Liftandswim's Log

Was sick the past two days. Felt meh today. So I was iffy going into today's training, but I was pleased with the end result.

Gym closes at 10. So that's likely all I'll be able to fit in these next few weeks. I'll make up for it with some extra assistance on Sundays.

Thoughts:
Squats moved well. Everything felt pretty light. No doubt I could have hit 365 for 4-5, but I'm sticking to the goal weights/reps I've scheduled ahead of time. Patience.

405 here I come.

Stay strong AM.

Nice work looked good I'd say u were good for 3-4 at 365 based on speed and form

Definitely. For whatever reason, I lost tightness on rep 2 and just kinda "fell" into the hole. If you watch it again, you'll see what I mean. Another reason I called the set.

Squats looked good...your gonna hit 405 when you try it and then immediately wonder why you didn't put more on the bar. ;)

Heck yeah!! Great job!!

Awesome squatting. Really make that weight look easy! Makes me wish I could still squat...

And for RegisterJr, notice how he kicks his hips back before he starts down. This is what I was talking about. When I use to squat that first movement their sets everything in place for being able to break parallel going down. Front squats will help you get that movement down easier or did for me anyway.

And for RegisterJr.

I had to go compare the vids.

Got it. Need more booty.

I'll play with fronts tomorrow.

Haven't had time to listen to the entire playlist, but I'm a fan of Dr. Israetel and this seems like some good info for anyone interested in programming. Some of it's common sense, but the ordering of the priorities and the detail in which he discusses some of the topics is cool.

Here's the link:

Deads moved fast-ish, but felt like 1000lbs. Wtf. Not good. PR's nonetheless. I'm realizing I'm slowly creeping beyond my noob gains stage. Wahhhh.

Rest of the workout was taxing just because of how tired I was. Got through it though.

I'll come back Saturday ready to slay some weight.

Critiques welcomed, as always. Stay strong AM.

Nice PR's. They looked good.

I actually thought you were going to fly away at first...

Look strong think maybe u had 1 more Your form looks really good at least from that angle

Yeah at least one more, but like I said I felt like crap for whatever reason.

That angle makes everything look good. I need to get a side angle one of these days.

Form looked good. It probably felt heavier than usual bc you just maxed. All out effort on deads tend to really stick with us.

nice squats/deads.. you were probably still feeling a bit from the squats 2 days before. squats always kill me for deads, not so much the other way around.

Thanks, capo!

Squats are easy for me. I swear I could squat every day (I say that, but you'll never catch me trying it lol). Deads are a different story. They wear me the hell out!

You gotta smolov at least once man lol. I can squat more often than i can deadlift thats forsure, mostly because if I'm not 100% I can't deadlift for shiit.

Good workout today. PR'ed on bench after a bunch of squatting, can't complain. Not much else to say.

Critiques welcomed.

Stay strong AM.

Pretty impressive! Setting a pr on bench after all that squatting is awesome. Pressing looked strong too, no hesitation.

Note:

I think my next cycle is going to include a good amount of close grip work. Gonna grab a slingshot for Christmas too. Realizing that I can just about power anything off the chest and my sticking point is in the mid-range/lockout.

Good idea.

Which one are you gonna get?

Probably the reactive slingshot. I've read it's the most versatile. Thoughts?

It's the only one I've ever tried. I read it's good for not-so-strong benchers and for bypassing shoulder issues so I got that.

I have a Titan Ram but I can barely touch 225 in it, so it's good for a big overload.

Nice bench vid and squats L&S.

My shoulders are as healthy as can be (knock on wood). And I'd like to think I'm decent at benching.

Maybe I'll consider something else. Especially considering I'm looking for lockout overload.

Decisions, decisioms.

Thanks, sean.

Maybe just the original? I think they break it up by poundage you bench.

I prefer the reactive for raw strength. It still gives plenty of overload but the material isn't so strong to cause you to overtuck and it still allows you to feel the weight. I usually add 10% of my 1RM to whatever my last working set was and hit paused reps. The maddog is best for sets above 365 and it can really pull your elbows in. I don't have a lot of time in with the original, but I believe it's not very invasive to your technique either.

Thanks for the insight, herder.

Didn't give much thought to the fact that the higher-up versions will play with your technique.

For that reason alone, I'll probably go with the reactive or the original.

Maybe rob112 will chime in. I think he has the red slanger

Little fluff and buff work.

Dumbbell Row (from dead stop, hold and squeeze at top) 4x10

Kroc Row 1xF

Rolling Tricep Extension 3x10
superset
E-Z Bar Curl 3x10

Single-Arm Dumbbell Preacher Curl 2x15

Lateral Raises 3x15

Calf Circuit 3 rounds

Done.

Two much needed days of rest ahead of me. Be back killin' it Tuesday night.

Enjoy your rest bro.

Enjoy your rest bro.

Thanks, reg.

Meant to comment on your front squats awhile back. Commit to the descent. You seemed a little hesitant (understandable when you have a heavy bar resting on your shoulders lol). Gotta take advantage of dat dere stretch reflex and explode out of the hole.

Gotcha. You think I'm more hesitant than on back squats, or just overall on all squats?

I def don't 'feel' comfortable with fronts (I will eventually, right?).

Can't remember honestly. I forget what you're back squats look like. Just keep in mind that we want to descend as quick as our current technique allows. So each person will vary.

And tbh I'd practice the back squat more often anyway. One thing at a time should make things easier for ya

Thanks man. I only did fronts as a secondary leg day.
