Jim's Training to Become a Human Tank!

So, I'm definitely going to go ahead and order that bar tonight.

Also, I'm thinking about clearing out my garage and setting up a garage gym in there. As it stands, my gym membership is paid until next March (mine and the wife's) so I was thinking that during this year I would start getting enough equipment so that next year I can have a garage gym set up that has enough weight/equipment where I don't need to go to the gym (maybe even start training others, if I have the time).

So what I'm wondering, and I'm looking at you bolt10, is where you would go to buy the bigger equipment and what type of stuff would you get if you were doing it? (racks, GHD, Rev. Hyper, Competition Bench, multi purpose bench, dumbbell sets, etc.) Which places are the best for this type of stuff? Or would it be best just to search for the deals as I find them?

Bump.

Log Press:

Pullaparts x 60 (various kinds)

Log From Rack: 180 x 3, 205 x 3 (PR), 210 x 2 (PR)

Missed the 3rd, it got a little too far behind me and I had to dump it (which also split the log lol) so I stopped there, fixed the log, and did the strict presses (and final set of push press)

Log C+P: 110 x 3, 125 x 3, 135 x 8 x 2 (strict), 135 x 10 (push press)

These were easy, there is a little bit of a lag in between the lockout of the left and right arm, this isn't a strength thing, the log is heavier on one side than the other so I typically just alternate which way I face with these to even it out.

Kroc Rows: 100 x 20

a1. Rope Lat Pulldown: 100 x 8 x 3
a2. DB French Press: 65 x 12 x 2, 65 x 7--50 x 5
a3. Rear Delt Pullaparts: Red x 25 x 3

Good workout overall, my feet are killing me from work today, but outside of that no issues. Everything felt pretty solid today. Video is uploading as we speak.

Also, knee isn't feeling so hot right now, but I icy hotted the **** out of it before my workout so it isn't too bad.

What's it feeling like?

Been doing good work in here big guy!

Video (besides 210 which wouldn't work on WMM for whatever reason).

Solid work, but careful bubba. That's the way tendons and the labrum are torn.

Garage setup equipment ... Most of mine came from Craigslist, EBay or watching for special offers from the manufacturer. You would be surprised what garage sale equipment I picked up as well. Here's my setup:

I've really been impressed with Rogue for all the stuff I bought from them and the other stuff of theirs I have used and heard in person testimonials about. Their prices seem to beat anything else out there and the quality is at or above anything else (customer service has been great as well). A GHD from them is my next "big" purchase, so I can't comment on that in particular yet, but my rack, bars, and hardware are awesome (the utility bench is amazing and I am pissed I ever benched on anything else haha).

If I hadn't gone Rogue I would have gone with Sorinex. Seen some of their stuff and their racks are pretty beast.

As far as weights (dumbbells, plates, oly plates, etc.) I would look at all the used through Craigslist or if you have any of those used sporting good stores (we have a Play It Again Sports that sells lots of crap, but does occasionally have good deals on weights).

PS sorry for the delay I didn't see the mention on my phone. Hopefully it isn't bad how excited I am you are starting a home/garage gym. I absolutely love mine so far. If I wasn't close to moving into a small facility with my stuff and didn't do training for a living I would never leave my basement gym and return to anything else. :o

The man above me is who you should really talk to. I couldn't remember who it was exactly, but I had seen that set up before so glad you came in here and posted that!

This also helps me because mine is in its infantile stage. :p

Ok, thanks guys.

No gym today, had intended on doing some form of conditioning after eating but me and the wife definitely both fell asleep.

Thank you brother Napalm ... I think! Very blessed to have this gym. I'm there every day at 6 AM.

It is.

I'm looking at a few sites specifically for strongman equipment and im finding some good prices (just will have to look at reviews).

Also, I'm thinking of making another log on here, not to replace this one but to go alongside it.

I'm thinking "Jim's Quest to OHP more than Napalm Squats". What do you guys think?

Lol. Keep in mind, when the achilles improves, he's gonna have a three pound orange polyester singlet that's gonna make Savickas have a hard time OHPing more than Napalm.

I think gonna start a new log called "Dan becomes a strong man like Jim, But it might take him a Couple years because he has to Google every lift in this thread"

Or

"Dan becomes a human tank because Jim took too long because no one will support his enevidable Tren habit"

I'm still blown away by Savickas' 1117 deadlift, w/ tires, WR at the Arnold. Sh1t was nuts, people were hyped.

CG Bench Intensification 8's Wave

CG Bench: 135 x 3, 155 x 3, 160 x 8 x 2, 160 x 17

Axle Inc. Bench: 100 x 3, 115 x 2, 135 x 12

a1. Hex Press: 35 x 12, 45 x 12, 50 x 10
a2. Alt. DB Curl: 35 x 8, 25 x 12, 25 x 10
a3. Partial Arnold Press (no lockout): 45 x 8, 40 x 9, 35 x 10

b1. Facepulls: Red x 25 x 2
b2. DB Shrugs: 100 x 20, 100 x 15

Good workout, moved quick throughout all of it. Felt strong for the most part, had a little bit of aching in the left shoulder today but it didn't last too long. Haven't done shrugs in a LONG, LONG time and the pump was painful.

I did get some video, but I am not gonna upload it tonight (and might not tomorrow either) but I will post it up whenever I get it uploaded.

I've been meaning to ask, what are the dimensions of your garage? I'm trying to figure out how large mine is in comparison so I can figure out how much stuff I can fit.... (rough estimate)

These last two weeks are starting to make people think that I know what I'm doing.

They probably are all saying I was sandbagging all season to pad my handicap or something.

