Donald Trump running for president

I'm surprised Trump let his wife vote. Looks like he's making sure she's following his orders like a good housewife should.

gotta be honest, you lost all credibility many pages back by trying to state that I was justifying some sexual assault. DD is correct, you are a troll, no more, no less.

Ask yourself this - Since when has anyone's post about politics changed anyone's opinion? Then realize that I don't care about my political credibility.

Just a note for you lot in here that keep saying things like 'libtards', 'liberal blinders', etc.... Over 75% of Americans are moderate, meaning when it all boils down, there are hardly any true left wing or right wing citizens in this country. And y'all call me the troll in here. Maybe y'all should realize why I started posting in this thread in the first place.

You're correct, most people are politically moderate but culturally speaking most are left due to the fact they call for more government intervention in individual's lives for the "collective good".

Yeah, you're right, I guess I don't want a Mad Max style culture ;)

How about this as a summary of what I want:

You are free to do whatever you want as long as it doesn't harm anyone else or infringe on their rights to do what they want.

Two guys want to get "married" and have rights as a couple in the eyes of the law? Great. A Church doesn't want to accept that marriage? Ok, whatever. A grown adult wants to smoke weed in his house to relax? Ok. You want to buy a large soda? Go for it. Polygamy? Sure, assuming everyone involved is of legal age and consents. You want to own a semi-auto (not an assault rifle, which is full-auto) gun with more than 10 rounds to protect your property? You aren't a felon etc. go ahead, but make the penalties for gun related crimes very severe to help deter them. Many, many of these crimes are committed by repeat offenders, and many democrats often vote AGAINST stricter penalties for gun related crimes while pushing for more gun laws. What?

How does that stuff sound?

People like muscleupcrohn and others (in real life, lol) made me reconsider reversing my Gayry boycott just a few days ago.

It sounds good until you get into the nitty gritty stuff of how the country is actually run.

What? Same-sex "marriage/civil unions" and even polygamy (even though it can complicate insurance a bit) are easy to pass, as is a private religious institution not having to recognize/accept the marriage. Large sodas was an extreme example, but happened (NY), and pot will likely be legalized at some point in the future. Gun control is a bit of a hot topic, but it only makes sense that if you plan on making more gun laws, you actually enforce the ones already on the books, and ensure that they are severe enough to actually deter these gun-related crimes, or what's the point, as it would only serve do disarm law-abiding citizens. Your response wasn't really much of a rebuttal.

No, I agree with all of what you said.

It's just that most people that are Libertarian start out that way. They appeal to the socially liberal parts that I agree with.

Then they get into privatizing all services, eliminating things like the EPA, Department of Education, etc.

Ok, that makes sense. I'm more of what I'd call a "realistic" libertarian as opposed to an "idealistic" libertarian (not sure if those are real terms or not). By that I mean I really want more individual freedoms and less government intervention in our personal lives, but I realize that we're always going to have a government, and there are some things that either it "should" do, or enough people want it that it's a "necessary compromise" if we want any progress towards libertarian legitimacy to be made. Granted, I'm not a fan of common core, but government involvement in education (preferably mostly on the state level) isn't something that should really be eliminated IMO. The government spending and inefficiency does really need to be addressed though.

Just keep FED out of our education decisions and leave it up the the locality of the state and its voters. Let the states compete and come up with their own ideas along with best serving its local people.

If it were fully up to the state, just think of education in places like Alaska and Texas. They'd be teaching that dinosaurs never existed, Jesus built America (the lost tribe), and that we're all a product of two people inbreeding and populating the world lol

I'm not saying leave it 100% up to the state, but it should be, at most, a set of guidelines/curriculum from the federal level, with mor of the details handled at the state level. Common core is no bueno.

I think we're mostly on the same page :)

I think so too. That's the crazy thing about this election and American politics in general. It's SOOOOO divisive, and the two-party-system often forces people to support one side or the other on issues they don't want to, an makes people think that there's only two options. You probably heard the whole "a vote for a third party is a vote for Trump" from Democrats, and "a vote for a third party is a vote for Hillary" from Republicans. Hell, if everyone who hated Trump and Clinton voted third party, they could possibly win the popular vote (I think >60% said they don't like either of them), although he winner-takes all nature of the electoral college hurts third parties.

You nailed it right here. :)

More like Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Norway or New Zealand.

That's the short list of countries I'd like to live in someday.

I'm with you there, those are some of the most capitalistic countries in the world. I believe Sweden started privatizing once they noticed socializing got nowhere and their economy benefited from it greatly.

But they have socialized medicine, free education and paid parental leave ;)

Yep. Here's how an American can get free tuition in Germany. Goes for international and German students. I would've loved to have studied in Berlin.

That actually sounds awesome....but someone still has to pay for that, its not free. I wonder how the average german feels about this?

I believe the reason they are doing this is to retain population. They are suffering population loss. The catch is that you have to work there for a few years or so post-grad. Germany is also offering cash incentives for child birth within the country.
