Sleeping and Recovering with Finaflex's G8 & BCAA+SAA

Same here on the carbs before bed. Really messes up my sleep so I try to taper down carb intake as the day progresses.
Same here!

Day 2

Slept pretty well last night. As you can see, this was my highest percentage of deep sleep since graphing. I hit legs hard today. I'm already tired and G8 will probably knock me out! Tomorrow is an off day, but I'm going in for an hour of cardio before having to sit at school all day. The struggle of being a commuter with a 1 hour commute lol

Training

Back Squat (3-5 minutes rest)

105x5
130x5
155x3
180x3
210x3
235x4
180x4 (pause squats)

I dropped my training max for legs last week for this cycle of 5/3/1. I was barely hitting the reps I needed too. I think it has to do with two things. One, the cardio and two, I got Nike Romelos. I had the cheap Adidas weightlifting shoes. With the Nikes, I go a lot deeper. I'd rather go deeper and have to drop the weight. I was hitting just under parallel before, now my hamstrings touch my calves,

Barbell Hip Thrusts (60-90 seconds rest)

135x8
145x7,7

Fourth or fifth week doing these.

Squat Press (60-90 seconds rest)

420x10,10,10

It is a leg press, but not a sled

Lying Hamstring Curls (60-90 seconds rest)

85x12,10
90x8

Leg Extension (60-90 seconds rest)

130x9,9,9

Romanian Deadlift (60-90 seconds rest)

135x10
145x8,8

Hip Abduction Machine (60 seconds rest)

145x8,8,8

Standing Calf Raise (45 second rest)

175x10,10,9,8

Double digit % increase in deep sleep. Very nice.

This is what I wanted to see. With the anecdotal evidence showing more dreaming and more vivid dreaming with G8 I was wondering where the percentages would lie with regard to REM vs. Deep sleep cycles while on G8. It would appear that deep sleep increased for you while REM sleep remained rather static when compared to sleep before G8 and this graph showing sleep with G8. We all know its the deep sleep cycles that promote growth and healing rather than REM so this is encouraging data. It looks like G8 provides more/longer deep sleep cycles as well as increases the "efficiency" of REM without having to increase the length or frequency or REM sleep cycles. Truly an amazing product ;)

I was impressed with the end of the graph fr last night. Usually, that is when I have the majority of my light sleep. However, I was in a deep sleep prior to waking up. Maybe that is why I felt more refreshed upon wakening. I think sleep will get better to as the log goes on.

Maybe that is why I sleep so bad at night, I normally have a high carb meal before bed. I also sweat my ass off at night!

I sleep very well having lots of carbs pre bed. As you can see in this thread, many do not. I think it is a personal preference.

57% deep sleep... that says it all.

That's nothing...check my latest graph in the next post. :D

Day 3''

Nothing to report today. Did an hour of fasted cardio with my BCAA+SAA; it is so damn tasty. I also did some ab work.

Only 100g of carbs today with 234g of protein and the rest in fat with 2000 cals.

Here is last night's graph. Remember how I said a few days ago that I know when I'm in a deep sleep due to drooling. I had drool last night!

Looks like it's treating you nicely. Hopefully it will continue to trend upward.

I always drool on G8...

Nice increase in Deep Sleep cycles 63% !! Drool is just another indicator of good solid deep sleep ;) G8 makes me drool from time to time also.

I wish it would help me stop sweating... night sweating mofo here.

I sleep with the window open and only a sheet for covers .... my lady is bundled up with three blankets because she gets too cold. But ... no night sweats for me anymore :)

yeah right, my wifes doin the same most of the time lol
theres a fine line between too cold and too hot for me. sux.. that's probably half my sleeping problem right there.

Day 4

Graph doesn't reflect it, but I slept like a rock last night. More and more drool is flowing every night. Surprised how well today's morning training session went since my stomach was bothering me. I had my head in the toilet before I left my house, nothing happened, but I thought I was going to get sick. It went away after 30 minutes or so.

Training

Flat Barbell Bench (3-5 minutes rest)

85x5
105x5
125x3
145x3
165x3
185x5
145x4 (Pause)

I asked a random guy to spot me on my 185 set. I felt like I could have gotten a 6th rep, it would have been a grinder, but I could tell he would have touched the bar. I hate when people do, so I decided to stop so I knew I got the 5 reps with no help.

