I can't play it. :/

Nice work and solid form! Do you always use an overhand grip? I always use an overhand grip but most people I see use a mixed grip but I am not fond of it.

Great job, but the camera guy moved to the right at the end and we could only see half of you.

I know I was pissed! The stand I had wasn't sent up right and kept tilting…I'll be sure to get another video up…working up to a 465x20 so there will be plenty of videos along the way!

Geez man, that's pretty incredible.. I can only ever wish for that someday

Thanks dude! You can DEFINITELY get it…whats your training programming looking like?

Nice gym by the way. Equipment looks all new and shiny. Barbell doesn't roll because of a slanted floor. Barbell is clean and not warped. Wish I could find a place that nice.

Thanks man I love it!…besides the slanted floor haha..its a 24/7 gym so I'm there at 1am so I don't have to mess with other people lol

Conspiracy, I think they subbed in another guy for the last 8 pulls who had a similar left side build.

LMAO!!!! That honestly gave me a good chuckle!!!

BEAST! Bro and I like that you are using the overhand grip.

Thanks man!

Just watched again. Awesome form. Also makes me feel like an old fat ass. Wondering how old you are beast.

Thanks! Nahh I'm sure your not lol, any current progress pics of yourself?

And I just turned 23 in November

I can't play it. :/

why not? lol

Thanks! And its funny because I used to use a mixed grip and never had an issue with grip strength BUT it strained my bicep waaay too much so I switched to double overhand…easier for me

Awesome job with the TNG

Thanks! Not a fan of resetting if I got above 6 reps

I completely disagree. Show me evidence where a mixed grip dead is putting a person at risk for injury. This is by far the most common grip used in deadlifting and has been used forever to help increase grip when moving up in weight. If anything is hurting a person, it is poor form and pulling too much weight. And to say it isn't helping with grip strength is simply said to be argumentative.

It does put you at a higher chance of biceps tendon and lat tears. I know a guy thats torn the same lat 3 times with his under hand. Ive also seen an article saying it puts the tspine at a higher chance for injury due to the rotational component it can add in (I've tried searching for this article multiple times and can never find it anymore, maybe taken down bc its bs. I dont know. I just know i read it before).

With that being said, you are correct that its the most common and has been used forever to help increase grip via not allowing the bar to rotate. I do think its bull**** that he said mixed grip "doesn't train your grip". Thats not even being argumentative...its just plain bs lol.

And OP, the video isnt loading for me either. But, awesome work.

kisaj - I tore my bicep tendon shortly after hitting a big 1RM on deadlift a few years back, while using a mixed grip. The arm/hand that had the underhand grip was the one with the bicep tendon / SLAP tear.

t-bone is stating back injuries and I would argue that curl lovers are putting themselves at higher risk of bicep injuries than someone using mixed grip on deads.

I don't think the risk of injury is significant, but there are risks above double overhand. Mixed also has the potential to create muscular imbalances between each side's abdominal and trunk musculature, causing twists or one hip sitting higher than the other. I've heard of many torn biceps on heavy deadlifts from disciplined lifters. Not so many from curl bros. What idiot lifters do to put themselves at risk is not the same as a risky lift.

That's a decent article from what i just skimmed. Sorry for the hijack OP.

I wouldn't argue with that. I just feel that the risk is very low and in all my years have only encountered 1 person that experienced this out of hundreds that I've been around deadlifting.

Meh, no point going on about it. :)

Agreed. All about the hook grip.

I need to purchase a set of Fat Grips to help train my grip on farmers walks. Great lil tool for grip strength.

I actually don't even hook group, just straps and go double overhand..I do love my grip training though!

When did I say mixed grip doesn't train your grip?

All I said was I used to pull mixed grip but it strained my bicep???? I can easily pull this weight without straps doing it mixed grip BUT I don't want to risk injury to myself. My grip strength hasn't changed 1 bit from using straps…I never said it didnt train your grip haha. I just said it has lessened my grip strength.

Really??? I won't why not….you could always check out my youtube channel for it

No hijack at all I love the debate! I feel like the biggest thing is doing what works on a person to person basis. If i can feel it overly straining my bicep tendon, why push it? If it doesn't stress yours, stick with it. There isn't just 1 way haha. PLUS I use straps so that COMPLETELY changes things haha. Although I'm concerned with progressive overload, I'm a bodybuilder, not a powerlifter, so pulling with straps makes no different to me unless it lessened my grip strength, which luckily it hasn't for me.

Gotta go with anecdotal evidence more than half the time even though (for anyone who follows me) I love using research! haha

To be honest, I don't use a hook grip either, but I've heard it's great. I'm kind of scared to smash my thumbs at a heavy weight, but honestly I haven't been deadlifting much since my surgery. Just doing a lot of cleans/ power cleans and RDL's and some sumo deads. Haven't been lifting heavy conventional deads for a whiiiiile.

I just never took the time to learn hook haha…thats a smart approach man, what surgery?

I've tried hook grip and it bothers my thumbs so I have no use for it. In fact, the double overhand that I do may seem a bit unorthodox to some of you. I actually don't wrap my thumbs around the back of the bar; I keep them on the same side as my four fingers. The thumb doesn't do much in this scenario but it is the most comfortable for me. I also have never used straps but I lift at home and don't have enough plates to go too far beyond 345 lbs. I definitely need to buy some more steel plates.

SLAP tear with bicep tenodesis and removal of my bursa.

I hired the official doctor/surgeon for the NYC triathlon to do it. He used a different method for the tenodesis. Drilled right through my humerus and anchored my bicep tendon on the other side, instead of anchoring into the bone on the 1 side. Told him I train like a football player and don't want to stop!! So he sorted me out nicely :D this thing will never rip out.

it's really simple and will definitely help. I feel it made as much of a difference for me as chalk does. It would only take a month or two to get the hang of it and deaden the nerves a bit. I overhand all the way up to 385 then switch to hook as my forearms just can't squeeze the bar enough at that weight and towards lockout it starts becoming a false grip

GOD does that sound like it hurt haha…at least its there for good haha
