13 Weeks to RPS Rawdawg Nats: Herder's PUUUGHE Comeback

**** ya! I knew you were gonna use it

Like I was gonna be able to just LOOK at it for a month!

The crazy part was that my raw stuff was killing it today. I almost took the 365 without the slingshot.

Oh! And then the assistance.

CAT Bench
225x5x5

Dead Bench
245x2x1 nothing left

Band Resisted Rolling Tri
100x3x10

BB Curl/Band Curl

Band Tri Ext/Catback Lat Pulls

That came with the standard stuff! 37 bucks for a squat rack (since sold) a ton of plates, and a bunch of bars. Even a harness to exercise the neck!

Kid I was telling you about got 1st place 181 amateur this weekend. What meet was it? Benched 355 pulled 4 something. 85?

That's real good, man! That was the PA State Meet. I saw a couple guys I've met from the Pgh area that competed there. Had a guy open 198 single ply went 500/385/550 and a Junior SHW went 650/435/555.

I wasn't sure my back would be ready for that meet. Now I'm worried that I might've peaked for July 27 with three weeks until my meet!

Yeah he did a good job for sure, hes still 18 too. He lost over 100 pounds since like a year or two ago. And those are some pretty good numbers too.

I'm sure you'll be fine just be smart about the training and don't let up too early.

7/29 Heavy Pulls

Today was very disorganized. I need to put my gear in my brother's truck and let him take it out of town with him until my meet's over. Felt like I had a small epiphany about getting my hams tight and pulling fast, though.

Convo Raw

Worked up to 405x5
455x0 jumped off floor but almost ripped callus off again so I dumped it
475x0 I have no idea how to set up and get tight with straps, it's ugly AF to watch.

Put on Metal Pro Squatter (twice. Needed plastic bags)
405x1
455x1
475x1 PR
Straps up
500x1 PR
Had to use wrist straps, but grip is never an issue, so I'm fine with it. Just need a couple more weeks for the hand to heal up.

Squatter Squats (straps up)
135
225
315
405
455 none even close
Straps down
455 still Denver squatting

Oly Squats
135x20 something. Quads were very very tight.

I'm thinking it's about time to have a slight backing off. I'm going to go through with this week, not hit openers next week but instead do a deload and then head into the meet. Hopefully I'll be dialed right in.

You'll dial in I'm sure man. Awesome geared PRs bud

The first time I thought I had the suit in good, and then I went to grab the bar and I thought my hammy was coming off! After a redo it was much better. I'll upload the 500. Even if there were an unlimited gear with wrist straps and lax judging fed, I would still have gotten three reds, but I locked my hips through for a smidge of time, so I'm calling it.

I'm just pumped I'm in the 500 club sumo and conventional!

Pulls:
315
365
405
455
475
500

Squat:
225

Good job man. Ive never seen your upper body so red (from the suit) lol You make me itch to get into gear again lol

You'll get back into it soon enough, man! You're gonna love multi-ply, I just know it.

You aren't kidding about the pressure. I can't tell about my discoloration, I'm frickin red/green colorblind lol. Looks like my upper back still has a bunch more work to do. I didn't get it tight before I pulled at all. That's how I like it during conventional, but it nabbed me on sumo.

I can't tell if I was shaking the camera which made it look like the whole shed was shaking or if the whole shed was shaking.

Yep, first time straps up anything. My squats were super high and I even said that as I was grabbing air in the deadlift. I ran out of room for air! I was sitting there with my mouth wide open and no air would come in. I've been in that situation many a time before, but usually it's because of an arm around my neck (theirs or mine) or a piece of body stuffed into my mouth. We had a guy on my high school team who was a master at the Fat On Face (FOF) maneuver. 5'7" 245 and he was eligible to wrestle 152 if he got his body fat down.

Congrats on the PRs.

Looks like you need more rows to strengthen that upper back though. Why strap ups on all sets? Suit sounds pretty tight.

I've been gone for a while, not sure if you have a meet coming up or something.

Just effing around in my new suit. I've done briefs before, so I wanted to see what the straps were all about. I definitely have slacked on my rows of late. I'm going to be doing chins AND rows 3x/week in the future. Upper back definitely needs to catch up.

This is my voodoo floss setup. For those who don't know, bicep tendon pain from lifting is almost always related to bony processes in the shoulder pinching the upper bicep, causing it to be effectively shorter.

