Hairygrandpas log, fat- and older people welcome!- diet, training, cycles, healing

Looking good HGP! You've definitely made huge progress since I've been following your log(s) a while back! This video is a bit boring but the guy only speaks facts Invalid Link Removed here he talks about exercises not to do and I think they all are bad for shoulder health but I don't remember what he said lol.

Gramps, who brings a photographer with him to the gym? What's up with that? :)

This man is a walking clinic, rehab centre, and pharmacy! If everyone had the ability and drive to research, apply, and learn like you the medical industry would be out of business lol! Seriously though, HG you're looking more impressive by the day. Awesome full body sesh you had too!

Hahaha!!!! It's Jason Blaha!! Damn.
You are not as deep into the youtube drama as I am, I recon. Thank you anyway, you have good intentions.

It's my son taking the pics. I'm working to get him competition ready. Tuesday next week we have an appointment with a local prep coach to get an opinion -but I reserve me the right to prep him myself. What can go wrong, LOL? We are in Bananaland, if the competition is too hard, all judges like money, right?
kidding
For his natty bulk I got him TD Laxogenin, Virtus, Creatine, a good weight gainer, Nos ether, Whey, Casein and Follidrone. He is doing a 4 day/week full body HST workout, doing really good (like his"natty" dad, hehe).

Haha, too much praise here, remember, I'm also a diet quitting puzzy with too much fat on his hips (still -but just you wait!).

Ahh, haha well diet is THE hardest part no doubt..very easy to slip up fall off the wagon. You'll come through with it though, it took me a couple months to dial it in and make it as enjoyable as a caloric deficit can be.

As far as the YouTube drama with Jason Blaha...all I have to say is "lmao"

Now THAT is hilarious!
But thanks for the encouragement!

I saw your picture, we both are somewhat sturdy build, like wrestlers but you are in way better shape.
Don't tell me "the lighting" was in your favor or something, lol.

I'll take it. I've been on this frikkin diet for almost 3 years! I just started to be able to see some muscle popping through this year. But now the real work starts - the last15-25 lbs (I'll decide as I go - cant really tell right now). Reading about other people working hard at it make it a little easier....

Would love to see a picture from 3 years ago to have a comparison. I'm going the same route now, slowly but firmly (with the help of all kind of juice I admit).
15-25 Lbs to lose? Nah, can't imagine... 15 maybe.
It truly is getting harder to lose fat while getting older.

Yes, but on the positive side, no one expects to see an old guy looking shredded, so even being reasonably lean with decent muscle impresses the heck out of people!

If you want to REALLY impress them, just tell them you're 65! YOU could get away with it!

Dang, bro! Hahaha!
Will ride the bus, just to see if any youngster offers me his seat. If that happens, I'll get a face transplant.

HG, have you researched Metformin? My doc offered it to me for its anti-aging properties. This drug has been used for over 50 years to treat diabetes but it is also prescribed to overweight people. It works by essentially inhibiting the production of glucose in the liver plus it increases insulin sensitivity. I take 500 mg per day.

Yea I never look into the YouTube drama lol I just go for his info, the other youtubers either spew bull**** or pseudoscience bull****.

Is it me or is this dudes dog looking at him like "I hate being your dog"?
Pretty sure most everyone hates him, he lied about being a mercenary.

And being related to an astronaut... Dude started out with legit fitness industry complaints but then just went completely off the rails.

My thought exactly! Looking at him like you really think your gangster living in the burbs with a dog like me. I'm crying at work this is so funny! thanks for sharing the pic Lifted67. Funny!

And let me guess, everyone around you is eyeballing you and thinking you have "problems"? I seem to get that a LOT since joining this forum. Good times!!

You talked about it in your log and I was already sold to the idea! I just forgot about it, thank you.

Is it safe to mess with the production of glucose in the liver?

A lot of people enjoyed Blahas vids in the past, me too, they used to be informative until he totally lost it, I mean he really went full retard.LOL

I probably missed those videos lol what happened?
All hell broke loose, too much to count like: he was a mercenary, he killed people, he knows about aliens, he's bigger than certain pro body builders... full retard, LOL

Yea that sounds a bit crazy lol the mercenary thing can be legitimate but besides all that he seems mellow now lol maybe he wasn't on some meds around that time

The mercenary thing was fully debunked, he took it to the extreme by letting a friend pose as a witness, it got bizarre beyond your wildest dreams, LOL.

