breezy's training, supplementation, and food log

Nice work Breezy! Those lunges look nice and painful!

Form check! Hate to bother you again breeze but I put a couple more meadows vids in my log from two different angles and some dead stop Smith rows. Lemme know what ya think you machine you :)

Thanks bud. The lunges weren't too bad, but the 1.5 squats were rough.

Lol anytime man. Youtube is blocked on this computer (and my phone is dead), but I'll definitely check them out when I get home.

12/24/13

Slight Incline DB Press
60x6
70x6
80x6
90x6
100x6

-lowest incline setting on bench

-5 sec eccentric / 2 sec stretch / explosive concentric to 3/4 lockout

-attempting to flex pecs as hard as possible during eccentric (love this approach)

Banded HS Incline Press
90x6
140x6
160x6
180x6, 8 partials

-didn't let elbows pass 90 degrees during eccentric / explosive concentric to lockout / 2 sec flex

-put band around my back instead of on the machine: worked great/a lot of tension

Banded Slight Incline Smith Press
20 (bar) x30
70x20, 10 count, 70x12
110x15, 10 count, 110x8
160x8, 10 count, 160x3
200x5, 10 count, 10 sec isotension, 10 count, 10 sec isotension

110x15 (no band / super wide grip)
110x15 (no band / super wide grip)

-20lb bar resistance (band resistance not included)

-ROM: 2-3" above chest to 3/4 lockout

Incline DB Flye / Incline DB Flye-Press
40x6 / 40x6
40x6 / 40x6

-Flye-Press (new approach): The eccentric "flye" portion of the movement was 5 sec. I twisted to a pronated grip (brought thumbs in) in the stretched position, before the concentric "press" portion of the movement (twist back to neutral grip for the eccentric). I tried one set with a hard flex and the other with constant tension. These were solid.

KB Side Lateral Raise
20x8, x15 swings
20x8, x15 swings
20x8, x15 swings

-death grip: holding KB straight out (no hang)

- I decided to do a strictly KB shoulder session. I'd done these exercises at different times, but never all at once. KBs change the dynamics and are very challenging to hold straight out (especially when using full ROM), which I attempted to do with each exercise. It was quite a forearm workout as well (they're already sore).

KB Front Raises
15x12
15x12
15x12

Incline KB Swings (destroyer set) / KB 6 ways
40x60, 20x30, 10x10 / 5x8
40x50, 20x25, 10x10 / 5x6

-I was going to do 6 ways before the destroyer set (separately), but forgot and decided to add them on at the end.

Merry Christmas Breezy!

Merry Christmas to you as well, gokix!

It's going to be different, that's for sure. I spent the day at the hospital waiting for my father to be released (he's been there for the last week with blood clot/kidney issues). He was all signed out and ready to go, but had a last second problem and couldn't leave.

Sorry to hear that bud. Hopefully you can spend xmas out of the hospita thenl. If not, at least you're still with him.

Thanks bud. Yeah, I'll be heading back in the morning, but don't know if he can leave. He should be alright though.

On a more positive note, I just heard from the Mtn. Dog himself. He's currently checking out a bunch of my band work and variations. Pretty awesome.

Hope your dad is okay.

Merry Christmas!

That is awesome about hearing from Meadows.

Yeah, I just sent him a couple more ideas. Hopefully, he approves and gives some a try.

That would be crazy and awesome at the same time. You'll have to let us know.

Merry Christmas bro and to everyone else in here.

I hope you can bring your father home tomorrow...all the best to him.

And that is cool about Meadows.

Yeah, Meadows is the man. I'm sure he has a million other things that he could be doing.

I'm watching the guys from my gym on "Boston's Finest". I'm hoping to make a guest appearance this season. :D

12/26/13

Today's session was a little different. I couldn't make the gym this morning and had to start my workout around 3PM. I also arrived unprepared and trained in dress shoes, hatless, and without a plan. My back was smoked by the time I left though.

Part of the show is done at your gym?

Yeah, one of the main guys on the show (Invalid Link Removed) is the owner/head trainer of the boxing part of my gym and a few other guys train there as well. I've worked out a few times while a big film crew was shooting for last season and the one currently airing. I actually just noticed a sign by the door stating that parts of the gym are being filmed and it can be used by some media company (or something like that). There's two segments (a few minutes each) at the gym during the 2nd episode of this season and a split second clip during the show's intro. I'm catching up "On-Demand" and don't know how many episodes its been in so far this season.