That's what if be saying if I was in the league lol

I only bowl well when the oil patterns are a certain way, I bowl with no thumb because I don't like the way my ball reacts using my thumb.

So if the lanes are real dry I won't hit it except for on the Brooklyn side no matter how I throw it.

But recently they got a new machine that lays the oil down better so I can typically get it rolling pretty good.

Did some events today, nothing spectacular and it was a pretty crappy day overall.

Farmers: 105 x 120', 195 x 60', 245 x F x 2 (had just intended a pickup and hold with this, but it didn't feel right when it came off the ground so I bailed)

Stone to 45": 235 x 1 x 8 (rest 15-30 seconds and do the next one)

Tried to work on explosiveness out of the lap, some were good, some weren't.

Felt like crap the last couple of days, it's either allergies or I'm getting sick. Sore throat, headaches, cough, etc.

At least you got a workout in.

Allergies have been killing me lately too.

Will measure the gym area tomorrow for you. My garage is 40x30 and I'm using about half that area.

Measured today and was off on the total size. The garage is 40x30 and the gym area uses 25x16. Hope this helps brother. It's an investment in health and longevity.

Awesome, thanks brother!

I'm cleaning the garage out and putting some **** in the attic so that I can have enough room to set everything up as I get it.

DL + FS Realization 8's Wave

Deadlift: 185 x 5, 240 x 5, 285 x 1, 325 x 15 (straps, TNG)

Was supposed 200 x 5, 240 x 3, then the last two. Thought my book had 240 as the first set lol....

Front Squat: 215 x 5, 250 x 3, 280 x 5

Not bad, wanted more but it is a PR. I've done 290 x 4 before, but the heaviest set I've done is 275 x 5.

a1. Pullthrough: AVG x 15 x 3
a2. 1 Leg Leg Press: 140 x 10 x 3

Pendlay Row: 205 x 3, 225 x 3, 245 x 3 x 3

I am fairly comfortable saying that is the most reps I've ever done with 325 on DL, I probably could have squeezed out a couple more reps, but the goal was 15 and I was feeling like stopping at ~10 and I didn't want my form to break down just for a couple more reps.

Videos will be uploaded later today.

Nice lifts Jim. That's some serious DL'ing you got going on there

Many many reps with deads. Holy hell.

I think I'm the only one not front squatting. You're breaking them off, Cincy is setting PRs...

I'm such a *****.

Log Press today, Realization Phase 8's Wave

Log From Rack: 180 x 1, 190 x 1, 200 x 1, 210 x 1, 215 x F

No split jerks today, now that I'm a little more comfortable with the technique I'm going to be doing them less frequently and doing most of my rack work as a push press. I notice that as a general rule, if someones strict or push press increases, everything else follows, but when someones jerks go up it doesn't really carry over as well.

Log C+P: 95 x 5 (barbell), 110 x 3, 130 x 1, 150 x 10 (Push Press)

I'm pretty disappointed with this honestly, I should have been able to get 12 easy. The only real issue I had was that I couldn't breath between reps, I kept trying to breathe through my nose and just kept getting a mouthful of snot (yuck). One of the older powerlifter guys in my gym (strongman too) recommended a nasal spray pre workout for this time of year so that it isn't an issue, and I might just start doing that.

a1. Meadows Row: 70 x 12, 90 x 12, 100 x 12
a2. Lat Stretchers: 60 x 20 x 2, 60 x 12 -- 8

Had to stop for a couple of seconds after the 12th before finishing the last 8.

OH Band Tricep Ext (50 in as few sets as possible): Purple Band x 40, x 20

2 sets again, repped out until failure on the last set. I will have to increase the band tension again next time.

Vid unavailable to me on iPhone damn it.

Nice pressing, Babyface. :D

Hmm, what about using a smaller dip for the push press? I feel you go a bit too low on these, just my opinion. Good work though

I need to.

I don't know why I dip so low, probably just a comfort thing, and I'm not sure if I do it with anything but the log.

But I definitely agree, it's just wasted movement.

They haven't been working for me inside Tapatalk for a while. I have to send it to Safari, but 9/10 when I go back to the forum it resets it. Grrr.

So, in short, from comments:

I dip so low, probably just a comfort thing, on the log.

Today's workout update:

CG Bench, Realization Phase, 8's Wave

Pullaparts x 60

CG Bench: 115 x 5, 135 x 3, 155 x 1, 180 x 17

These felt like they were harder than they looked, if I had a spotter I might have pushed it more, and honestly I know I left more than a few reps in the tank. Still, last wave I did 155 x 18, so this is a definite improvement over that.

Axle Inc. Bench: 110 x 5, 125 x 3, 140 x 14

Not bad. Felt pretty good for the most part.

a1. DB Bench: 75 x 12, 85 x 7--75 x 5, 75 x 15
a2. EZ Bar Drag Curl: 65 x 12, 65 x 9, 65 x 11

b1. Hex Press: 45 x 10, 50 x 10, 50 x 8
b2. Bradford Press: 95 x 8, 95 x 5

Cut the bradford press short, had some discomfort around my rear delt when doing them.

Facepulls: Red Bands x 25 (Chin level), Red x 25 (~2' above head), Red x 20 (Bellybutton level)

And so, as the testing week has ended, this is where I stand.

Deadlift: +35 (yikes!)
Front Squat: +20
Log Press: +5 (lolz)
CG Bench: +22.5
Axle Inc. Bench: +32.5

Which makes my working maxes:

Deadlift: 442.5
Front Squat: 351.5
Log C+P: 192.5
CG Bench: 249.5
Axle Inc. Bench: 199

Pretty soon you guys might see some wrapped front squats lol....