Let the party begin, I have arrived. Sucked into this thread since HGP is a diet quitter. Have to sub so I continue getting my daily dose...

Quitter? Nope. Adjuster? Yep. And good for him!

Let's talk about the dangers of self administered TRT:

Fellow AM brothers, what are we looking at?

It's HG's hairy butt cheek with an golf ball sized abscess from trying to inject his Test.
This "pimple" appeared 3 days ago, even though my last butt injection was 6 weeks ago.

I guess the abscess will be ready for draining in a few days, who wants a video of me doing it?

Today, great day at the gym!

Did full body workout, highlights:
DB Pull overs 100lbs x5
Chin ups +40lbs x10/6
cable flies (first time since injury!)
standing DB press with 2x35lbs x20/20/20 (after injury!)
seated row 230lbs x17 rp 10
lots of curls, cable triceps, oblique twists, shoulder rehab

Shoulder injury is healed to 95% (5% still pain doing presses; lateral rises).
Feeling great!
Still not eaten all day, recomp meal will have about 1800kcal.

HGP, everyone else let's you make excuses and take the easier road, but I still think you are taking it too easy on yourself ...there is nothing special to this and of course you are going to fail a bunch of times. I expected you to be more stubborn and bull headed.

Look at these recent photos that everyone is telling you show progress. Why do you think that is? Because you took it easy? No, that progress is because there was a period of time where you were hard on yourself and it actually made a visual difference ...you can see it. That fat loss makes you look bigger! You out in the hard work and it shows. I am proud of you for that, and I know you are not quitting, but I am here to push you harder because I KNOW you get it. I am sorry if everyone thinks I'm stupid or a complete a$$hat. But I expect a lot from you and I would love to see you back in the game, even at higher calories, and showing us that 18 pounds dsl of fat loss.

Also, MrKleen73 may have better advice here - but I think part of the reason it was so hard on you was because you didn't follow the diet that Lyle laid out. You should have had a couple of smaller meals, and incorporated more cruciferous veggies and protein. I don't follow the diet perfectly either, but I started off with chicken and broccoli 3 times a day and grew accustomed to the deficit. Plus, you should have still been around 1000-1200 / day.

Sorry again, I'm the jerk that is mad at you for quitting. But you hold me accountable and I owe this to you.

Is it safe to mess with the production of glucose in the liver?

Good question. What is safe though? Glucose production in the liver is in co start flux anyway, and just dieting alone will cause changes. Metformin has its applications.

Ouch. Be careful my friend. Did you read the article on sub q injections?

Thank you for the kind words.
I'm still fighting but had to cut the self imposed chains. I'm progressing since I started lifting, going my own way. Committing to that super low cal diet was a personal failure, as I overshot my true abilities.
Feeling fresh and motivated now, I can choose when -and what to eat AND I'm watching it anyway. Let's compare in 5 weeks, I bet I can pull off a good recomp until then.
Looking into Metformin too, promising compound for sure.

Ouch. Be careful my friend. Did you read the article on sub q injections?
Yep, I'm careful. Read about Sub-Q, works for some but causes lumps for others.
Injecting in my delts is virtually hassle free. That abscess is from a tried (and failed) self administration, should had gone higher -and was contaminated somehow, even though I'm very diligent doing it right... well, sh1t happens.

Sure in a sick way. that doesn't look good brother.

Sure in a sick way. that doesn't look good brother.

Using epson salts in a sort of a bandage at night to draw it out. If I get the slightest sign of a sepsis I'm obviously looking for help from the "qualified" banana-medics here in Paraguay.
I lost at least half a dozen of friends to medical negligence, so don't anyone tell me to rush to a doc, LOL!

Just get a knife and be a man.

Yesterday and today was more of a "Tutti-Frutti" day in the gym.
Doing a bit of everything, while still in a caloric deficit.

Spending more time prepping my son, spotting and checking on his form.
He is doing very well, progressing with every day.
