Sean's Powerlifting Journey

Diet details..meh. I want to remain strong and stay shy below 210

I killing myself trying to reach 210... Lol

I'm 175-180 naturally. It took me almost a year to get to 195. Now I'm on gear and trying desperately to reach 210..... I won't be happy till I'm 220

I liked 220-225 when I was there but my uniforms didn't fit, especially with body armor, and I always worried about being taped off for weigh ins. Took me forever to get there from 165

Lol. We got the new plate carriers when I started packing it on: fully adjustable. So happy not worrying about having to tape out anymore :)

Eh I have to wear mine underneath my uniform because I deal with the general public...less intimidating I guess. My last tape out wasn't bad. Fasted 18 hours before and sucked my stomach in.

Oh. Lol. Forget about that with you Homeland types

Suck that gut!

I do same amount of calories on off days as most recovery occurs then, don't think it really matters in the grand scheme of things.

Nice pressing brah.

Thanks bud. Felt good.

I agree on the off day cals. I think if I have 2 days in a row off, then the 2nd day will be slightly lower. I'm horrible with diet. All I know how to do is eat a crap load. Whatever I've been doing to lean out so far has worked, so I just won't fix it if it ain't broken. I'll see how the calorie count goes for a few days before I say **** it.

Just track total calories and minimum protein, it will help keep you sane. It's what I do, everyday...

Add sprints/GPP if you need to lose more weight without adjusting cals.

Yeah I'll most likely do that. I enjoy food too much and the GPP will be good for me.

I counted macros for a year to the T...every day..pre packaged pre made food for the week. Then I realized I was insane and not a bodybuilder

Ahem...

I'm just hurt you said macro counters are bodybuilders. :(

Some of us are just fatties. ;)

As an aside, you see Lilly is going to do a BB show in '14? That sh1t is crazy.

noooo no. I mean I used to pretend to be a bodybuilder, eating 8 meals a day every 3 hours with pre planned macros trying to bulk and be huge. I didn't grow until I gave up calorie counting.

countin calories and loosing weight tho, is versatile.

I'm jus fukkin witcha.

What's all this gluten free stuff? Im seeing it everywhere. Necessary at all if you don't have an allergy? I can't seem to understand.

I dont get it either. I bought some gluten free raisin bread yesterday to try. "Hm gluten free is supposed to be healthy I guess"

like I care...I had BBQ ribs and baked beans 2 days in a row. I'll stick with man food

Guessing people attribute it to feeling ****ty and poor digestion, I dunno.

But Celiac disease is a real reason to avoid gluten.

Celiac-definetly.

Carbs making me feel ****ty? Non-sense. Carbs and squats are the 2 things that make the world turn

Goes hand in hand with paleo-tards.

Yeah I went through the whole bodybuilding phase myself. Then I thought about what I'd look like sporting a mankini and thought otherwise.

No, it's not necessary if you don't show gluten intolerance.

Some people may go on a gluten-free diet for a while, and when they try to revert back to eating gluten foods they have averse reactions. They may cite such an anecdotal case as evidence that they were gluten-intolerant or had celiac's; in fact, this is akin to avoiding milk for years and trying to drink milk again. Through avoidance, your body downregulates the enzymes necessary for digestion/processing of such foods, and so your intolerance to that protein or that sugar is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I think the issue is overplayed and sensationalized for sure. One thing that may be worth considering is that if you avoid a certain class of foods, like gluten foods, it may have an effect on your gut microbia. As some have suspected, more and more links are beginning to be drawn between gut microbia and CVD, metabolism, hormone levels, and other aspects of health and fitness. Whether the change in your gut microbia from going gluten-free would have a net positive or negative effect on you, I don't know.

Meh, I'm not allergic nor do I show adverse reaction to consumption, so ima keep eating it!

Smartest dudes on AM post in the PL journals. /fact.

Exception, see Zir.

got a little confidence back today.

330, 89% of 370. i wanted to do a little more than my opener, but less than what i dumped last week.

everything looked and felt ok. i widened the stance just a little. back is still bothering me and stiffened up a little, so i stopped.

Depending on how confident 325-330 feels for a opener, I'd make a bigger jump to the 2nd attempt. Then maybe hit 390-410 for a 3rd. I do better off of bigger jumps though.

Anyone know how to make a ghetto SSB? I don't have a puscy pad or that blue thing. Towel? What about the yoke part though.

Wrap the wrist wraps around the bar to make the handles. By wrist wraps, I mean ones that look like these: Invalid Link Removed not the ones that are like these Invalid Link Removed

I tried it once before when Rodja mentioned it. I'll give it another shot tonight. Maybe my towel wasn't fat enough when I tried last time. I'll post up pics/vid if it works.

I like it, nice work sir. If I may ask one q (because I f'n hate nitpicking when my form sucks); any way to get the chest up & drive your head back out of the hole? I don't see forward tilt, but it seems your hips may jump a bit about 3-4" up.

If I'm wrong, please smack the ****e out of me.

Either way, f'n awesome you squatted strong.

390 might be a bit ambitious, i left off on my template at 386, and my struggles are well documented.

i think the bar speed might be there for a 330 opener, then maybe 350 - staying away from 345 per herderdude's suggestion. fck dude, i don't know for the third, maybe 375 depending on bar speed on 2nd?

i'd actually be happy with that...

dude, you're right. i've been struggling keeping the chest up. i think i did a little better today. i think it was you that gave me the 'drive my head into the bar' queue. today, my queues were: sit back, explode out of the hole and chest up.

i think widening the stance gave me a little more confidence too. i was struggling finding the groove with it narrow. i'll prolly keep it like this, a little narrower than before, but not too narrow. this might sound stupid but it's easier for me to keep tension and sit back with a wider stance...

I agree on the wider stance...easier for me too. Right at the edge of bringing the abductors in on the lift & opening the hips. That's my sweet spot for tightness.

That sounds really perverted/rapey out of context.

Napalm, try pulling the elbows up and back hard. This forces you to pinch the shoulders and keep the uper back tight and verticle.

duly noted sir.

i might go in monday for some light work. i'll give it a try then.

def will be thinking of that at the meet...

woo! suit bottoms on in 5 minutes

then sat for 5 minutes pouring sweat

My RE day went 405x5, 425x5 455x5....had to widen my stance big time. aside from having to push back hard with my hips I was barely shy from parallel and it was easy as hell

straps down all day?

ya I put the suit on last night to get a game plan for putting it on today. straps pulled me forwards way too much and I gotta get used to my hips in the suit. I think i coulda hit 455+ for reps easily but I was more wore out from the suit than anything.

will update in a bit here

That's the one thing I miss about gear, putting 450+ on my back and having it feel light as hell for reps.

honestly the weight was easy. the suit is what exhausted me.

gold bond and suit slippers were key in putting it on

it's pretty ****ing awesome

that's a great pic of where you need to be at the bottom. i really like how your shins are almost straight. a lot better angle than i have. and you're actually about 2 in below parallel. just great.

we have the same shoes...
