability children/family .. just took a toll on me man, Think after a year i was just going insane, thinking about them all the time and just felt sad for them ( i know its wrong to say .. but i was getting depressed myself ) at that point i was like i need to change career and worked for ATT sales as a team lead manager traveled for it, left that for communications manager .. and now im in IT-noc Analyst .. and i love it.

I felt like giving up but keep searching if you really like it, keep going .. if you feel like you need a career change then would need to say $ or get a loan and just dont wait and get to it

Something will come good when you are least expecting it dude. In the meantime take ashwagandha lol

Like GQ said, keep trying. You could also go back if you wanted and do Sports Medicine. That would give you a huge advantage in the PT field. Either way, good luck bro.

Bro this is the greatest part of life and one of the reasons so many of us have become good friends.

Life is like a set, at some point you'll want to quit or walk away.

Facing it head on and saying bringing , lets do this is easier said than done. If life were easy there would be no fun in doing anything at all.

It's not how many times you fall or get knocked down, it's what you do when you get up.

Your going to grab the bull by the horns and run that F"er into the ground. Stand over it and look into its eyes and say "your mine".

Whatever comes at you is a test my friend, never quit, never give in. Stay in here post with us and I promise it'll come. There a lot of great people here with more to teach than ph"s or routines.

As always you need anything just ask brother

If you don't mind my asking where have you applied? What state ya looking into?

If that's what would went to school for you obviously care about it. Have you looked at other states? I know they are always looking for good pt in my area. Are you looking for working with kids or rehabbing adults?

Brilliant

MikeG5 keep working theougj the struggles until you pull through. And you will if you push! I was 24 before I knew what I wanted, bounced from job to job, and then it happened. I tested for a fire department just "cause" and was rejected, but the test itself sparked my interest so I pursued, and 1 year later I was certified and hired by my first department. So now? Im a full time firefighter, and part time EMT, barely making it financially, but providing my family what they need. And what's important to me is the fact I LOVE what I do, and I dont HAVE to go to work , I GET to go to work. When its what you want, the fight, the struggles, and the time spent is all worth it.

No but like I said, it doesn't even interest me anymore. I'm not going to apply if I've lost interest and its no longer what I want to do. I'm not going to apply and get a job just to have a job if I'm just going to be unhappy

Not applying again, but yeah sports medicine is an option. Thanks.

thanks a lot.

If you don't mind my asking where have you applied? What state ya looking into?

I've applied to university of Maryland, northwestern, ohio state, Pittsburgh, Delaware, usc, arcadia, Miami, Univ of FL, Virginia common wealth, wvu, george Washington and a few more, cant remember them all. I applied to 6 my first time, 11 the second.

I was planning on exercise science degree but realized it's basically useless if you don't go into Physical Therapy.

You could work construction, long hard hours but good money.

I'm getting my bachelors in construction science/management. It's not the labor work just managing the field or office side of things. It pays great with good benefits. It is also long hours and stressful but should be a really fun and rewarding job if you're interested in building, architecture, engineering type stuff.

Since you already have a bachelors you could possibly get another bachelors in construction management in just a couple years.

Start your own brand/company or something like you said. You can start with shirts or something simple.

If you do end up applying again, you might want to try some smaller schools as well. I've done undergrad and then 7 years of grad school and can tell you that the name of the school on your diploma does not make as much of a difference as many will tell you. You want to find a good accredited school, but it doesn't have to be a Northwestern. What you do with that degree after you get it is what people are going to care about.

I didn't figure what I wanted to do until around 28 or 29. I went to school for programming then networking and never got degree in either. At 26 I took a job installing Internet for a local start up WISP. I quickly decided I hated being on roofs. I moved into tech support, more up my alley. Then one day I accidentally answered the sales line... and never looked back. I helped the company grow from 500 subscribers to 15,000 in 4 years before it was sold to the largest WISP in the country. After few years they got rid of all of us who built it up, however I took my sales and sales management skills to my current job where I manage 5-10 million dollars worth of accounts for a retail display company.

