Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Those J hooks are rediculous for pulling the bar out and being tight. You definitely need someone helping in that rack. Solid arch going on. The bar is coming down with much more control now so that looks good. Keep playing with your foot angle...toes more in, out, etc. I like mine more in to give me more of a push towards my head but you just might need them more out for the stability. I would definitely keep the belt too.

Yeah that rack at work ****ing blows. I wont squat there anymore either. This week will be better, more people will be at my gym in the evenings. I'll see how it feels with my toes in a bit more, if my hips allow it

Critique is more than welcome.

I see the slightest of butt lift. I'll take Dan Green's advice and get my feet out a hair more.

I'll gave to try moving my feet out a bit, seems like.I'm.always fighting butt lift

Smacked those reps! Just keep spreading and bending the bar throughout and that should minimize the loss of tension. It's really hard to stay tight and descend fast, but it's worth striving for. You'll find the right spot for your feet, it just takes time.

This one made my morning

The DI looks hot...

Ha! I'm fairly confident that every services basic is a joke, except usmc. There were several smokin hot DIs there when I was.

I'm gonna post that on **** My LPO Says on FB just to stir the pot with the navy.

Thanks man. I think the bar spread was one cue I forgot to focus on. Next time!

Benching doesn't look bad but I think your legs could be a little tighter, they look kinda shaky

Yup. I think once I get my feet comfortable, the legs should stop wobbling.

These low carb days blow. I just wanna stuff my face with mashed potatoes right now.

once your legs are tighter you should get more out of them and thus a bigger bench.

As far as the low days, yeah.. They suck..
But they make the high days that much better when you watch your muscles fill up like balloons

Totaled 1435 took a few rps records for total and bench left pounds on the platform in my squat (500) and bench (375). Had more on both but got called on depth for my opener even with my handler calling me. My coaches had me take the opener again and I buried it. Then jumped to 500 coach didn't want to take to much of a jump but I had a lot more in me. Bench I just smoked and my pull was 560 not my best but ill take it as I'm really trying to break my tendency to hitch.

Nice freaking work man

Thank you I was looking for 15+ but the day dictates the performance. It was my 2nd meet so I'm still learning. I started with thoughts of bodybuilding but through exposure, particularly rodja in our past discussions, found I like lifting heavy things much more then dieting.

I was wondering how that went! Good ****in job man, that's awesome. Solid bench press! Lemme know if you want to head up to Boston in October for the next RPS

I'm still lookin at taking the 198 Squat & Total. How was the meet overall? I keep hearing more good things about RPS.

I helped coach the first day and it was actually kind of scary the mono had just been painted so the latch was getting stuck. A bunch of squats came very close to getting dumped out on the re rack and what made it worse was they had some little crossfit girl running it. They were short on spotters so a few of our guys ended up volunteering to help. Other then that I'd almost say it ran too fast with very little time to recover during the other flights. Besides that it was run very well and I will be doing the next RPS meet in nov.

Thanks I was happy with it for sure but I'm gunning for 15 this next time around.

You got it no problem what's the currents?

Nice what's the currents?

Only true max I have now is a 565 squat. Dumped 585 short of lockout. Using 300 and 525 to base training maxes off of. Ditched the suits, doin AM raw modern with a team.

Ive been following their FB feed and it sounds like they're getting all sorts of good stuff. At least the mono will be dried off for me :P

15 next time, dude! That was a well put together video. Would like to see your other lifts, but that 375 was a solid, solid effort.

Using 565 as your training max though you'll have a day when it comes meet time, records should be easy. I watched your bench vid I couldn't completely tell but it looks like your glutes aren't fully active. I get mine real tight when I set up and it sets everything downstream into place I'm on my toes though, just my observation.

Thanks for looking man. Not even sure if I was squeezing my glutes or not. Everyone keeps finding something that I can do better. Lemme know if you have critique on any other of the vids. I'm all ears.

Now that this is brought up, I can see where I do this as well. I think of it not as my butt resting on the bench, but rather my butt barely touching the bench because everything is tight. Does that sound right NYiron Good finding!

Note to self: Check out Rodja's butt next time he benches.

Dirty

I notice that a lot though with arches and foot placement like all of yours. Everything just seems placed perfectly. Like it's a perfect arch shape from your feet to your chest, and a bench press pad just happens to be touching your butt.

I've noticed that in you two guys videos ^^

Very interesting point NYIron. I know I don't do this.

Edit: thread moves fast. Meant Rodja and herderdude.

For me my glutes and my heels are my set up if they're set, heels driving to the floor and glutes squeezed, everything else falls into place.

Used wrestling shoes for years and then I got a pair of Merrel barefoots. Both have phenomenal grip and you can get a much better push through the legs.

I bought some Merrel barefoots just for wearing around. Sole started peeling off! I think I got the cheap versions.

I'll go to the sporting goods store tomorrow and pick up some wrestling shoes. Hopefully it'll put 100lbs on my pull instantly :p

Good seein ya around again

So this is my last set of 450 and my 515x3. I was on my toes again with 450 and was having trouble pushing out on them. Hip flexors weren't feeling it at all and I had trouble getting my hips into the bar. I compare the position and push through the sides of my feet at 450 and 515. 515 felt great and I felt a nice pop up because of it. I need to reciprocate that feeling.

So, my ****ing right hip is frustrating the crap out of me. SI joint possibly? Just feels blocked when trying to open. Ideas?

Ya screw hips man...I had that whole month of July doing no serious lifting and then I squatted on monday and my hip is acting up. I think it is my psoas.

I feel 110% everywhere but the left hip...may have to make a visit to the chiro and/or get some ART done.

Maybe try some banded distraction work in the position you are trying to fix. Might force the hip into position.
