Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Shin guards... Cheap, effective, high value for ease of use, and completely removable when your done with deadz and moving on to accessory work

I have them, but don't use them much. I only use them at the meet and actually forgot them this last time. I had to use my friend's GF's socks.

Hmm...where to go with the jokes. So many possibilities.

I cry a little bit and then stop acting like a *****...

Seems to work.

I just wear long socks and sweats.

So, recommendations on cheap, decent knee wraps? They'd be my first pair. I was thinking I might wrap up for a couple of training session and use the wraps on my 2nd and 3rd attempt for an upcoming meet. I also might be able to borrow some knee wraps, but I'm curious as to what you guys might recommend. If it matters, my fed would be SPF.

I wrapped all 3 attempts. I have some EFS Heavies, 2.5M, that you can buy off me. They're cast like though, not for me. You'll also need someone to wrap the for you. Herder and I both like APT Blue Arrows. They stretch like hell and have a good rebound. Inzer Z Wraps are similar. Rodja wore the Inzer gripper wraps, which look pretty cool.

SPF allows almost anything.

I really want to try out some 3m wraps next. The 2m wraps give me some good rebound, but they separate whenever I hit the hole. I definitely love my Blue Arrows and I love the rebound effect.

Guess I need to try some 2.5m wraps for my next USPA meet, only used 2m.

Thanks, but I probably wouldn't be able to use heavy wraps anyways, as I think I'd need more time to adjust to and learn the wraps.

I like Blue Arrows. Stretchy, they work, and don't throw anything off. It'll help your knees track better. If you email APT and tell him what kinda squatter you are, he'll tell ya what to get.

I deadlifted in some Metal DL Socks today. ;)

I like them, but they don't make my shins bullet proof. :(

Yeahhhh I know they won't be bullet proof, but even if it just allows the bar to slide easier then I'm fine with that. I bleed, which is what it is, but I can at least cover it up lol

Vids in a bit. Shoulders were snap, crackle, and poppin tonight. No bueno. Severe lack of energy all day but I made the most of my Bench and JM Presses. I actually feel very confident in my benching now.

Critique is more than welcome.

I see the slightest of butt lift. I'll take Dan Green's advice and get my feet out a hair more.

There's some minor tension loss at the bottom on the chest, but nothing big. I think if you got a handoff that your scapula would be in a better spot as well.

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that if you brought your feet a little closer together you
Could minimize that leg shake which seems to indicate that you are losing driving power. I could be totally wrong here, but it's what it looks like to me. Nice lifts though, either way.

Agreed. Other guy there was just doin some random circuit type ****. Next week I don't have to stand duty so I can lift in the evenings at my gym and get help from someone. Tips for the loss of tension?

Nope you're right, I definetly wobbled. I used to bench with more narrow footing and I more recently brought the stance out to minimize wobble. I'm still playing around with a good foot placement, and tight hips ain't helping. Good eye, man.

The handoff will solve most of that. What helped me is to squeeze the mid traps and lats as hard as possible at all times and keep my feet tight. However, I'm on my toes and your feet are flat.

I finally figured out leg drive so I'm not gonna jinx it and get on my toes lol

Handoff and back tightness it is then. I cramped up fricken bad tonight.

One thing I noticed not mentioned yet, you move your feet a lot after unracking the bar.

Good call. I think I'm still fishing around for what's most stable. I should probably do that before I unrack it, huh.

Keep the tips comin! I'm determined to not suck at this lift anymore.

Have you ever thought about setting a foam roller where your arch would be, setting your feet while resting on the foam roller and once you're set, remove the roller? I bet that would take some thought away from keeping your arch while setting your feet.

Yup. I sized them right up with my Bates. Adidas has some sick ass ones with wooden heels.

Good to know. I hate ordering clothing/shoes online...

I'm looking budget till I find the Pendlays I want but those Adi's look awesome with the wooden heel

I did in the past but I didnt have the mobility then. I'll give it a try again.

I've never done any powerlifting, but I figure there's gotta be some kind of aid for everything as far as lifting goes. I'm just throwing ideas out there. I'm not a smart man though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I wouldn't. Simulate the meet conditions as much as possible. Your mobility isn't the issue and it's more of adjusting to the new foot placement.

Roger. My right outer hip is still feeling off. I'm hoping once that clears it'll feel better getting a more stable foot. I'm avoiding going back to that narrow foot position, as I don't feel as locked in as I do now.

What's your opinion on belts and benching? Trid both tonight and my entire core felt tighter being able to push against it.

If it helps, then go for it.
