Lukehayd's road to reclamation!

Strong shoulder day Luke!

Thanks. I definitely felt it the next day. Today my back is slightly out between my shoulder blades and can't get it to realign. Made going into the big city with the girls (my wife, her 19 yo sis & our 4 yo daughter) to go shopping even more aggravating. I hate the rudeness of city drivers and my temperature starts getting hot.

I get that way sometimes too. I can't stand going downtown but have to almost every day.

Look what I found....you've been invaded now! ;) Great log so far- workouts and pics! That's an awesome house!!!!!

On the road to put up another house. Been super busy with work, side projects and family stuff lately. Had an appointment with a client yesterday after work for another side project so no gym time yesterday. :(

Here's a pic of my last side project. Some of you "Dr. Who" fans might recognize it.

I told them that they could paint it themselves and it'd be cheaper so they went that route. :)

Nice job on the cabinet.

Wow that's beautiful!! Very good craftsmanship!! Nothing like the beauty and quality of hand made furniture! Great job!

Been on the road working pretty much from dark to dark this week putting up a house. Back at the shop yesterday but was really just pretty worn out and went home to spend time with wife & daughter after work. Wound up going out and picking 5 gallons of sandhill plums to be made into jelly and wine.

Plum wine?!!! sounds fantastic!!!

You can have the wine, gimme the jelly! PB & Js are my addiction lol

From what I can tell of Luke, he won't limit you to one or the other. Why not a glass of wine with the pb&j?

Sand hill plum jelly is a highly coveted commodity for those in the know. The plums don't produce in large enough quantities every year to get enough to do anything with. So, when they do, everybody goes nuts! Lol! City folk come out to the country and trespass/steal just so they can get some. Not too uncommon for them to get met with a gun. They just have no sense!

Wow really?! That's just crazy! I can see the reality tv show now! Lol ;)

Sounds like id be the city folk lol I'm srs I love me some jelly (well pb and jelly)

lmbo!!! That would be about as bad as the ginseng pickers show! It wouldn't even last one season!

You'd be taking your life in you hands! lol!!!

I always take my gun with me when I confront someone doing something on my land (concealed of course) because you never know what their mental condition is but I'm always really mellow about it like, "Hey, whatcha doin?' Then I tell them politely that they are on private property and need to leave. I've never had to show the gun which is a good thing. A lot of meth-heads around here and you just can never be too cautious.

Plum dealing sounds like a dangerous profession. Lol.

When I was a kid my grandpa use to make all sorts of jellys and jams. They would pick the berries/fruit fresh and jar it that night! Miss it.

But, about the gun sitch. You most definitely can't trust everybody right off the bat, especially if they're trespassing! Same time though, you go about it in a good way, stay strapped but don't show it 8)

Today's gym session was really needed!!!! When I came back to work after the whole "finger fiasco", the other lead man at work herniated 3 discs in his low back. He is now strictly an office guy. So, the work load that we were splitting is now fully on me. We also hired a new guy to take up some slack on the shop floor and guess who's in charge of training him? Me. Add in that the last new guy (who's been there almost a year) still needs his hand held on a lot of the cutting and fitting process. Now, on top of that, we have a big job we're working on that is on a time crunch and it's got some complicated joinery in it.
Today there was a lot of questions to answer, timbers that were ordered too short, new guy ruining a big timber then making multiple bad cuts on the same freakin' piece after I showed him several times how to do it, tools needing fixed because of carelessness and not being able to get anything done on the section I'm working on. So, yeah, the frustration level was rather high today! Get to the gym and it's full of the douche-bros that take up several stations for over an hour. I adapted my wo to use other stuff so I could get in a good burn. Ok, rant over. Gonna go watch "300 Rise of an Empire" now to try to numb my brain.

Good news: most my lifts are back to the same as before my injury.
Better news: 1 handed low pulley cable rows (pulling to nips) has a couple new PRs! 150×5 and 170×3!!!
Not so good news: flat bench numbers are still sad! 245×2 was the best I could do yesterday. Working up the pyramid my numbers were looking good and close to normal. Then, once I got 245 on the bar, it was like I hit a wall.

Happy news: since most my numbers are back to or better than my preinjury numbers, I'm thinking of jumping on my Tr3st/ Sten-zine cycle next week. Also have 4-5 weeks at home before we have to go on the road at work again.

What a day yesterday!! Looks like today was better!! That's great news on strength!!! Look at you go! I don't think those #'s for bench are pitiful though!

My max prior was 325×1. I lost a lot on bench. :(

It will be back and you'll fly right by I'm sure! You haven't been back at it long!

Yeah, I'm just getting a little impatient. Lol! Nice new avi btw. thebigt would approve.

I can understand! We all get that way! It's amazing that you've gained as much back and more in other areas this quick though!...Thank you!! :) lol

Congrats on the pull PR and getting back to 100% Luke!

Hey, Luke! <bump> How about an update? I was in a major car accident about 5 years ago and they plated my arm and pelvic bone and stuck me in a wheelchair for 2.5 months. My workout partner would pick me up in my wheelchair and take me to the gym so I could do leg ext and leg curls. I remember I couldn't even wrist curl a collar with my left hand. But, 5 years later, I'm lifting pretty good. I wouldn't say I'm in as good of shape as before the accident, but I'm 5 years older too... Just keep pushing it and doing what you can do, Luke! It'll all come back before you know it.

Sorry for the lack of updates, as I've been super busy and trying to limit my online time to others' logs and work for Iron Flex so, I let this go by the way-side for a bit. Things are going good in the gym but haven't started my cycle just yet as all the stress at work right now wouldn't be favorable once adding in the effects of taking a few hormonal compounds. We (work) will be on the road all next week in Iowa putting up a house so there will not be gym time but a lot of busting arse. After that, things at work will slow down a bit and I will be able to catch my breath a bit. Then, the fun will begin as I can start my cycle!!!

That's one heck of a good friend there!!! We should all be so blessed to have people like that in our lives! Does the pelvis or SI joint still give you problems?

The pelvic joint gives my a little bit of issues when I do cardio. They plated over the joint at the front of the pelvis, so it doesn't absorb the impact as well and causes some pain after running a while. A few years ago I could only run about 1/2 mile before it was hurting so bad I couldn't go anymore. Now I can do 3-4 miles before it starts bugging me.

My arm however, is a different story. I ended up with a lot of scar tissue there and it constantly a problem. Especially on heavier lifting like bench press. I think because the plate doesn't let the bone flex (to absorb the pressure) I feel the "bite" of the screws. Between that and all the scar tissue, bicep and tricep movements hurt as well. But, I keep plugging along... It's gotten a lot better over the years. The doc told me that I have scar tissue wrapped around the nerve that controls my thumb and index finger which causes them to go numb and/or shake from time to time. They tried to go back in and clean it out, but I still have the issue.

But, God is good. I could be in a box six feet under. And everything still works mostly. So, I'm thankful.

repped for that inspiring story....makes my aches and pains seem insignificant.

Thanks. Aches and pains are always significant though. No pain no gain! That goes not only at the gym but in life as well. We just have to keep pushing through and maybe we'll learn something on the way. That's what I love about weight training. It's a micro example of life. The harder you go, the more it hurts the more it hurts the more you grow.
