Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Sean, I get Graston done all the time, big believer.

**** yeah. I'm looking forward to it. The guy will only do it once a week, and works in quarters of the body only. The guy that had it done said he even pissed different colors after it happend lol

Oh, and I've been using one of those mats that you put in your kitchen drawers or table to keep stuff from sliding around. It's 4ft long and fits perfectly on the bench. Zero slide.

DUDE!! Jelly of that squat and that pull!!

I know you probably already answered this somewhere in the thread, but you looking to compete soon?

hahaha You've got an awesome mom!

That's like every mom and grandmom in Japan. So funny to see these well dressed, manicured women pounding beers and shots with their kids and grandkids, until they are beet red and blurry eyed. Totally acceptable socially. And then you have the suits meandering the streets alone, leaving trails of puke. Funny ****. Repressed by day, sloppy by night. I can relate.

Managed depth with a wide stance. I just had to endure the forward lean a second longer.

That's crazy impressive Sean, particularly for a thick guy.

Not thick like that. ;)

The only way I am getting that low is if I am being ridden reverse cow girl.

Working sets
485x3x3 Oly Shoe, Comp Stance, Loose wraps
510x2x2 Flat Sole, Wide Stance, Moderate wrap

What a great, but long, day. You'll see why I'm concerned over choosing an optimal squat stance. I'm under 2 months out so I need to decide fast. I'm slightly apprehensive about switching, but I need do what's strongest. Wide stance had zero stick points. Moderate stance did. Zero issues with the Nike's. Alternated my toe angle to a more forward angle as I had in the past. I just need to get used to them.

What a quandry. Hard being you, man. :) Great lifting, bud. Clearly, you've been working that fine tail off.

haha you have a special way with words that I appreciate

I've stayed on top of my hip work this week so I'll see how fast I can throw 70% around tomorrow with that stance. I feel it's too soon to switch stances but it was so much easier

I've never had issues with strength drop even with keto. My first keto diet, I was doing Doggcrapp. Got strong, lean, and added mass.

Is that when you grew the heart-shaped box of yours? That's enough to keep me on the carbs. ;)

Dinner:
-Homemade chicken lettuce wraps (10oz of chicken, sauce added 30g carb)
-160g carb worth of Chinese rice noodles
-2 low fat strawberry poptarts
-frozen yogurt
-chips n salsa

Has this turned into the diet channel, fatty?

Cube-Heavy Deads

Barbell Rows (Chris Duffin style :P )

Dang! Keep up the good work, man. As for the excessive diet talk, not so sure. :)

Wow, those looked like me doing 225, but with better form.

Best part is that guy staring at your bung from the dip rack, lol.

Wow, that bench is moving, despite the shoulder. Never worked on the swiss bar. Sounds interesting. I am sure the neutral grip is quite a bit more challenging.

Great work, Sean. Hearing of this pump reminds me that we are overdue ... for a lemon party!

I also have a connection for a chiro that does Graston. The guy said he did one session on his shoulder and it felt incredible. He said it broke up a ton of scar tissue. I'll be going next Tuesday hopefully.

I had great luck with Graston, but it hurts like an MFer.

Wow, that bench is moving, despite the shoulder. Never worked on the swiss bar. How does it feel differently? Great work, Sean. Hearing of this pump reminds me that we are overdue ... for a lemon party!

lol @ lemon party

The shoulders are getting better. Today was my first non-slingshot full ROM press and it was good.

I feel the Swiss bar takes the load off the shoulders and leaves your pecs to do more of the work. Triceps got murdered from it as well. I don't see the carryover to a competition bench, aside from building musculature. That being said though, I think it's an outstanding alternative to pressing if you have shoulder issues. I think you would like it. Its on sale right now too!

Carb backloading buddy! What other way can I smash 400g of carbs in just a couple hours.

Just had 16oz of pasta and am working on chips and salsa right now. Then I'll go for pasta before bed!

I followed a similar diet years back, where I ate all of my carbs in a one-hour period, within 1.5 hours after training. It worked great.

