Swanson-Cube Method to July Comp

New PTs coming out of school can do the same manipulations as a Chiro where as law prohibited it before. So I'm not sure if you can find a younger PT who can do that around you or not. Don't really need Chiro much for a slap tear. But good to have. It's pretty sweet how much a good therapist will be able to do in a few years.

No I need a chiro for my wrecked back; I'm a once e2w type of guy.

I had a couple microdiscectomy procedures in sept of last year, and religious chiro care has kept me from having more.

Old, broke down guy problems. ;)

This is interesting; prominent heart surgeon linking low-fat diets to heart disease.

Well soon the PT can do everything a Chiro can... Although the Chiro will still say he has magic healing powers and his school was better than PT. (just making fun of some jackhole I once went to who did nothing but give me a neck that never stops popping and cracking).

Too much or too little of anything is bad so I believe it. You need healthy fat because fats are what do all the important things in your body. Make proteins look like they have a minor role in the body.

"Bench" Day-Reps

Warm up, mobility, etc.

INCLINE BB BENCH
Bar, 135, 185, 225
245x8x4
No pain at all. I'm pretty weak from not doing these forever; I used to incline more than I flat benched by about 45#. Back in the day.

INCLINE DB TWIST PRESS
50x12x3
Sick pump but these hurt. Started with 80's. no bueno.

BW DIPS
BWx15x3
These didn't hurt as much as I just felt unstable.

Bunch of curls & tricep stuff, BB style. Also did a couple sets of Meadows rows just to try em. Those ****ers are AWESOME.

Overall it was a good session all things considered. Shoulder is sore, but not unbearably so.

30' LISS treadmill.

Anterior, type II-and I misspoke. They suspect it's a SLAP lesion, but would want to do arthroscopic procedure to make that a definitive diagnosis. He's "95% sure" based on the imaging.

They are recommending physical therapy, rest and possibly cortisone injections. Of course, I'll likely do none of those and probably get cut this winter.

This makes sense, my last labral tear didn't show up on MRI, and he didn't see it until he actually went into the capsule when he was in there to fix tears in my infra and supra. You cannot diagnose a labral tear with an open procedure - you have to go into the capsule to see it.

Think of it like this: surgeons refer to labral tears like the hands of a clock. The tear is from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock for example (this is also the 'anterior to posterior' in the SLAP acronym.)

Usually, they won't do surgery (if it shows up on MRI) until the tear is at the 6 o'clock position.

In my experience, nothing any PT or chiro is going to do will help. If its torn, it's torn and no "adjustment" will be able to "un-tear" it.

I'd prolly go w one injection, you might get some relief. No more than one though - multiple injections in the same area can do more harm than good.

And you're going to want to stay away from any movement that pushes the humerus superiorly, ie dips...

Good job on them incline presses bro. You're far ahead of me. I think my PR is 225x6, lol.

Is Lilly still structuring your program? I wonder how he will work around the shoulder issue.

Yes, but I hadn't brought it up. I figured I'd do everything the same and just sub incline for flat exercises where prescribed.

I'll bet I could do board presses with the SlingShot tying my shoulders up as well.

I was wide ass awake @ 0230, so I threw down some Jet Fuel coffee and hit it.

Mobility/foam roll/old guy ****

35' LISS treadmill @ 130 HR.

Typically not THAT early. I'm usually an 0430-0500 guy.

Really isn't much to do at that hour.

I feel ya. I'm either real early like that or real late. No in between. By the way your incline is insane I wish I didn't have ***** shoulders.

When do you go to bed? Damn

Family threatening to ruin the comp on 8/17. :(

My niece has decided that's the day she's getting married. She's the first of all the nieces & nephews to get married...and...

She's gay. Her being gay is not the issue. The first wedding of any of the kids being a gay marriage is HYOOJ with the family. We're all very happy for and support her, and I'm not sure I can get out of this one.

Blah. I'm happy for her because she's had a hell of a struggle, but really? 8/17?? C'mon.

Ask if you can have the ceremonies held at the gym where the comp is being held.

My SIL threatened to stab me "no less than 15 times" if we didn't go.

There's no reasoning with Mexican wimmenz. Looking to move it forward or back a week.

If you didn't read this today...well, do it now.

How long could you train healthy using sub maximal weights like that? Part of the reason I love the cube is because it spreads out those ME days and my joints don't hurt nearly as bad.

I love 5/3/1, but even with an e4w deload that program took it out of me. However, would one program this in the same manner? Or would you even need the deload?

Second I pulled 395x12 w/ 5/3/1, I realized how bad that hurt. Granted I can't do crap for reps now (not like I care) but I'm moving more weight now and I don't feel like I was hit by a truck.

Yeah, I read that Sam Byrd article, too. I like the training ideologies. His particular method is a little too abstract for my liking, but it's highly similar to the way I trained a year or 2 ago. I might go back to it in September.

Juggernaut 2.0 is on scribd fyi.

And a new list of reading material is formed...

I found the Juggernaut 2.0 on Scribd on 5/30/2013. It is downloaded onto my work laptop.
Rather than work tomorrow I will try to look at the two and get a sense of similarities/ differences.

The juggernaut method doesn't do much for this guy. Seems like it's more complicated than necessary.

I'm totally on board with submaximal training, but I'm not convinced it need be as complicated as JM 2.0 makes it.

Which is why I'm not doing it currently.

Too much work to program (or so it seems) for right now. Maybe when I have more time.

There are things you can learn from it so it was still worth the read.
