Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Lol, completely forgot it was April 1st. But come on, mark is smarter than this. He's gotta know ain't nobody buying protein for $65.

I don't see him making a profit off it. I'm sure he will get enough big names to post pictures of them drinking it to talk a few people into buying it.

Eh, I jumped the gun. Looks like his oldest video is 10 months ago.

I couldn't do his programs. The specificity is too much for someone like me

Hm I just browsed over what he thought of other programe.

I tend to take advice from anyone smaller than me with a large grain of salt (and I'm not exactly Lilliebridge here). The guy is really respectful (and thoughtful) in his analysis and reviews of the programs, and it's a great way to get a strong feel for a program without plunking down cash to even get an idea of what it's about. But he tends to lay everything out like it's fact, or gospel, and really it's just his personal thoughts.

All this crap about natty lifters needing more specificity & frequency. Motherf*cker if you can't handle benching 4x/wk on 2 grams of gear/wk you're not going to be any better off trying to survive it on a test level of 650. Gear doesn't repair joints, not even EQ or Deca. It really is a lot of quality info for the beginning lifter to get going in the right direction, but it's mixed with a healthy dose of bropinion.

He whines a lot about everything that doesn't use RPE because it doesn't give exact instructions to autoregulate. Meanwhile Tuscherer and every successful powerlifter out there will pretty much tell you that autoregulation is something that's going to have to be learned at some point for success. You just learn it through time in the gym. Rules or no, it always comes down to a mix of experience and intuition (and honesty). Things newbies will always struggle with.

I agree with 90% of your post, Hyde. Disagree with the izzy is smaller, so you take his advice with a grain of salt part.

Look to other sports. Some of the best coaches were no more than mediocre (or worse) athletes themselves. High level athletes typically make poor coaches. They've gotten to where they have for reasons other than conceptual understanding of the game.

Izzy's program review series is very informative, although he has a problem (multiple problems) with 90% of the programs he reviews it seems like.

Ive experienced this first hand. Im by no means a blessed lifter and ive had to work to perfect my form, programming, diet, recovery, and mobility to make it to where i am now. However schwab is one of the worst coaches ive seen about all of that except for programming. However he is a one size fits all programmer and has no idea how to work with weaknesses ect. I quit training with him early due to my realizing he had nothing to offer to me after about a month. I train at a well known competitive powerlifting gym, world known even. Yet im the one almost everyone comes to for advice on everything and anything.

True on all fronts. And LS, I agree with you on the coaching.

TBH I'm probably going to stick with the 1020L framework after this meet. Except for my standard post-meet "200lbs of chain on every bar" training.

I smell an ebook. "The 200lbs of Chain on Every Bar Method". Yours for the low low price of $77 in kindle only. I'd like to see you do a Gauntlet day. Cambered bar, green over the plates, twisted up blue on the low part of the bar, and 200lbs of chains. Off the box. 5 dubs and two heavy singles. Saw a Compound guy get 5 plates on instagram. I'm glad I wasn't in town for that one.

You can relay this point to all sports. A lot of ex players that become coaches are not the stars. It's the guys who had to learn every bit of knowledge they could to stay in there respective leagues(like Derrick fisher and Steve Kerr this year in the NBA). Yet people like Jordan and Kobe will likely not be coaches, bc even if they have the knowledge that level of expectation on players to live up to themselves would wear people down.

Izzy is like a Steve Kerr to me. Granted!!!! I do think some of his analysis is opinion, but a lot is well thought out and backed by facts or strong anecdote.

Sorry for blogging Sean. Just something that always comes to my mind in coaching talks.

I think my best ****ed up combination is 400+130+Averages x4. 5 plates would be insane with all that crap.

Week 1
SSB High Box Squat with 200% of 1RM against 2 heavy bands+miniband+200 chain under 4 reverse heavy bands

The issue with high level athletes is: they just do. Most have never had to think about how to do X, Y, or Z. They just did it. That's why they're elite athletes. And they have a hard time understanding why someone can't do X, Y, or Z. Let alone provide meaningful instructional explanation. Last post, I'm done. Just wanted to add that

Well you got what I was trying to say without the basketball stuff(that may or may not of made sense here) lol

Lol it made sense, just added my spin to it. I plan on coaching swimming until the day I die so it's not the first time I've thought about all this junk.

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I'm hoping I don't have to listen to Smelly the whole time.

Want to watch, but still trying to sort out how I feel about $65 protein. :p

That is some ridiculous protein prices...and isn't that a conflict of interest with BSN/ON/natures best/ABB that he is sponsored by?

Ooh, il have to watch that video tomorrow.

$60 protein? No thanks. Reminds me of that BeachBody nonsense. Their tub of Shakeology is >$100.

I'm not saying great coaches need to be great athletes. But accomplishments matter, and that's what's I was referring to really. Louie Simmons wasn't the greatest powerlifter ever. But you're damn right I'd clean his toilet and massage his old feet if he'd let me train under him. He's got the results.

Bought tubs of that and cell tech. Became Sean in one night and destroyed all his maxes. Pretty craycray fellas

Hes got results for geared lifters. Im still waiting to see him produce a top level raw guy. Im not knocking his methods at all. Its just the trend the great raw lifters do the opposite of conjugate pretty much.

Oof haven't been to the gym for a real session since Monday. Hopefully I can go tonight around 9pm to pull my last doubles. Monday I'm hoping to hit my squat attempts.

I've been able to maintain 225-227 at least.

Anyone ever use Evomuse Dryuretics (sp?)? I have a bottle that came with Myosynergy. Contemplating using it for the water cut.

Forgot to mention it so you didn't miss it haha Wednesday night. Just got home today. All is well.

I'm stocked up on placenta, pregnant woman urine, and breast milk so except some big PR's from me.

Happy and healthy I'm guessing... You're not going to go the way of the bodybuilding and start sucking down breast milk are u lol

Congratulations to you and wife on the baby! Boy, girl? Second child, right?
