Dog lovers, do you gives you dogs supplements?

Why dont you try caraway seeds to see if they remove the growths. You can find them in the spice isle and order online. Put them in a capsule. One of my ex boyfriends was devastated over his mom because sick, in the hospital and could eat or keep anything down. He told me her symptoms. I told him about caraway seeds, he made her tea everyday and she got better. At that time she was in the hospital close to death. She got much better after that and her appetite came back etc.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. Been trying the natural route before having to resort to prednisone (which will only be a temporary fix)
 
Awesome thread. My dogs are truly my best friends. It's a relationship nobody can understand. I do many things to preserve their health and quality of life (good food, daily walk/runs, etc.) but never considered much else for supplements other than a dog multi. Good info on the joint and organ support.
I have 3, but this my booooy!!

Anyone here feed their dogs raw? I want to switch, but I'm concerned with giving him a proper balance, so at first I think I'm going to try one of these ready-made frozen raw delivery services.

Any ideas about these guys here? If I feed my boy this, pretty sure he'll be eating better than me!

It's all GMO free, organic, grain free, free range. Grass-fed beef, etc. It's REAL expensive though. Seems to be about $300/month for enough food to feed a 100lb dog.

I feed raw. I don't think you need to pay for a service. IMO people try to over-complicate it. Balance each meal with a healthy starch (oats, quinoa, potatoes, white rice), veggies (green beans or broccoli), and a protein (cooked eggs, chicken, ground beef, bison, or fish). Add in some MCTs and olive oils and pick up a multi at petsmart. It's really not that hard.

How are you keeping calcium - phosphorus ratio at 1:1?

Yeah everywhere I've read said dogs can develop health problems if calcium/phosphorous ratio is off. It's great that everythings' going well for you though, glad you haven't run into problems. You don't feed bones/egg shells at all though? In what you listed, there's very little dietary calcium at all, and only a bit of fiber. Raw feeders are telling me that bones/egg shells should be part of their regular diet. Anyhow, what you're doing seems to be working for you.
 
Nope, I don't give him egg shells or bones. He is on a comprehensive multivitamin that my vet suggested I get. He takes 2 of those a day. I'll ask my vet about the calcium/phosphorous ratio, but she never said anything to me about it nor ever had any concerns. I do give him greek yogurt occasionally and he eats a decent amount of cheese as a snack. He also gets some fiber from quinoa and sweet potatoes.

Hey sorry I meant to reply back the other day. It seems the concern for calcium / phosphorous ratio is mainly just for growing dogs :) They can get some abnormalities in bone structure as pups if the ratio is off (bowing of legs, curved bones, etc)

I'm going to look into the multi and also speak to my vet. Thanks for your tips etc.

Yes I give my pit bull bullymax they also have creatine for dogs but I wouldn't want to strain my dogs kidneys. I stand by bullymax for Pitt bulls German shepherds husky etc it's great
 
I give my dog oils and chicken breast. Offered him som epi too, but he's trying to be natty....

I give my mini weinersnitzle fish oil and/or eggs because she has insanely dry skin that. Same for my great pyranees. GP is starting to have joint issues though and I'd imagine Mini Weiner will too eventually.
 
If your dog is having joint issues get them on a glucosamine chondroitin supp. At 10yrs old my German Shepard used to limp for 2-3 days after a 3 mile run. She wouldn't lay flat on her belly like she was ready to go, would always roll to one side or the other and lay on her hips.

I got her on 1500mg Glucosamine and (proprietary blend) chondroitin/MSM. Dosage based on vet recommendation. And after 7 days she would get in that crouch position, laying flat on her belly again like when she was a pup. She's now 12yrs old. Ran 3miles everyday this week. I prefer trail running, and my property backs up to a state park. So today we chased a 6 point white tail buck for about a mile. And on the way home found a red fox that we tracked/chased for 1/2mile before I was winded and called her off. I'm not sure how she learned to scent track, but she just zig zags back and forth across the path the animals take until we find their hole, or in the case of the deer scare them up out of the brush again. Even jumping over fallen trees and streams at a full sprint she doesn't limp or show any signs of pain the next day. Anyway, she loves it, and it keeps me motivated to do cardio.
 
SWIM has heard, theoretically, that dog meat would be a great protein source, far greater than what beef, chicken, or fish provides. Is our government ever going to legalize consumption of dog meat?

If they eat something that could be toxic I always give them back charcoal, for a few days to flush it out. My puppy ate 30mg of yohimbe hcl and she was wired. I gave her black charcoal and cayenne pepper. I always use both when stuff, like that happens. She also ate my chocolate and did the same thing.
 
Here's a new supplement I picked up for my boy. It's a really good one for their skin/coats, immune system, energy and general health. Also packed with omega 3's

Nice, yeah I'm using both the nupro and seameal atm because of his skin problems, but I'm likely going raw soon.

Both? That seems like quite a bit of overkill. Remember fat soluble vitamins aren't good for dogs in high amounts either. Iirc they make certain products just for coat. If he/she has a coat issue it's likely due to an allergy issue. What kind of food you use?

The ingredients are fairly different in both though. Seameal is mostly just kelp and flax seed. My boy does have allergies. He's on a limited ingredient diet. He's been on Acana, Orijen, but now he's on DVP's LID. All of these have no grains. But yes, switching him to a raw diet soon for his allergies. Only way to really control his diet.

Have used that in the past. Best one I've found for my dog is Great Life Limited Ingredient Buffalo. Had 5 star rating on dogfoodadvisor and is $60 when you're lucky enough to find it in stock on Prime. Any idea what raw diet is going to cost you? I've never even done the math
 
Loving all the animal lovers here. I think it's just some amino you have to be careful about if they have cancer it cause make it worse. I did have lab work done on my 19 year old and my vet couldn't believe how on paper her liver and kidneys were so healthy, I know it's because of what I gave her. Schizandra is great for liver and kidneys, had mine checked and they were great and I take stimulants everyday for 20 years straight.

Pretty pricey for me I'm sure. I have a 110lb American bulldog.