Long story long lol, I had no idea that I would have a career in sales. I always thought it would be on the IT side. You're young, you will find your lane when it's time.

The people your age that have it all figured out are the lucky ones. Most people have to jump through hoops and try several different things, including things they never wanted to do until they find themselves where they want to be. Then they realize that place is not all they thought it was and start the process over again. Oops...that is me. It's truly just part of life unless you were born with a silver spoon in your hand. Yes; it does suck though at times...

LoL
Dallas is upscale in tx, try the houston area or west tx. Alot of construction, chemical, petroleum opportunities. And ur educated so a good salary job would be available. Im 27yrs and made 6 figures the last 3 years with just an associates

Yeah, I'm doing fine for a job, but was not expecting this when I moved down. I didn't think it was going to look like the wild west, but didn't expect the ridiculous amount of crazy rich people either.

I'm in Oklahoma, but I saw a very young looking student driving a brand new Maserati on campus the other day. lol I figured I should just go ahead and give up on life at this point.

I never realized the amount of wealth in Oklahoma and Texas until a couple of years ago. All of the construction, oil, and land opportunities it's outrageous.

More or less when their mommies and daddies have that land and the kids just well live it up. I used to be salty about it but now I'm glad some people get to be so blessed

Oh it doesn't bother me that they have good lives lol I'd be the same way if my parents were loaded. It was just a little excessive I think for a probably 19 year old driving a brand new Maserati.

Not all of Texas lol. I pay way more in rent living in Dallas than I ever did living in downtown Chicago.

Because where you are at is filled with snarky fcks...lol

I went to college later in my 20s. Restless post-HS. Wanted to be on my own. Meant working full time and then some. By the time I went to college I knew what I need to do in terms of degree matching occupation. Business Admin.

Came to it be accident. I thought I knew what I wanted to do(be an academic) but because we all need money to live and enjoy life entered another line of work which I excelled at, sales, which if one is good makes very good money. So stayed at it. Still have my other interests but it is not a career.

I also went though a bunch of blue collar/trades type in late teens to early-mid 20s:, high end security officer phase, construction worker phase, marine salvage worker, etc.etc until landing in sales. I did all very well. The best. Found my niche at the end. Glad at this age to get out of manual labor early on.

Met plenty in my age who were similar finding their way in life. What is different from then and now is young people seem to be easily discouraged. Optimism is the hallmark of youth. No matter how much you get beat down you get back up. Nobody gives you anything ever.

Oh yeah, I coined an expression a few years ago... You make a decision and you really do not know until a few years later if that was a good decision or not. But make a decision because indecision leads nowhere.

Just don't join the military.! Cuz you still won't know what to do with you you like. Ahah. Seriously tho

I'm a captain on a tugboat not your typical job but it pays great .you start as a deckhand then test at coast guard for pilots license then it's easy sailing. Seriously though the advancement rate is fast and money is good you get to travel and on /off time is nice

I joined the military when I was 17, did my time and have never regretted it. Knew what I wanted, knew I didnt want to continue doing what my Navy Rate was and am pretty happy.

That's awesome! As challenging as retail can be (customer service) you tend to work with a variety of great people. I had the most fun at a job and the most friends when I worked in retail. Now that I am out of it; I dread going to work...

im a dental hygienist. had it figured out bc my dad's a dentist. he helped steer me in that direction. thank goodness i truly enjoy scraping crap off peoples teeth. im weird. i know....

find something you like. figure out what is important to your life. Are you into family time ? do you like traveling? do you have ambitious career goals? its hard to balance out family life and a very ambitious career at once. you are still young and have time :). you sound ambitious. im sure you will have it figured out.

I'm 21 going on what feels like 60 cause of a ****ed up shoulder. Have no idea what I'm doing in my life now because my shoulder basically kicked me out from any military spec ops programs I was interested in...

Be a code breaker for the Navy.
