Jswain's training log for powerlifting

I know. I literally know what i have to do and can fill out my obliques and "breath into my lower back" like cws cues. I keep it braced during the unrack and even weights heavy for me feel light, but for some reason once i walk it out and get set the weight feels lot heavier and i know ive lost my bracing.

Dude I have the same thing! It's that second brace after the walk out that ****s me

It really sucks lol. Its so deceiving, on the unrack i'm like hell yeah this feels light. Then i walk it out and im like oh sh*# what happened. Damn squats

Thats y deads are my favorite. Just walk up. Big belly of air. Pull the bar off the floor. Simple as that.

So basically you're suggesting i run another RTS cycle. Which i am not objected to by any means. I'd run your lay out above then do comp bench. Then later in the week id either front squat or just squat in sleeves with the mastadon bar to get more work and then pull afterward.

For the record i would only have 7 weeks of training time if i wanted to compete in that meet at my home gym on 9/26. I'm really questioning as to whether thats enough time for me to learn wraps. I dont think itd be a waste to do it even if i only make a small amount of progress on bench or deads before the meet. As i think i can pull more than the 560 if im on again.

I can help you out if you want man. We can talk here or on PMS. I think you can learn them but it'll be a rough 7 weeks of squatting if you're up for it. You have wraps already?

Same. Have to learn to brace, let go of half your air then rebrace is all. Its a timing thing.

This dude is an effin animal. The mountain from GOT. Invalid Link Removed

Just double overhands it lol.

Ha. Ah ****. Didnt see that

I did notice his grip seemed super loose so i was confused, somehow didnt see the straps though lol

In strongman, there are many other events to test your grip. They don't care if you can hang on to your deadlifts. I know as well as anyone, I've won a deadlift event and taken last in a farmer's walk in the same day.

8/2 post comp op day deload

These all felt good. rpe 8-8.5 on the 185. Wasnt strenuous at all.

Rest pause OP

All sets kept to @8 rpe.

100x15 normal 2 arm eccentrics

Rev cable curl ss/ w/ SA grenade cable tri extension

60x12 -> 60x10
80x12 -> 60x10
90x12 -> 60x8

Was bull****ting with one of the strongmen basically this entire workout. He was more talking to me the other way around, but it was probably a good thing to keep me in a more relaxed deload mindset. Back at it tomorrow with some skwaaaats.

Also, i might have an issue. I cant find those junk wraps anywhere. I've been looking off and on since this morning. Lou and I (mainly Lou, i cant take the credit) worked out a plan for this meet and i'm supposed to use the wraps tomorrow to start getting a feel for them and then squat again later this week with the wraps Sean was generous enough to hand me down to me.

Hopefully i can figure out where i put this pair. All i remember is rolling them up and putting then somewhere, but i dont know where

Edit: found them. Didnt dig deep enough in my gym bag. Weird when you actually put stuff where it belongs.

Also just practiced wrapping up, they seem short. I dont have enough material to wrap like duffin did in that video. Maybe im not wrapping tight enough. Just saw that they are x-sport wraps...lol.

Todays lift was pretty straightforward.

Warmup as usual

SQUAT: 5sets x 3rep @8

Work up to 300 beltless in sleeves

350x3 in wraps and belt
400x5x3 in wraps and belt. Rpe ranged between @7-8. First set was at 8. Next one @7. 3rd @7.5. 4th @8. 5th @7.5.

Ran out if time before work. I underestimated how long it would take me to wrap up before sets. The gym is closed by the time i'll get off work tonight so maybe ill try and get in tomorrow to make up the volume i missed.

I hate squats. Lol. I dont think the wraps really did much of anything for me today to be honest (probably due to the next point). Obviously too early to tell since the were the crappy xsport wraps and are hopefully only 2m. I dont have enough material to wrap like that video showed. We'll see once the titaniums get here.

I'll have the titanium's out today or tomorrow man

No worries man. Friday i just have some "speed work" lined up with the wraps then some sleeved squats so its not a huge deal if i dont get them til next week.

You are not gonna get that much out of them the first go around or two. That's why I have you in them so much. You need to practice and learn the groove.

Yeah i wasnt really expecting 50lbs or anything on them but I thought maybe a rep or 2 increase would be there. Don't worry, i wasnt expecting crazy jumps immediately.

^That. They're a pain in the ass. Gotta relearn to squat lol

I think i needed to do that anyway, lol.

One thing to note on my lift today actually. I think it was my 3rd set on my last rep. I almost fell backwards on my ascent when i got about 3/4 the way up. I've never experienced that before and its weird since i was in my OLY shoes and id think i would have the opposite tendency in them. Something i'm noting for myself to keep track of in the future.

They're right. First time I tried wraps I got 20lbs MAX out of the lillebridge wraps cranked down hard lol

So weird. They really are a piece of gear, no doubt.

Log is still going strong! :)

Yeah, it is nice to have for sure. I'm really glad i decided to make one. Getting comments and feedback from you guys is awesome.

Excited for your wrapped experience. Keep posting your learning experience. :)

I will man. I'll try my best to take notes on what i feel, etc. One thing to note already is that it is pretty freaking uncomfortable on my upper calves and back of my knee lol.

Would it be pointless to wear sleeves under the wraps?

You don't want the wraps to slide. Could have catastrophic results. Bruising is normal, bleeding is not out if the question.

Do you chalk before wrapping too?

I think the amount of leg hair i have acts like chalk. Those things arent sliding anywhere unless they rip out every hair between my upper shin and lower quad.

The Inzer Gripperz have rubber strands woven into it so it doesn't move even a smidge. And rips the **** out of your leg hair lol

Eekkkkkk... Reminds me of the time I used hot wax on my ex down there. Haha, it took us almost 5 hours to rip it off.

That. Sounds. Miserable. Lol. Does chalking knees help keep them from getting ripped out?

Since I've somewhat hijacked the thread already, I have another Q. Someone told me in here u should've wear sleeves for DL cause the bar catches, however, I see all kinds of sleeve wear-age on IG for DL. Yay or nay?

He deserves that for letting you wax his "down there". What the hell was he thinking.

Hijack away man. I dont mind. I like seeing the dialogue in here.

I say nay, unless your knees are bothering you and the sleeves help and allow you to deadlift. Otherwise IMO they're in the way.

Nay it is. They shake on max singles, but no pain or discomfort.

I agree with this. On days I deadlift after squats I roll my sbds down so they are out of the way.

Sitting at like 1400 calories right now. Looks like a chipotle and peanut butter out of the jar for dinner kind of night.

Doooood, that's a good night lol

Lol. But is it really? I miss the dinners i used to make in college. 1lb of chicken, 6 servings of jasmine rice, peas, jalapenos, stubbs barbecue sauce all in a bowl. 1 more month and i am out of my girlfriends parent's basement. To say i cant wait is an understatement. I also can finally cook myself my usual breakfast. 5 eggs over easy and 2 pieces of bacon or protein pancakes.

I'm drooling thinking about breakfast.
