I think it's an advertisement for his book and supplements BUT I do think it looks well rounded and pretty cool looking and I trust what Wendler writes. I say give it a shot if it appeals to you. Seems like it may break up some of the boredom of the normal 5/3/1, ya know?

Just to piggy back, it seems he never posted the past the 5th week if you read the comments.

I'll look at them again right now the whole PL\weightlifting thing is still newish to me ive only been at it a little over a year so not anywhere near bored with 5-3-1

One thing I am loving is there are so many variants and possibilities that you can always keep it fresh. Granted when you get to the upper level of number I can see the program be harsh at times(deads on 5's week in particular).

Yea I can see that, I think im a few years out before something like that would come into play

You'll surprise yourself.

I think the section on doing multiple sets of your first set last and adding in paused and dynamic work (8 sets of 3 or 5x5 w/ 70%) would be beneficial and staying with the true character of 5/3/1.

I like how in the article, Bret says "In fact, only one lifter exhibited thoracic flexion during the concentric phase of the lift."

And I was like "It was Pete, we all know."

It is. lol

I still see it being harsh on a newer lifter too. Just because they aren't pulling what we think is heavy, it's still heavy to them, and they're still pulling 5+ reps @85%.

Agree. Shît, take 60% 1RM and do a one minute AMRAP with deadstop reps and tell me how you feel afterward. I'll give you two minutes to catch your breath. I'd be vomiting with a nosebleed and I'd probably inhale some vom trying to catch my breath. Rep deads are hard any way you slice it.

I'm gonna do that tomorrow. Thanks for the idea!

Done 315x32 in 60 seconds before. Only threw up a little. Trap bar deadlift though so easier, for a lifting combine.

Yeah rep deads suck. What sucks more is after a year of progression doing the 5s week. You learn you can get a lot more reps than you think.

Very true. Some of the rep days spelled out in Cube Kingpin were brutal. I would have never even thought I could do them if I were left to my own devices. But when it's on paper, I just do it.

Long story short, it's a lot easier to tell someone to do something than to do it.

So, my plan for the Cube is as follows:

I don't support doing a meet day in the gym. To me, that should be saved for the platform. All I'm trying to get, are numbers to plug in for the 9 weeks following, not smash 1RM's. So, once the next couple weeks are done, I'll make an attempt at a 535 pull early in the week. If it's not feeling right, I'll do a 2RM. Few days off then I'll bench, hopefully breaking my dreaded 300. Few days after that, I'll go in to squat a double of something between 585-600 hopefully. If a double doesn't happen with that number, then I'll go for 610-615. Doing a 1RM doesn't sound to appetizing unless I have 2-3 other people there with me. If that's the case, then I might.

I wanna see the legendary three wheel bench real bad.

I like the call. Small, SAFE PRs seem to be much better for the gym to avoid set backs and keep moving steadily forward. Balls to the wall **** for the platform bc the risk reward is much greater IMO. Smart man.

Sounds really good, Sean. I already am bracing to be blown away.

Do it.

jimbuick Should've seen the video the local radio station did of Mike T tripping a few New York Islanders.

LOL. That's my team, the Fish. Rothlisberger had a forward lateral, but I was still sweating it. Can't believe Brown stepped out with that lead he had. Leave it to the Fish to blow a lead going into the closing minutes.

I really thought more of Tomlin. He went to the same undergrad as did I. A place where there is zero tolerance of lying and cheating, ironically. I used to take exams back to my dorm room, so it was quiet and I could better focus.

I still don't get how you guys can't conceive of even a possibility that Tomlin made a mistake. You automatically think less of him. Boggles my mind.

haha yes it was here..and good post! lookin at it now

edit: not sure why layne norton is on there

I haven't read the link yet but let me just say this..

Disclaimer: I love Layne Norton and the science he is bringing to the scene..

But

He has the SH1TTIEST squat I've ever seen in my life. He claims long torso long femurs whatever well i'm calling BULLSH1T. He has p1ss poor tspine mobility and his upper back is clearly not strong enough to support the loads he squats.

Every rep over 400 looks like a good evening. It's disgusting. My 14 year old brother has a better squat than him.

Layne Norton is a great guy I love what he's done for the sport but he should NEVER be featured in a squat article.

End rant.

Yeah that's what I was gettin at lol Smart as fûck but I've seen a couple videos of him getting quite a few red lights. I won't talk crap on someone who's stronger, healthier, and smarter than me-but he shouldn't be paired with all the all-stars in regards to squatting

I somehow missed this earlier in the week, but since everyone liked that deadlift one Contreras did here is a squat one: Invalid Link Removed

Wait was that in here that I even posted the last one.....lol

I just like the pictures of those heavy skwaattss.
Who the FOCK is Dmitry Ivanov? Even in the hole he looks about 3x the size of his spotters.

I read that Jim Wendler link just today. One interesting thing he mentioned that I swear I don't remember ever reading in his 3 books is to pause the bench reps on the AMRAP sets on the chest. If he ever did say that I clearly read right over it. Either way, I think if I had done that when I tried 5/3/1 it might have worked a little better for me when I ran it, though I also never really gave the program a chance, lol.

Paused reps are a b*tch!! It's great to build strength out of that bottom and to make sure you aren't bouncing the weight (I'll admit, it happens sometimes when I get tired). It's just humbling when I only have 80% on the bar and can barely move it out of a pause!

I did 5 rep sets with 3ct pauses (I use a metronome app on my phone so I don't cheat aka efffff meeeeee).

Contreras prob just put Layne in there because they are bros.

Also, dang at how much serious weight was thrown around across the globe this weekend. :D

Is it weird I pause all my bench reps and if I'm doing touch n go, I'll pause when fatigued in order to complete the rep.
