Turff49 Quest for Success

Missed this mornings workout due to being up at various times over night for work related phone calls. I'll squeeze my delt or back workout in this evening.

They need to be taught a lesson...

I have crews working over night in restaurants. Remodeling the kitchens and have everything set back up so restaurants never have to lose a minute of business.

Damn work! Don't they know it's interfering with your gains! Oh well, you have to pay for that new Rogue rack!

Nine sets of fronts! That's some volume there. Yikes!

Sound planning to make that happen I'm sure

Yeah, what's odd is I spent 30 years in the environmental/hazardous materials field as a scientist/manager and here I am doing something totally different. Managing subcontractors and dealing with clients is pretty much the same in all industries though.

I suppose when you think about it, managing people/things is all the same, if you are organized and know what you are doing.

Haha! I'm just good at "winging it"!

Nice work on those front squats! Then 45 reps with 25lbs on curls OUCH!!!!!!!

Yesterday was a travel day. This morning, not much to write about but the gym did have 15, 25, and 30lb db's. No bench though.
So I did:
8 sets of side laterals using the 15's and 25's
8 sets of front laterals using both sets
8 sets of rear delt flyes using the 25's and 30's
6 sets of standing db's presses using the 30's
6 sets of curls using the 30's
6 sets of tricep kickbacks using the 25's and 30's

A day full of events with the company, dinner and drinks, and then a baseball game tonight(on the company). Travel back tomorrow so Sunday workout will be brutal - Chest and Legs...

Sounds like it'll be a nice relaxing day! Enjoy!

No handstand shoulder presses? I am surprised or would that mess with your back? Looks like you made one hell of a workout there. You should really get some Elite bands to take with you too for stuff like this since you are out and about so much. An orange band under each foot with that 30lbs would have made for a hefty press.

Great work Brian, both on the crazy amount of front squats and making the best while traveling!! Enjoy your ballgame! Sounds like fun!!

Where is the ball game? Good use of what you had on hand!

Double A Tennessee Smokies. Company has a sky box at the stadium...lol. Gotta start somewhere with Skyboxes I guess!

Yeah, it was a great trip. Just no time to do anything. Then on my trip back I had to take the long route and drop some supplies off at different locations. Still, a good company bonding meeting and events. Glad I didn't have to pay the bar tab...lol. I know one guy drank at least 40 beers himself... and it wasn't me. I only had 2 beers.

Today's workout is kind of divided up: chest, cardio, back.
Started this morning with chest and honestly I wasn't feeling it. Maybe the bad food Friday coupled with being on the road for 10+ hours yesterday and didn't hit my macros the whole time I was gone.

Incline bench press
135 x 10
135 x 10
185 x 15
185 x 12
205 x 12
205 x 10
225 x 6 - these felt like 255
225 x 3 - couldn't hit the 4th wtf

Incline DB flyes
50 x 10
50 x 12
50 x 15
50 x 12
50 x 10

Well, here is where my cardio came in. Wife asked if I was going to mow today...
So 2hrs of push mowing and no I don't use a self propelled or a riding mower. I'm a cheapskate and the self propels are to slow in that mode. So mowed and weed-eated the whole yard. Ate a quick lunch, showered, and took another PWO drink...lol

Short back workout but very intense. Ok, everyone is on the 1 arm BB rows supersetted with the Meadows. So, why not...again!
My ss went like this for each set
Left 1 arm row
Right 1 arm row
Left meadows
Right meadows
No break between the 4.
Only 90-120 seconds between sets

45 x 10
70 x 10
90 x 10
115 x 10
125 x 8
Technically that's 20 sets of rows I guess.
Was going for 135 but I was toast. Just no energy left whatsoever.

Yup, great rowing. Imma try it your way next.

Screw push mowing... It takes almost 2 hours to weed-eat my yard and another 45 to trim bushes.

40 beers? Holy crap. When I was in my twenties I think I popped 20 once during my divorce.

Sounds like that guy needs some Liver Repair.

You southerners with outdoor power racks staring at you while mowing grass! Wait! Great idea!!!! Nice session as always Brian!

Seems my morning workouts here lately haven't been as intense as my evening workouts...

Today was Arms and it was pretty short. Cut volume down so my arms aren't taxed tomorrow for OHP day.

