Sean's Powerlifting Journey

If asked, I would say I'm a fan of Elliot. I could definitely be friends with that guy.

Which one was that?

This video is also a really great way to teach the deadlift. I took my girlfriend and one of my best friends, neither of which had ever deadlifted before, and taught them how to deadlift with good form in a matter of minutes by telling them to just pick up the bar, then correcting them from there with a 2-board (like in the video above).

I dig Elliot hulse. Except when his philosophy gets in the way of the training advice hes giving. I don't mind the philosophy but sometimes I don't wanna watch a 10 minute video where he could just say "stretch your hips like this".

What he said makes a lot of sense
Many of the people on here have started to address many of those thing I know napalm in particular said it has benefited him

Really need to buy some bands still got my crapy target one lol

**** we all know but I appreciate what he says about training pressing muscles for performance ect

I did these exercises a lot when I started getting back into training last year. They help, not sure how much they help once you learn to pull with your back and not your arms when do rows etc. The are probably good to add in, but if you can do pullups, some kind of row and deadlift every week, I am not sure how much more they are going to benefit you. If you like to pile the weight on machines and turn back exercises into full body work, they may be of some benefit.

I agree. I wouldn't use them as a primary mass/strength builder by any means. However, those 3 excercise I feel have benefited my shoulders.

lol nice.

Well, I don't mean to restate what the video said, but the objective was to work the upper body without taxing the shoulder joint of a pro wrestler who trashes his joints for a living.

I only watched the first couple seconds of it, but I thought he talks about how he has his guys start with this before they move into heavier back work. I don't know of any safe way to lift weights. I guess I will watch it again.

I just watched it again. The objective is to work the back to bring it up comparably to the pressing muscles because most people have imbalances from performing heavy rows and such incorrectly, he is just using HHH as an example. Using bands works the smaller muscles in the back. I have done these for months, they do not work as well as shoulder pressing and chins for shoulder health imo. As far as upper back imbalances, i am not sure these exercises did much for me other than allow me to do more work. Maybe i am not a good example as i have done band pullapart always on and off.

It's interesting you and others talk about shoulder pressing for shoulder health. I can't do any as it destroys my shoulders almost immediately. And actually, the same might be said with pullups to some degree for me (though to be fair you said chins, not pullups). The only time I was pain free (and this includes the conscious portion of my 21 years before I started lifting) in my shoulder was when I benched and did no shoulder pressing of any kind except some incline work. Funny (shítty) how we all respond differently to the same stimuli.

Shoulder pressing makes mine feel better. Not sure why. I used to avoid it at all costs Bc of my pain, but it feels good now, and I think it improved my shoulder health

When i talk about shoulder pressing i am talking about standing and finishing with the weight over my head, not seated as that is a bastardized lift. Also, chins seem to be a fix all for me, pullups bother my shoulders.

Ironically, I can do seated without much issue, lol. Standing is the one that hurts.

Maybe after my next comp I might break out the swiss bar and try it with that. Some "tests" I've done make me think it'll let me press pain free.

Swiss bar is a lifesaver. I'm pretty sensitive to shoulder issues, and the minute I feel it start to twinge, I switch to Swiss bar pressing and it all goes away.

I've started doing almost all pressing except the flat bench with a Swiss bar just to save the hassle of letting my bad wing even start to hurt.

NG pressing is literally the only thing that hurts my shoulders. None of us are on the same page, lol.
This, we're all different leverages, inflexibilities, and weak points.

Hey guys, my gym just got an ~80lb log

I believe it was rogue fitness. Idk if that was good or not but it looks like a good time

I think I'd rather use the Swiss bar for benching or incline due to the fact that I can rack it, but I'll probably use it for some C+P or just ohp.

No gym today. Stomach bug kicked my ass. Rehydrating today. I'll use this week as a deload/**** around, and restart my Cube week on Monday.

Too bad, but I'm sure you could use it anyways.

Yeah you're right. Still sucks. Was supossed to lift tonight with other people whom are strong, too. Depleted right now tho.

Go and help handle? lol

Will just make you want to lift I'm sure, best to rest up anyways.

I've got something to. Couldn't eat yesterday after my great bench day for me . Felt sick in the night, and all today. Weird stomach thing.

Yeah I puked 6x until 3am. Was pretty nasty. I drank some red powerade earlier in the day and I didn't make it to the toilet in time on the second vomit. Went everywhere. Looked like Kurt Cobain offed himself in my bathroom.

Lmao. Yea I dry heaved a few times but it was right upon waking so nothing was in my stomach. Glad too. I hate puking.
