gokix's summer kickoff!

Mines convinced that no matter what she'll get that female bodybuilder look. I keep telling her that's not how it works but.... idk

Yeah- same here, but after sending a ton of links and articles, etc about why that isn't the case, she did come around. Plus she was in a wedding earlier this summer and got a few compliments on her new found buffness - that sealed the deal right there

Nice :)

I wish I could get my wife into lifting. It would be really great for her. She gets so damned stressed out and all she does is stew and watch those stupid real housewives shows instead of releasing it in a productive way. :(

I've seen a few of those shows before, lol. All they do is dress up and host parties. Pissing content. Your wife is currently preggers, right? Well, if she asks about getting the baby weight off, you could spin it around and say lifting will help with that post pregnancy weight and help tighten & "tone" everything up.

Great workout!! Those sumos are impressive! Strong pulls, nice job!

You can hit 250 for sure. Next week drop it back and do 3-4 warmups and shoot for 6 sets of 3 at 175-180. Then the following week try for 5 sets of 5 at 165-170, then the next week warm up, and do singles up to 215 and I'll bet you get it no problem

Thanks!! You're strong as an ox, so logic dictates that I listen to you. :) Just curious, is this a powerlifting program? Wondering how achievable that is for someone like me, because I literally have not pulled sumo since last year. Maybe I'm doubting myself.

Mine started noticing the results I was getting, plus I think she heard me talk enough about lifting that she figured she might as well give it a try

I'm telling you, it's contagious! :)

There are different levels of female bodybuilders. Bikini/athletic bodies come to mind. :)

Definitely tried that logic with her too, just was met with other excuses. lol oh well c'est la vie!

And yes, that is a powerlifting techique for gaining strength. If you want to push your 1RM up, it's a great way to do it

Haha yeah, ultimately she has to like it and want to pursue it herself. Sounds like a good program. I don't know that I'd be eating enough to support a PL program but at least I have a baseline and you know I will try pushing it to the best of my ability. Appreciate the sound advice, Swanky pants. :)

not a full scale pl program, just a good rep/set range to gain some strength. A PL program would be quite a bit more intensive. You should be fine with your current diet if you wanted to give it a shot for a few weeks and see what happens

Today was supposed to be high rep legs and shoulders but my hip flexors and shoulders weren't cooperating. Hip Flexors were tight and both shoulders felt bummy. Still letting my back rest, and I already popped some PRE-WO so there was no turning back. Today's workout was kind of thrown together last minute. Did some heavy box squats and single legged movements. Finished up with quick intervals with no rest. It's actually supposed to be 3 rounds for 100 reps but my quads were already smoked! Def going to need my BCAA's tonight! I don't know if I will be walking outside tonight. It's been raining pretty hard all day.

Split squats are friggin killer!!!

You are correct, sir! Trying to incorporate more single legged movements (band walks, single leg glute bridge, split squat, rdl) and I've noticed it's definitely helped with activating my glutes and squat drive. All of those also kill my glutes. :)

Absolutely. I like really high rep walking lunges. Like 100 reps as fast as possible

I am jealous of your glutes (autocorrect really wants this word to be "flutes") and would need a wheelchair on standby if I attempted 100 in a row after squats :p

Lol, I like them as a finisher and usually have to sit on my bench for 5-10 minutes before climbing the stairs or my face sometimes ends up meeting the floor. Lol

I did 50 walking lunges in a row after my morning walk today. In the back of my mind I was thinking, "I hate Swanks for giving me this idea." Haha, but once I sat down it was all gravy. Going to try and shoot for 100 eventually. :p

Any good audiobook suggestions out there? Looking for motivational stuff, but open to anything that might be interesting to listen to on my walks. Onto the workout. My shoulders have finally started to feel a little better so I wanted to work on those today. My Push Press is sooo weak!! I push like a girl. That's never been a strong movement for me. On top of that, I smacked myself square in the nose on the 5th set like a goof! Didn't get my head out of the way fast enough. That wasn't fun either. But I shook it off and continued on because there's no crying in weight lifting. I have to say clean and jerks were really fun and also the best part of this workout. First time doing those and I will definitely be keeping them in my routine.

I've always found Anthony Robbins to be a great guy to listen to. He just has this way of making you realize that you have so much more potential than you allow yourself and then he tells you how to tap into it. It's true for every one of us but he brings it to full fruition.

Eckhardt Tolle is good.

Nothing by Nietzsche though. Trust me. Lol

Sorry for the nerd humor.

A game of ice and fire series is awsome!! Im listening to a game of throne for the second time now.

Roy Dotrice does an increadible job narrating the book. I think he has the world record for the most character voices in a novel or series.

Highly recomended!!!

lol that was meant to be a Song of ice and fire....i feel like a dumbdumb now.

But yeah I cant wait for The Winds of Winter to come out im stoked!

For those of you who havent read the books yet (or even seen the series for that matter) the most important thing to remember is that there are no good guys or bad guys, everybody dies, and its all perspective based.

I wish I would have known those three things when I started

Its a perfect analogue for real life

Unfortunately it's not supposed to be out until 2015. But it definitely is the best series I've ever read.

i know...its sad...whats not promising is GRRM said "itll be done when its done; to tell with timelines-they never work"

I've listened to some of his stuff before. His voice is so commanding and he makes a lot of great points. Wouldn't bother with his seminars but his videos are great. :)

Eckhardt Tolle is good.

You win one Internet for today. I listened to "Power of Now" on my walk. Finished 3 chapters and looking forward to the rest of the audiobook! Very enlightening.

Thanks for the recommendation! Heard lots of great things about Game of Thrones. I've seen some episodes and to be honest it didn't really catch my interest but maybe the audiobook will be different. :)

Has Morgan Freeman narrated any books? His voice is awesome. He could narrate "Everyone poops" and it would sound enthralling.

Mississippi Burning and the pelican brief- he mainly does voice overs for tv now though.

Ive actually had a chance to meet him-hes a really nice guy and I bet hed be fun to work with.
Granted it could have all been a show because it was a meet and greet...but hell he is a wonderful actor!

Yeah the power of now is a really thought provoking work. His story is pretty engaging.

100 walking lunges

Yeah, so I'm pretty sure I won't be able to walk tomorrow after all those squats. Putting yesterday's carb up to good use! Front squats have helped me tremendously when I transition into back squats. It's a good reminder for me to keep my torso and chest more upright and not to cheat/good morning the weight up. Still not going super heavy on those but I can definitely feel where I've improved. Really proud of myself for finishing with lunges. I told myself I'd stop at 50, then just 10 more, until I hit 100. :)

My legs are sore just from reading that post.