Incline Barbell Bench (60-90 seconds rest)

135x8
140x6,6

Incline DB Bench (60-90 seconds rest)

50x10,10,9

Bench was set as low as possible

Dips (60-90 seconds rest)

Bodyweight + 15 lbs x 11,9,9

I had that same feeling yesterday, and then last night was coughing like I still smoke cigarettes. Today, nothing. Don't know what it was

Stomach issue was isolated to that one incident, weird. I am going to post yesterday's update and today's together in the next post. It is hard for me to really get on the forums on Fridays. Also, I thought of something yesterday. The deep sleep percentage could be better or worse depending on how much total sleep I get. For example, night A I can sleep for 8 hours total and deep for 4 which would be 50% and night be may be 7 hours of sleep with 4 hours of deep sleep so the percentage would be higher that night, but the deep sleep was the same. I am going to add up the total time of deep sleep from two weeks ago and this week, find the average, and then compare.

Day 5

Training

Deadlift (3-5 minutes rest)

135x5
170x5
205x3
235x3
270x3
305x5
235x8

No bounce

Bodyweight Pullups (60-90 seconds rest)

6,6,6

Done with the widest grip possible and from a dead hang every rep

Hammerstrength TBar Row Machine (60-90 seconds rest)

45x10,10,10

I am parallel with the ground on these

V Attachment Pulldown (60-90 seconds rest)

I like your scientific approach. Looking forward to seeing what you find out ;)

Day 7

Just did some cardio and abs today. As far as the graphs go, those are in the past. I had a trial version of the app. I knew some features were lost after the first two weeks, but I thought the graphing stayed. I was wrong. I think it is only 5 dollars or so, but I'm pinching every penny since I probably will not work next semester and will live off my vacation pay that I'll get paid out when I put my two weeks in.

Anyways, sleep was good last night. I only woke up twice and have been waking up 3-4 times to use the bathroom since I'm consuming water prior to sleeping. I woke up at my normal time, even with the extra hour. Drool was present and the past 3-4 nights, I have had odd dreams. One that I remember is I was locked in an apartment with a random cat, that is all I can recall from that dream.

I don't blame you on not buying the app. It was a nice addition anyhow, and it lasted long enough to see the improvement with G8.

So, did the cat survive,,?

I had a weird dream last night that reoccurred three times.. not the same dream but the exact same place and people just at different times.. kinda like watching SoA if I remember..

I ask my kids to get me an activity / sleep tracker for Christmas like the Fibit or Vivofit. Anyone have any experience with these?

I can only remember trying to escape with the cat. We both got out, but I can't remember anything after that lol

Standing Side Dumbbell Raises (60-90 seconds rest)

22.5x10,9,8

Day 9

I'm not going to dose G8 tonight. The past few nights I have been suffering from cluster headaches. I don't know if G8 is causing it, but I am not dosing to see if that is the culprit.

Nice lifts.... hope your head feels better..

Me too.

Make sure your also getting in plenty of fluids throughout the day also.

Cluster headaches have nothing to do with fluids. Look them up, they are interesting. I did not have any last night. I am going to dose G8 tonight to see if they come back.

They look, interesting....

One side of my face was looking just like that picture the other day. My buddy in class was like holy **** are you alright.

I did not have one last night AND I dosed G8. I just think it might be heat. The weather here has been hectic for the past week. Going from hot to cold. However sleep was still not that great last night. I will explain in my update.

Day 11

Sleep was not that great last night. The bottom inside of my right foot was pretty sore for whatever reason. It almost felt like the tendons/muscles were over stretched and it was cauing discomfort. I fell asleep for about 30 minutes and then woke up. I ended falling back asleep for another hour or so, and woke up again. I took an Advil PM, which I am not supposed to take, but I could not fall asleep. I woke up and felt alright. I hope it doesn't bother me tonight as well.

Training

Flat Barbell Bench (3-5 minutes rest)

85x5
105x5
125x3
155x5
175x3
195x3 + 1 additional spotted rep

Incline Barbell Bench (60-90 seconds rest)

140x7,7,6

Incline DB Bench (60-90 seconds rest)

50x10,9,9

Bench was set as low as possible. One rep less than last week, but I was focusing on slow negatives

Dips (60 seconds rest)

Bodyweight x 8,8,9

Didn't do them weighted this week. I decided to go as wide as possible, the bars are shaped like a V, to really get that stretch in the chest. I didn't want to risk going weighted the first time going that wide and blow out my shoulders.

