Wasme's recomp journey....

Little update here fellas.. My back is feeling better but as it is recovering, sciatica has set in very hard in my right leg. I had surgery on L4/L5 when I was 21 due to disc compression / sciatica in my left leg. It is very painful and I really can't sleep at night as no matter what the pain just shots up and down the leg - gnaws at me all night and day.

This has happened from time to time when I hurt my back, but each time it worries me that it will stick around. That said, I hope that it starts to ease off and I can resume training. At the end of the day, what pi$$es me off more than the pain is the lost workouts..

Damn bro. Hope it's on the way out and stays away for a while.

Thanks Thomas. Doing a lot of stretching, but also having to pop percocet like smarties. At least I'm too sore to even hobble to kitchen to cheat!

pain is hell....but do yourself a favor and go lite on those smarties

Dang brother I get back from vacay and find you beat the hell out of yourself!! lol jk bro I hope you recover soon!!!

Thanks packers. Feeling a bit better today and trying to keep moving and not sit. Doing some laps of the block but not overdoing it.

Back/Leg update.. went to see my Dr today. I dunno, losing faith in them. He pushed my back and asked does it hurt - 'no', lifted my left leg - hurt? - no, lift right leg hurt? - no.. Then says you just injured it and the pain is radiating now - You'll be in fine in a week or so.

Told him I have not really slept in 3 nights now as the leg pain just seems to really intensify at night and when laying down. All he gave me was prescription strength Aleve (which is basically taking 3 regular ones at once). Was really hoping to get something to help me with the pain/relax things and well i suppose help me sleep. I guess I will stick with my stash of Percocet and Robax/Ibuprofen.

I am trying to stay active, yet not overdo it. However, this is also starting to make me feel very lazy and cooped up. I did go to work today, but will not be going tomorrow as the 40 minutes each way in the car simply kills; Add to that it is my 'driving' leg - a muscle spasm on the highway might not be a good thing.

I am at a loss though...At this point I am not sure if I should be icing or using heat? If anyone has any helpful advise please feel free - get a little depressed over here.

I'm way out of the loop here. How did you hurt it? How does it hurt?

Nm I saw it.

Ice. Ibuprofen. Stretching the Glutes/lower back. Foam rolling the posterior region might even help some just be careful not to put too much weight on the lower spine.

Sounds an awful lot like an impinged nerve.

Thanks Montana. I agree, has to be a nerve (dr did confirm that today). I'll start applying ice and continue stretching - just not over doing it.

Dang bro hope this is something simple and it goes away super quick! Be praying for yah bro!

Yeah man i isn't young no more lol I get set backs a lot and pmo. But I fight through it if I can. If it's bad i rest suck it up and hit harder when I come back

no words of wisdom....just hope you feel better soon

Doctors irritate the crud out of me sometimes. Unless they are a specialist, they hit guess and send you on your way. Before this is over with don't be surprised if you're told to never lift again.

yes, is hard to find a good GP, no doubt
but in Canada, it's even worse! all their good doctors flock down here so they can make real money, since the Canadian government caps income levels on docs up there...
such legislation leaves the country with an inordinate amount of quack "medical professionals"

Guess where we are headed?!?!

Agreed it's very hard to find good GP. Mine still tells me I'm eating too much protein and fats

Lol very inaccurate, but funny
oversimplification, but not all that inaccurate :D
all in good fun

Guess where we are headed?!?!
indeed (sigh)
I cannot shake my head enough, at the sad state of current affairs

but he's got a degree dude!
he MUST know what he is talking about...I'm sure he knows his studies!

Have you seen a chiro?

No, the last time I went that route - things got worse. I have a massage booked for 1pm tomorrow though (not of the rub and tug sort lol)

No doubt. Although the massage therapist asked me today if I do anything for my core. Positive sign.

Eating too much protein is bad for you kidneys, did you not know????

all in good fun
!

Always is my brother!

No rub n tug?? I'm out

So just went for my massage. Was painful yet relaxing. Will likely go back in a couple of days, if I see any relief at all from it. Time will tell.

Hope you have a speedy recovery

Thanks brother... actually feeling a bit better today from the massage. Hopefully things are looking up.

ETA on lifting again?

ETA on lifting again?

Good question. If my leg was full of pain I'd say anytime - light weight especially on back/leg day. Thinking, as soon as the sciatica calms down I am going to go with a weeks worth of light but full workouts and see how that goes. If I have to then repeat but hopefully can start bumping back up.

I went in the garage today to put the garbage bin away and all my equipment was looking lonely. Crazy how bad you miss it when you can't do it. Almost said screw it and tried but I know that would be a mistake. For now I'm just trying to walk it off - couple of laps of the block 3-4 times a day. Blows i tell ya!

It'll be over before you know it. Believe me, I know how bad it sucks. You're making the right call by taking it slow.

Yeah bro my shoulder starting acting up all week. I tried making today. Got there and just couldn't push anything. Hope you get well soon!

Quick update:

Lower back feels pretty much healed, still have some pain radiating down my right leg but no where near what it was. Went to the doctor's today and will be returning to work on Monday. Figure I will also start some light weight workouts around that same time. I am very eager to get back at it.
