They can increase your threshold for glycogen compensation.
You don't need to, many don't. I'd focus more on protein as your ability to synthesis protein is greater which can lead to more muscle mass. If on a keto or carb cycling diet there's no need to change because of AAS use.
Some of this also depends I the type of AAS you choose to use
