Green Tea Catechins (EGCG) and Somatostatin Inhibition

***Green Tea Catechins (EGCG)***

One of my favorite supplements just because it has so MANY tremendous benefits not only from an ergogenic standpoint, but also from an overall health standpoint. EGCGs are:

-aid in liver protection
-aid in lipid oxidation
-aid in blood vessel health
-cardioprotective
-neuroprotective
-anti-carcinogenic
-anti-diabetic
-aid in the transportation and strengthening effects of some somatostatin inhibitors to their receptors (like huperzine when utilizing any exogenous growth hormone supplements.)

There are varied recommendations on dosages as well as timing depending on whether your using it to increase lipid oxidation, strengthen any somatostatin inhibitor, or as an anti-cancer aid.

What's your idea/stance on EGCG causing liver enzymes to be elevated over a period of time? It's something I've looked at and discussed with a few people, but I'm always interested in more opinions, especially in an open thread about it.

I have seen liver enzymes become elevated in maybe 35-40% of the people I've had implement it into their protocol (rough percentage) and it seemed to only become elevated at the higher range of the dosages done for 4-6+ months. It was nice though because as soon as we saw those numbers rise we simply dropped the dosage and lowered the frequency and the numbers returned to baseline fairly quickly.

What experience do you have with it? It is VERY interesting and I'm glad you asked that!

That's why I can't get behind using it and especially not using it as a liver protection aid (as the first bullet point states). I think most of the liver issues arise due to contamination verse the actual ingredient itself. That is just my opinion on it though it could very will be liver toxic at higher doses.

CONTAMINATION 100%

Almost ALL green tea coming out of China is contaminated with heavy metals. Which is why we see studies showing a extreme reduction in T3 and T4 with GTE use, and others showing a significant reduction in testosterone production.

I like GTE. However, if your supplement is NOT third party tested with results published...I would stay far far away.
