Chasing supplements when we should be focusing on food, training, and protein intake

In all seriousness

This thread was intended to be an intelligent, thoughtful discussion about at which point money is better spent on protein/food than on additional supplements, or what the right balance is.

Instead, you and several others came in here just to talk **** and act like you've been personally attacked, and derailed what was, prior to you and a few others posting, an interesting debate. I don't have any respect for people like yourself who resort to mocking/talking **** to people for the reasons you decided to.

No offense, but you came in here sort of being an ass whenever people challenged your viewpoint. If you can't handle being challenged for your views, don't post in a forum.

Money is better spent on food. Sure. But like everyone has already said, the majority of us have our food covered. Our diet and our training is under control. We are looking for supplements to give us an edge or to get us over a hump. Some supplements have good health benefits. Some people might have trouble burning fat despite a good diet. Some people may want something to help their strength. Some people may have had an injury and need something to give them an edge. Some people just want to feel like a God damn man and take every supplement under the sun. To each their own.

There's obviously a point of diminishing returns with consuming more protein; there comes a point where, regardless of how much money you have allocated for food, eating more is not going to benefit you, and isn't advisable. Yes, it is true that you can't out-supplement a poor diet, but once you have your diet on point, it makes more sense to look into supplements than it does to take your whole supplement budget and instead use it to buy more food when you're already in a sufficient caloric surplus (assuming you're bulking) and taking in sufficient amounts of protein. There are quite a few supplements that have been shown to have some sort of benefit, be it in regards to strength, LBM, endurnce, fat loss, etc. Once your diet is on point, you're better off adding in some supplements than indiscriminately and infinitely adding more and more protein to your diet.

I can't help it I like supplements. I'm not sure what it is exactly. To me it's just fun to have the training with the supplements, food, pre workout the list goes on. Although I would actually be embarrassed if someone asked what supplements I take because the list is kind of long but I don't own a lot of prop blends just single ingredients from trusted sources that I take together. I think the average person would think I'm an idiot for taking what I take because they simply don't know anything about supplementation and what each product does but that's really not my problem

It is fun. I think a lot of us sometimes forget that the active members here are not, by any means, an accurate representation of the supplement using population. I'd venture to say that a lot of us (if not most of us) have our diets on point, at least for the most part. However, based on my experience working in supplement retail, as well as from friends and people I talk to at the gym and in general, MOST people would be better off spending the $2+/day they use on their pre-workout on some meat or eggs, but even then, I can't say that for sure, as there are quite a few variables to consider here. First, some people feel that they NEED something to provide them with a lot of energy to get to the gym; a lot of people workout either very early or after work and are exhausted, and may not even get to the gym if they don't get their stimulant-based supplement in. So, if buying a pre-workout supplement is what it takes to actually get someone into the gym (I'm not saying that it's necessary by any means, only that it ends up being considered a necessity by a lot of people), then it's going to be more valuable than a little extra food/protein.

I don't chase supplements. I chug those bitches down in a high speed domination style with epic background music and then crush any workout those lame non supplementers do. My warm up is their workout!

My nutrition game has been on point for many years, and so has my training. I indulge in supplements to keep from jerking the limp noodle of stagnation.

According to Starbucks customer service Via's caffeine content can range from 130mg to 140mg per packet.

I rarely drink only 8oz of Coffee :)

This!!! I get up at 4:15am & then have a full day of chasing my almost 3 yr old around after I bust my butt in the gym. So, I'm one of those that rarely workouts without some sort of stimulant/pwo.

I find that investing money into supplements helps greatly with keeping a person motivated and focused on the gym. If you are buying supplements which are expensive, you would be a real moron to not work hard and stay commited to a solid workout routine.

And another thing is that you want to try out your new supplements. You can't really do that at home, unless of course you have a gym there.

Unless you're like me.. Bought C4 and was going to work out. I took one scoop, felt nothing, took another scoop, felt nothing. I said F it and went to sleep lol

I remember in my high school weightlifting class, there was one kid who would always take a few scoops of a potent DMAA pre-workout, and then end up having to sit outside the weight room in the South Florida heat for ~90 minutes because he never wore the gym clothes he was supposed to.

To this day, nothing gave me energy and laser-like focus like DMAA pre-workouts have, and after trying DMAA again for the first time in years a few days ago, I can say it's as good as I remember. I just don't want to leave the gym, haha. And, in my personal experience, if I pair it with the right other ingredients, there's no crash, even hours later.

The only thing I feel in C4 is the BA tingle. I'm super sensitive to sensory stuff like that though.

Speaking of supps, I'm ready for a big release coming soon of what's going to be my new staple pwo. Take all my monies!!! :D

What release would this be? I'm interested haha

The new OL Conqu3r Unleashed. I was one of the ones who was lucky enough to sample & review it. OL stepped their game up, IMO. I was a fan of the DGE & I feel like the new formula is a step up.

I'll definitely have to check it out. OL is definitely stepping up their game. they've been putting out some real solid products. Excited for the Phosphas1ze they keep hinting about too

I stopped caring a long time ago about supplements for fitness/workouts other than my few staples. However, I've spent the last 7-8 years really diving into and exploring noots and adaptogens. That is something I love to geek out on.