The Discovery Channel was there a while ago as well, filming what I think was supposed to be called "Soldiers of Southie". I haven't heard anything about it since though.

Is it worth it by what you've seen so far?

I haven't seen much yet. I ordered it from my phone when I was leaving this morning and have only seen part of the Meadows program. It looks awesome though and I'm literally about start it with some SSB squats with chains. I was gonna do arms, but decided to hold off and start from day 1. I saw banded DB press in there too, so it seems like it includes some of his current stuff.

I figured its worth it just for the 6 week Meadows and 12 week Wendler programs. I'll check everything out after the gym and let you know what I think.

12/27/13

I started Meadows' Muscular Demolition Program today.

Here's the objective: "The goal is simple, get huge. I don’t care if you are dieting, bulking, or whatever you call it,
the purpose of training should be to develop muscle, and that’s the environment we are going to create."

I didn't seem that rough on paper, but I could barely make it through.

Lying Leg Curls
60x8, x6 partials
80x8, x6 partials
100x8, x6 partials
120x8, x6 partials
130x8, x6 partials
130x8, x6 partials
130x8, x6 partials

-pyramid up doing sets of 8 to a pretty tough 8, before 3 working sets at that weight

Chain Safety Bar Squats
135x12
135x12
185x6
225x6
245x6
245+1 chain x6
245+2 chain x6
245+3 chain x6
245+4 chain x6

-3 sec eccentric / explosive concentric driving hard

Leg Press
270x4
360x4
450x4
540x4
630x8, x8
630x8, x8
630x8, x8
630x8, x8

-worked up with low rep sets to a good working weight

-1st 8 reps: feet high and wide with toes out (10 o'clock)

-2nd 8 reps: feet together positioned in the middle of the platform

- all reps/sets with constant tension

-I'd never tried this foot placement combo. My legs were on fire and it was challenging to complete.

Quad Stretches
30 sec per leg after each set of leg press

Box Step Ups
90x12
90x12
90x12

-box at knee level

-45lb plate in each hand

-slight lean forward (bending at waist) during eccentric to work glute/ham tie-in

-coming up to about 4/5 lockout at top

-12R/12L

-way too much cardio: I was ready to pass out

Barbell Stiff Legged Deads
225x10
225x10
225x10

-slow eccentric

-flex glutes at top

You should try stepups with the SSB next time!

Looked like a rough session.

That sounds awesome as long as I don't have a leg give out or stumble and cause a scene.

Yeah, it beat me up pretty good.

Going to be picking that up as well breezy.

Man, I'm going insane, literally. Been out of the gym for a week now and won't get back in until Monday (even then I don't know how it will go). My bicep tendonitis flared up big time last Friday so I took this whole week off. Been doing a few exercises for my shoulder/bicep, icing, and resting the sh!t out of it.

Nice. There's a lot of good info.

That's awful man. I start losing it after a couple days off. I'd probably be doing a lot of band/mobility work until I could get back to the weights.

It sure is a sucky situation.

I'll be hitting legs Monday. I'll see how the arm feels during squats and then Tuesday how it feels for chest.

I weighed in at 213lbs this morning. I'd been around 216 for the last week, but keeping carbs to 500-600g the last 3 days has caused my weight to drop a little. I'm slowly starting to ease into prep (17 weeks out today). Calories are moving back towards maintenance and will probably be at a slight deficit within the next 2 weeks. The plan is to take things slow and hold on to as much muscle as possible.

I'm going to stick with "Muscular Demolition" for the next 4-5 weeks (however long it takes me to get through it). For the remainder of prep, I'll probably somewhat follow "The Honey Badger" with some additional volume/exercises (where I see fit) and newer intensity techniques (isotension) thrown in, which is basically what I'd been doing for the last month. I was really enjoying the occlusion work and exercise selections that are included. The plan is to hold off on cardio for a while and hopefully keep it to a minimum throughout prep. Training volume and frequency will make up for the cardio.