I've been trying to carb up more the 1.5 hours after my training as of late. We will see how it goes. I'm usually pretty low carb.

Thanks for good feedback. I would get one for sure if I had a home gym, something I've been thinking more about. But for now, I have no place to keep it.

So far it's good. I'm takin in my carbs around 6pm and on, even if I train at noon. Just a pre/intra drink and protein post.

Holy hell, that dude staring. "look at DAT ASS" lolz

So you deading in wrestling shoes now?

Those shorts aren't hiked up either. They're actually that short. I'm quite proud of my short shorts purchase. You'll be seeing them a lot.

My girl has been trying to get me to get short shorts for a while.

Now that I know they're Sean approved, i'm going to buy a pair.

Also, deads looked good. I've been in the "riding down"situation. It sucks because it's really taxing but it should help put some quality muscle on.

Yeah my hammies are fairly sore.

Short shorts are then shít.

Well, fück it. I'm switching stances a month out. The ease, speed, and lack of stick point between wide and moderate is obvious to me now. I'll consider this to be a part of my evolution.

Chest cave on a couple. Once I started thinking "chest up" it got better. Weighted shifted around a tad. And as embarrassing as it is, I couldn't get myself centered under the bar for the life of me lol

2nd to last 415 and 1st 505 isn't filmed

Looked good, I'm not sure wide is going to be better for you in competition though tbh. It's much faster at submaximal weights, sure, but won't you get more out of your wraps with the more moderate stance? You'll notice on the closer stance squats today, that it's only slow during the portion of the lift that the wraps support you in, but after that it moves very explosively. Just a thought.

Plus, good song choice, passive is my favorite song from APC.

Reps look smooth bubba...wider stance seems to agree with you on both the squat and with sumo DLs.

Agree with Bolt on the wrap assistance being better with the close stance though.

A Perfect Circle pandora station never fails.

I completely understand that, and you might be right. But here is what goes through my mind:

1) Moderate is explosive out where the wraps stop helping, maybe just as much as wide stance, but it still feels heavier.
2) I get more spring out of wraps with the moderate stance yes, but last week the stopping power of them felt the same. I feel stronger in and out of the hole with and without wraps in a wide stance, which is the toughest part for a raw lifter. What if strong in the hole + wraps supersedes weak in the hole + wraps.
3) I've tested 70-85%, and wide felt strongest.

Now you're points are extremely valid, I'm only countering for the sake I discussion. It wouldn't be wise to make a concrete decision. Competition is 100% +, so I'll never truelly know, like you mentioned. It may very well change with 95% load w/wraps.

Mobility wise, I've found exactly what allows me to get into the optimal position, so I'm not concerned about combining sumo + wide stance.

And I'll be on leave the week of the 17th. I don't know if I'll be able to lift, carb backloading won't be doable, so it's not really an optimal time to be gone but it is what it is. Family comes first.

It's just something to think about, and obviously you have much more experience/knowledge squatting with wraps than I do. Do you have any ME days for squat coming up so that you can get a feel for it with the wider stance at 95% or so before the meet?

Yeah I need to. Probably skip RE next week and take 600 from a reverse band.

Dang, I apparently just lost 45#....

 :(

I will say I did think pretty much the exact same thing though. You know what's best Sean, I was just wondering if there would be any difference closer to max as opposed to the submaximal work right now.

Give it a try though, maybe widening the stance will be exactly what you need.

Squats looked sexy smooth.

Spank you.

Thoughts on the above discussion?
You're gravitating to wide it seems, and it looks good, my only concern is hip health.

I agree with the concern. For some fûcked up reason though, it's becoming more comfortable the wider I go. After 2-3 weeks of sumo and 2 weeks of wide squats, they feel fantastic. Who knows how if it's just a phase.

Ya, just wait for them to break... I could only last so long before it happend to me.

Next week will be the last week of it and then I'm off for a week.

I have to form new squat bar skin now :( Ouch
lol the 55lb squat bar raped my skin.