Incline Flys (60-90 seconds rest)

30x9,8,8

Seated Easy Bar Overhead Extensions (60-90 seconds rest)

60x8,8,8,8

Rope Pressdowns (60 seconds rest)

22.5x9,9,9,8

Regarding my foot, I think it might be plantar fasciitis. I have to work on stretching my foot. I think that is the problem.

How's the foot feeling today?

I've dealt with plantar fasciitis in the past. Not fun. one thing that seemed to work for me was to massage the area. I simply put a golf ball on the floor and placed my foot on it with the ball in the affected area and rolled it back and forth with varying pressure. It hurts at first but it seems to help loosen up the area and speed the healing process. I am not a Dr. (and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night) but it worked for me. Just a thought ;)

TK, I've actually been using a tennis ball and doing the same thing. I've also been flexing my toes up, if that makes sense, to try and stretch everything out. However, I do not think it is PF after further reading. Since the pain is only at the arch, for about two hours at night, I think it might be an acute form of Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome which is often confused with PF. TTS, from my reading, can be due to an injury in the ankle or the foot itself. I think that maybe all the cardio + walking at class + standing on my feet all day while student teaching has pounded the area and it just simply needs rest.

With all that said, the past two nights I have not had any issues at night with the headaches or the foot pain. Friday and Saturday night were the only two nights that I did not have any issues and I must say G8 has knocked me out for those two nights. I slept 30 minutes longer than I normally would yesterday and didn't want to get up this morning when my alarm went off.

Training yesterday and today was just 65 minutes of cardio. I cannot wait until the aggressive mini cut is over. Friday evening I hit back. I got 320 on deadlifts for my one plus set. Everything else has been going up weight wise or rep wise as well. Recovery has been spot on too, even only eating 2,000 cals with all the cardio I've been doing.

Sunday night I slept like a rock! I only woke up once to use the bathroom and usually wake up twice sometimes even three times. When I got up, I really had to use the bathroom. The fact that I was able to sleep through that was impressive. Last night, I got one of those headaches again. The headache portion wasn't as bad as last week, but the rash/itch was worse. I am going to get some benadryl later today. Reading about it, it could be allergies, stress, body temp (which shouldn't be an issue now), or even cortisol which could be the case due to this aggressive mini cut. I'm thinking allergies which is why I am going to get the benadryl. I'm going to look for non drowsy stuff so it doesn't interfere with my log and the stuff makes me groggy the next morning.

I got some non drowsy allergy medicine, hopefully that works. Today's training session went great, even though I screwed up on squats. I write everything in a notebook and was looking at the wrong page for legs. I was looking at a page from 2 or 3 5/3/1 cycles before when I was able to squat heavier. My second set I hit 225 for 5 reps, I was only supposed to do 200 for 5 and my last set, my 5+ set, was supposed to be 225. So basically, I warmed up heavier and my first and second sets were heavier. I hit 225 for 7 on my 5+ set. I also performed roman deadlifts a little differently today. I usually just push my hips back until I the plates almost touch the ground. Today, I rested the bar on the ground every rep. I had a slight bend in my knees so I was still hitting the hamstrings. It makes it so much harder to not have that rebound effect. My hamstrings will be sore tomorrow!!

actually with a Romanian dead lift your back should be locked in and use only the hips to lower the weight while resting the bar against your shins in the bottom range of the movement.. and no touching the bar to the ground and no bouncing.. this is a very controlled (advanced) lift. never break the curve in your low back the entire lift.. you shouldn't see the bar go past upper mid shin if your doing these properly. the tension should never leave your hams and glutes

Sounds right to me

What you described above is identical to my new-found (2y) allergy problem.

The itch in my eyes and skin is a huge annoyance, and I still haven't found anything to 100% prevent it. The headaches for me only happen 2 months out of the year, but are so severe I can barely workout. The pressure is just unbearable.

The goal to find the right medicine for it, for me, is still ongoing. I am right now using a generic fexofenadine. It works as well as anything else has (zyrtec, Allegra, and whatever else big name products). Claritin did nothing for me.

None of this may apply to you, but just sharing my issue. I wish I had known it was allergies before I went through months of screwing with my diet/supps.

no problem ant.. its been exceptional so far! hope everything is ok
