Ok from the articles I've been reading, androgens shouldn't raise SHBG, only estrogens. So keeping estrogens in check should keep SHBG from getting too high as well?

Estrogen binds to sex hormone binding globulin as well.

Androgens an estrogens are sex hormones.

They both should raise SHBG. Any reason for wanting to keep it low.....?

High SHBG is not a good thing, so best to keep it lower in normal range.