12/28/13

Slight Incline DB Press
60x8
70x8
80x8
90x8
100x8
110x8

-worked up with sets of 8 until I could barely get 8

-constant tension

Incline BB Bench
205x5
205x5
205x5
205x5
205x5

-moderate weight that I could maintain explosiveness with for 5x5

-constant tension

Slight Decline Smith Press
160x20 (feeder set: started too light)
200x20
230x15
250x10
270x6, 200x6, 110x25 (wide grip: until complete failure)

-20lbs bar resistance

-constant tension

-I had a training partner today, who inspired me to use more weight (without sacrificing form)…she repeatedly called me a pus$y :)

Chain Flyes
20
20

-welcome to pumpville

Bent-Over DB Swings
40x30
40x30
40x30

-great mind-muscle connection with these: rear delts were screaming

Seated DB Side Laterals
20x10
20x10
15x10

-“ultra strict” form: zero swing/shrug

Cage Press
135x5, x4 partials
135x5, x4 partials
135x5, x4 partials
135x5, x4 partials

-pressing from chin level

-explosive concentric / leaning in at top / partials out of top

-didn’t reset each rep: kept bar off pins

Banded Cage Press
65x10, x4 partials
85x8, x 4 partials

-I’d wanted to try this, so I threw in a couple sets. They were awesome and one of my favorite banded exercises. I just put a band around my back, had it come up under my arms, and around my thumbs. These will be added into my sessions after I complete this program.

I like it. Breezy, do you plan on buying the honey badger or are you just following mark dugdale's log on efs?

Thanks ace. I've been following Mark's log, but am considering seeing what Meadows would recommend for prep and dropping the cash. From what I've heard, I think Devourer or Creeping Death have the volume that I'd prefer during prep. One of the powerlifting hybrids would be cool for the off season too. I'd like to work with him this upcoming year either way.

Good objective

Breezy, you ever grab Defuse and run it?

Yes sir.

I think that's basically the goal for all of his programs.

Breezy, you ever grab Defuse and run it?

I held off, but will probably grab some for refeeds. That reminds me that I should stock up on Recompadrol and MP soon as well. I haven't been using many supps besides staples and will keep it that way for another month or so. I'm currently using Jack3d AF or Monster Pump, Modern BCAA+/Amino IV, AP, OxyELITE Protein, SuperCissus, Max Pump, and PowerFULL. I'll start TEST Powder again in a couple weeks, but haven't planned anything beyond that yet.

I've been using jacked af lately. It's pretty solid stuff breez. How do you like the max pump?

I know you seem to do an awesome job making your own programs, but I'd think it would be really cool to see how you did actually working with Meadows. There is something cool about someone else writing your programs so that all you have to worry about is killing it in the gym and not overthinking what to do (IME). :)

Working with one of the icons in the industry would be remarkable.

I would carry around a tape recorder and ask every question I could think of lol.

Nice, I love Jack3d AF. Monster Pump might be the first pre that I've tried since its release. I'll probably give Stimul8 a try soon though. Max Pump is solid. I'm not that big on pump products (stim free), but have been enjoying it. I'm a big fan of betaine as well (getting a hefty dose combined with Monster Pump and soon to be TEST Powder).

Yup. That's exactly why I want to work with him. I can spend a good amount of time putting training together (for myself and a couple other people) and it'd be great to have mine taken care of (especially by Meadows). I don't really need any diet help either, but if I had a ton of cash to throw around, I'd probably have him do that as well.

Today looks like it will be an off day. I'm going to see my father and will head to the gym in the late afternoon. Unfortunately, I doubt that I'll have time to get in a session of my own, before it closes at 6PM (I somehow forgot it closes early and am not happy :().

Thinking about grabbing Defuse myself sometime soon.

Working with Meadows would be an absolute awesome opportunity. I know you've always loved his stuff as well so that makes it even more sweet.

Hope your pops is doing better also.

It will definitely be sweet.

Thanks man. He's still in the hospital, but doing decent.

Breezy, I am starting week twelve of the program devourer. It is badass.

I bet and am wicked jealous. Doesn't that program give you the option of 7 training days?

When I was talking to him (meadows) about prep, he mentioned he also offers just training consultation. It's either a 12 or 16 week program and he puts together based of your goals and body comp. Not terribly expensive if you look at what your actually getting.

Yeah, that's what I plan on doing (most likely after prep, but maybe during if I have the cash). You fill out a questionnaire and he assigns you one of his 12 week programs (working on his 16th program now).

Yeah, the extra frequency really helped me add some size/roundness and fullness to my physique

Awesome. Sounds like a winner and exactly what I'm looking for.

Lol yeah, I saw that a few weeks ago. It makes me wish that I was training legs tomorrow. The program he's working on now should be ridiculous.

I do not know why I've never checked out the channel on YouTube before. Watching all the vids now.

Pretty pumped to see the new program.

Trying to decide what program I want to go with next.

Nice. There's all kinds of good stuff.

I'm sure it'll only be available to clients who he thinks should run it.

Have you tried any Mtn. Dog yet?
