I meant smokerThat's him lol
Knee wraps don't necessarily help the knees in my experience. Especially when wrapped extremely tight like most do for the added pop.
It could be extremely useful for overload, and could definitely be used sparingly for those that don't use them in competition.
But, my wife absolutely cannot use knee wraps. Sleeves? No problem. Wraps? Cause a ton of pain for her.
I think knee wraps hurt everyone at first, and each time you learn to up the tension on tem. Just rolling some cheapies on would be a good start. You can always try later or train without them. I'd like to see what sleeves are all about sometime.
It's similar to most big movements. Once you break inertia, it's generally easier the second rep.
The catch 22 is we are after that 1st rep. I figure it is worth a shot to work to get closer to my second rep first...if that makes sense.
I can't remember where I heard it, but there's an old adage that the better you are at reps, the worse you are at singles. If you're having an issue with that first rep, then try pause reps. On bench, do singles of pin presses as it'll eliminate the stretch reflex and requires pure force and technique. Box squats with a complete pause (stay tight, though) and then make sure to film your self from the side on pulls. It's often a positioning issue of pulls.