Standing DB curls with Dips every other set
30 x 12
35 x 12
40 x 10
45 x 10

Dips
BW x 10
BW x 15
BW x 20
BW x 20

EZ bar curl with Skullcrushers every other set
70 x 12
80 x 10
90 x 10
100 x 10

Skull crushers
70 x 15
80 x 10
90 x 10
100 x 10

Arms had a good pump but not too taxed. Short workout with 20 minutes of bike after I got home.

Maybe not as much volume, but still effective.

Oh, very effective. Kept the weights heavy but left off about 8-10 sets of exercises I normally do on arm day. Probably needed it anyway as I hit arms a few times last week. And the biceps get a workout on the one arm bb rows regardless of how much you concentrate on the lats. Next week I'll hit the arms really heavy though.

Nice arm work! I agree, arms are involved to a great degree in so many other lifts! (I think that's why they're my least fav to train separately) It was very smart of you to not over tax them before OHP...although your OHP's are always insane- I don't think any of us would notice if you lifted more human #'s ;)

You look super awesome!

Shoulder day with a PR!

HS OHP
110 x 15
200 x 10
250 x 10
310 x 3 PR
Drop sets from here - no rest
250 x 5
200 x 5
160 x 5
110 x 10

Side lateral raise pause reps(3 second)
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10

Front lateral raise pause reps(3 second)
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10
20 x 10

Rear delt machine
105 x 10
105 x 10
120 x 10
135 x 10

Shrugs - Pause reps
200 x 10
290 x 10
380 x 10
470 x 10

My shoulders are fried but this was by far one of my best shoulder workouts. PR, drop sets, pause reps, I think I incorporated everything into this one.

Weeee, there's that PR! Nice Brian.

Simply awesome! The arms and chest workout would have had me sore for a week! Congratulations on the super heavy OHP!! Wow!!

The good thing about having weights and a rack at home is you can just go get another quick workout in!

Front Squats
135 x 5 x 2
185 x 5 x 2
205 x 5 x 2
225 x 5 x 2
I'm ready for supper now!! Lol

super heavy indeed! I'm over here thinking I am kicking ass when I can hit 185 for 5 on the OHP. :( Damned impressive

Nice front squats too! At least I can compete somewhat with ya on those ;) Did legs last night and worked up to 205 x5 myself. Totally annihilated me .....whereas you probably consider it a "light" quad session. You are a true inspiration my friend. Keep it up

Thanks TK.
Can't really compare HS OHP to barbell OHP. On HS, yes, I'm pushing that much weight but it is in a somewhat fixed arc(path). Where as with a barbell it can move in any direction. Realistically I'm probably good for 225 with a barbell on seated OHP as I can hit 185 for reps on BTN. My rack at home just isn't set up right to do regular .

185 x 5 is pretty solid man.

Thanks TK.

I'd say you're better for more than a two plate single. It's different, but you'd get that stability in and the shoulders would take over.

Back day.
Seems my rest periods were a little longer today. Maybe from the lower Cala catching up with me. Just seemed it took longer to catch my breath...

HS ISO lateral row pronated grip with squeeze each rep
110 x 15
200 x 10
250 x 10
290 x 10
340 x 8

One arm DB rows
80 x 10
100 x 10
120 x 10
140 x 6

Medium grip pull downs
100 x 10
120 x 10
130 x 10
150 x 10
170 x 10
190 x 10 underhand grip
210 x 10 underhand grip

Shrugs
200 x 10
290 x 10
380 x 10
470 x 10

And my back and lats are thrashed. Need some food now...

Your volume! The horror! Jealous of you as I'm writing this, all out of breath from my rows!

Funny you say that, I had the same issue today with catching my breath.

Strong like bull, Brian.

Funny, must be allergies- can't be age! Lol

I refuse to look at age(yet) as hindering my workouts. At least I keep telling myself that anyway!

Those underhands at 210 must have gotten tough.. very strong.

Doing them after all the rows really made them tough and doing pause reps made it even tougher. My upper back is still toast right now along with my forearms. I feel this workout until I sleep, then I should be good in the am.

Always a good feeling none the less. If find after all that work, its a struggle to not let the biceps come into play with the underhands.

Must be something going on because I too have had issues with recovery the past couple workouts. Just seemed more easily winded and not quite as much energy as usual. Powered through though ..... I write down my training plan before each session and kinda force myself with the mindset that I wrote it down .... so I gotta do it.