This pain, which usually comes from packing in your hands very tight on a low bar back squat, manifests in the biceps tendon. I have a lot of material in the crook of the elbow to cause some flexion gapping, and I have it tight in the upper bicep, lower bicep, and upper forearm.

Now let's bench!

7/31 Bench!

Worked up to 275x3
295x1 smokage
315 same deal
340x1 long grinder. Bicep still acting up. I need to do more than I am right now.
Add slingshot
295x9

Pin Press
245x5
275x3
295x1

Kroc Row
155x17 PR

First time I did both arms back to back. That was rough.

Band Assisted Pull-Ups (pause at bottom, hold at top)
15,12,9

Benching went great until I went for a PR double. Everything moved like butter. My arm is just continuing to bug me. I have to get some liniment for it, I'd imagine. Hopefully a week of rest will do it, too. What sucks is it only bothers me for the first rep. I wish I could say to my handoff guy at the meet "Let this first one squish me and then save my ass. I'll hit the second on FOR SURE!".

Bicep static stretching, bb rolling, voodoo flossing, and anything else. Anyone have suggestions?

Oh yeah, I handed everything off to myself today, too. So that made things harder. Still, gotta hit more than one bench to go 9-for-9.

Did I beat you Sean? Or are we calling foul because I used big plates? Or you guys can call me out for body English, I just want to get better.

Damn..you beat me! Body English is allowed ;)

That's it...Rodja and I are gonna hang chains off them next week

I got chainzz! I'm gonna do it first! 2 chainz to be specific, both 7ft and weighing 9lbs apiece. Lowe's is a terrible resource for chains, I'm getting more bands damnit.

To be fair, Rodja has 22 or 24 with 145. And he doesn't slump like a mofo when he pulls sumo.

I already hit up 150 +20. I just gotta get it for more than 10...bleh, vomit

Tryin to think how you could do them with bands. Meadows Rows w/ bands would definetly work.

There's CG units that work on buoys and whatnot, and they have chain's galore. I might try to grab a few feet.

Yeah, I might not go up in weight until the reps get out of hand. Try to improve form as well. I have 130s that are gym quality. I might just row those up to full height and go with that. Or start hitting them without straps. That's probably what I should do.

Dude benched seven something single ply weighing 231!?!?!?!!

I started reading the facebook updates, then I wanted to see some of the little tiny girls hitting 400lb squats, then through the magic of wandering on the youtubes, I was stuck on Kara Bohigian for about an hour.

Kara is HAWWWWWWWWTTTTTTTTTT. If you would like to know the proper pronunciation for that word in all caps, it can be found on this video:

The World Games are on right now! Some chick just smoked a 190kg (418#) bench in the superheavy division. Men come on at 2:00 pm colombia time, or 3:00 eastern time.

Representing the USA is Nick Weite, who has squatted 903 in competition with a hip-width stance and has pulled 800 in training.

Never heard of the World Games lol....

If you think that's bad, you should see some of the other sports in it. Fistball, Korfball, Ultimate Frisbee. It's a showcase of 33 sports that aren't in the Olympics.

Here's the link (I hope). Men start in a half hour

Sorry, medal ceremony at 2:45. Men should be hittin it soon after that. I wonder what we're gonna see...

Cal Yngvar Christensen and Andrey Konovalov both hit 1025 squats. Christensen's 1003 second attempt and his 1025 third was a JUNIOR world record, Konovalov hit the Open world record on his second attempt and got redlighted for depth with 1041 on his third.

Benching in ten...

IPF, Single Ply. Squats deep as ****, benching has you hold at lockout for about three seconds before you start, and they will not hesitate to redlight for the slightest technicality. Christensen benched 694 (he made three at 694, no idea why he got redlighted first two), Konovalov hit 782, and Teslov (world record holder in IPF for bench) hit 793 and missed 804.

Konovalov has an 1807 subtotal (820kg) for a big lead, but it goes off of Wilks score, and I have no idea what these guys weighed in at (it was a lot, though).

Time to hit the gym, follow the link above, go watch the pulls and be amazed.

Granted its only the world games but I think it's cool that powerlifting is being promoted as a real sport at some international games. I'm stuck on duty and can't watch the live feed
