Curious how far out everyone meal preps?

I usually cook food that will cover my meals for the next two or three days but decided to push it a little longer and cook for five or six days out.

By day five and six I didn't trust my chicken and turkey and ended up tossing it to be safe. I'm not really sure how long cooked meats stay good for.

I usually prep for about 4-5 days at a time. Most cooked food is good for close to a week in the fridge or you could freeze meals of you cook larger quantities. Then just take it out the night before.

For me it depends on the food. Something basic - like brown rice or pasta - maybe 3 days. But meats and stuff. A day, maybe 2 days max. I find to eat well and often - you have to enjoy the food you're eating - this means fresh food, and variety. I start to heave when I've had 5 day old dry as fuark stinky chicken lol.

I prep enough for myself and my wife to eat 3 or 4 days worth. Anything more and she starts (or says) to notice a "taste"

I would go 3 days, 4 at the very most in the fridge. Even the food in the fridge can pick up bacteria so make sure you store it properly in good containers.
I will usually make a bunch of ground meat, burgers, fish, chicken breast and immediately freeze what I won't eat in the next couple of days. I'll season it after I defrost it.
Make sure you buy good quality, fresh stuff and it will be good.

I would not trust chicken past 3-4 days personally. I would not run the risk of food poisoning.
Any kind of meat usually holds a shelf life of 1.5-2 days max to be safe.
Something like bulk potatoes or rice different story.

See i cook on the weekends for monday through friday because i dont have time to cook during the week. So'll cook all my chicken fish and lean ground beef on sunday and would finish all my prepped meals on friday. so i'd say the 5th day is the max for me.

worst come to worst cook for 3 days, throw the other 2 days in the freezer and pull on like tuesday to let them thaw back out
Ihave seen so many people who travel for a living and have food get so much sickness due to food poisioining due to cooking food for too long.
always better to be on the safer side.

My aim is usually to cook enough on Sat/Sunday to last until Wed or Thursday, then cook enough to last until Sat/Sun - so twice a week. I have, however, cooked up way too much before and had chicken that was still fine after 8 days. I was skeptical - but I've done a bit of research and even at that point, if it was handled properly and doesn't small...it is unlikely to make you sick. Still, 6-8 day old chicken isn't my favorite and I try to avoid it.

Thank you everyone for all the opinions and suggestions! You're the best!

I think I'll stick to prepping for only 2 or 3 days out. As Bob stated, the last thing I want to do is get sick. Plus there is nothing worse than dried out chicken lol.

i cook every sunday for most of my food, i cook enough protein to last me till wednesday then i cook just protein again for the rest of the week

Here is a pro tip:

Cook in the crock pot or slow cooker, a bunch of chicken for the week. When it is done, leave 2-3 days worth out and put the rest in the freezer. Portion the freezer portions into 2-3 days worth and pull it out as you need it. Repeat.

I'm a Sunday and Wednesday guy. I prep my Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday meals on Sunday and my Thursday, Friday meals on Wednesday evening. Saturdays and Sundays are a little looser on the meals as I can cook them at home and have plenty of time. I usually mix it up. Chicken for one half of the week and lean beef for the second. Takes some of the monotony out of meal prep. I also usually alternate between eggs, oatmeal, and protein pancakes for breakfasts as I usually eat 2 meals a day at work.
