Highschool athlete thread

Before big games I shoot rabies......it gives me the edge I need and it's undetectable.

i am burnt like a lobster, went boating and kayaking with a bunch of buddied yesterday, gunnna do legs good thing i dont havta lay on a bench today
 
welll normally today would be a squat day, but being i am a lil burnt today i decided to deadluft

i was so pumped, but exhausted after that. overall a good workout.... PS that was straight bar deadlift
 
starting to throw cardio into my workout now, going do a few sprints down at the track. my buddies gunna start lifting with, ima afraid because one is 6ft 1 and 139lbs so i dont want to throw them off because of our lifting difference or have them try to mucb weight when ima away.
 
good run day, had a little get together wuth my friends the hot tub felt good on the legs
 
hello my friends, i have noticed that the worst part of my body is ny sides, so what are some good oblique workouts, i do raises with dbs and lumberjacjks with the cable but what else and how often
 
today was a good chest day, i added floor presses to the routine and i cant see them going away any time soon.. it felt weird doing them in the squat rack because ina the type of guy who only uses it fot squating. i tweek my back again. hoping it to be minor.. so for the next few days heat, ice, bengay in that order
 
ima iffy with adding videos or not, loyal readers what are your thoughts

the gym was empty, i was alone for a half hour.. than two treadmill people came in for the other twenty minutes i was there ... goood back and bis day, i skipped squating because my legs were dead because of a seven ob seven since my coach kept his top 7 in the whole time against the other teams top 7

Invalid Link Removedgood workout lately, have been slightly busy so sorry for not posting as much as usual, down to 185lbs due to starting into the cardio but it is going back up and i am stronger right now at 185 than I was at 190

trying to get my 13, almost 14 YO son into weights and just working out and being healthy overall. hes going into HS in the fall and i dont know really how to direct him with the weights.

For now I am just trying to get him into the gym for a few weeks just to get used to the gym, weights and some cardio work while I take 1-2 days a week soon to work on some outside stuff like biking and some sprinting.

im worried hes to young to maybe push him into a program so would appreciate anyones input.

i was going to work him into 5x5 or 5/3/1 type of things but i dont do squats or deads well myself cause of my own limitations.
 
i started lifting when i was in 7th grade so 12 or 13, sure i wasnt bench/squat/deadlifting or following a strict diet... but i know the two main reasons why i started was becauase of my sport and my buddy wanted us too..... so does your son have a sport to look forwarded too or you know another parent with a similar goal foe his son
 
He used to play sports but hasnt in a while. I am just looking for him to be active but during the summer I would like to see if I can get him into Bball again.

I plan on just getting him into some running and working something close to a starter lifting program. I figure let him feel his way around the gym a month and get used to pushing his muscles.

I may have him and I go to a strength and conditioning place so we can both learn proper mechanics for the major lifts and I could use them to fiz me up a bit. mobility issues.

In the end he needs to be more active for now.
 
Maybe one day just tell him hey get up, we're going to the store and ride your bikes there. Then the next just tell him to get up we're going to the gym. Being a bit forceful in this situation doesn't hurt. I was once like your son. I ended up weighting 230Ibs in my sophomore year. I'm trying to get down to 180 but it'll take some time. My parents never really forced me to work out so I never really did.
 
very good backworkout, everyyhing keeps moving up nicely... saw a goood deadlift 600, if that doesnt motivate someone i dont know what will
 
hexbar deadlufting was a little weird after doing straightbar but it helped me alot, good idea

Tjwoody, he needs to want to go, something needs to motivate him. My wifes little brother is a junior on the football team and I can't keep him from coming to the gym with me. He always ask how do I get big like you. Easy....steroids but not till your older. Anyways he needs motivation. Give him the right push and he'll be alright
 
yesterday chest workout was a nice one. it was packed so it was a struggle for everything it get to it. i did extra heavey close grip chain bench, boy arnt i feeling it
 
back and bis was a good one, everything is moving up with either reps or weights. nothing feels better than that,
 
reallly hit the deads today at 445 my grip failed me but im not gunnna complain. in there for an hour, a little short than normal but im not gunnna decline an offer to go out on the lake. im gunna start p90x yoga because it makes me feel good and i enjoy it. a little more info is that i fixed my form a little on my bench with the arch, it is a little awkard now but i believe it will help alot especially when i get use to it

yes, he wants to go just working to afford it right now. I am making him a deal, if I get him to gym I need 3 days per week and one day I want us to do some outdoor stuff be it biking, sprints, etc.
 
I'm in here brother avenger.. I played all 4 years HS ball and one year college as a WR (was WR and LB in HS at higher weight lol)
I also just applies for an asst coach position at a HS here in ct

I saw your first posts about vertical jump issues...
Ever heard of JUMP SQUATS?? ;)
 
i tried those but i just cant seem to get a good form, i basically been jumping onto things hahaha, keep trying to go higher

Sounds like hip mobility issues.. Jumping onto things is ok.. But adding weight to that.. And doing it with the bb on your back from a full squat will increase your power exponentially!! Start light.. Just the bar even. NEVER be afraid to learn from and go light. Humor me and yourself and try them again !

Is that not the log we r currently in? Lol
 
okay i will try them next legs day. my ups have improvred greatly throughout the course of this off season, is my sig showing up as a sig or like another peice of text, this app is great but it got some quirks

I played football in Junior High and High school but our couches did not make it mandatory to do Gym Workouts, none the less I was a Mike for 1 season :) (Central Line Backer) and had the best time of my life playing it even though I never trained before and this was down in mexico haha, but hey! I'm up to support a fellow Football dude and Fellow avenger!!

thanks bud, i was a saftey in middle school and ninth grade, sophmore year i was a mike but last year and this year i am an outside linebacker because i am one of the few kids that can line up man and in the box

Not bad bro! So you were what , a Robert back in 9th grade? Bad azz bro!! My 3 best friends and I were always (well when I played) the backer line , we played 1 mike, 1 sam , 1 willy and 1 robert :p!

Damn nice bro! How are those olympic lifts comming along? Usual saying is to get rid of your neck with a huge traps and bud , snatches get the job done! haha and for the explosiveness, nothing like explosive squats and cleans!
 
i can clean 225 for 6, i never maxed it put yet but when i do i will update!

Dont take a day of it for granted man. If I could go back knowing what I know now- I would have trained my ass off and tried like hell to go pro. No byll****, at your age, NOTHING is impossible. I'm only 24, but I envy your youth!!

My unconceived son is goin to be in the NFL (if he al desires) I will give him the tools and nurturing it takes.
 
i play in pa, a small aaaa school about 2hrs outside of pittsburgh. i am going for mpre academic. got my second sat back a week ago 1980, but my dream is johns hopkins and they are d3 so that is a good options. my biggesr issue big school brains small school athlete

Nice, I actually played linebacker in high school and I was a similar size (5'10" 195 lbs). I played will and mike positions. Sounds like you're almost ready for a promising season. John Hopkins happens to be a solid football program despite being d3. If that is an option for you I am sure you will have loads of fun
 
yupppers, their biochem program is so hard to get in to, im hoping football is the thing that kicks my resume into a golden one
 
Can't go wrong with academics and sports. Back when I played football I never understood the value of academics until much later in my career. Missed out on a ton of opportunity that way. Glad to see you got it down. So we're you planning on playing LB in college?
 
idk, i want to but with my size and attributes saftey is a little more my way, but ill play left bench if it gets me in there hahaha plus offensive is my main love, i just had some bosses ahead of me and i needed to wait my turn, i played jv for some o time trying to show my sruff o last year and my best game was 5 carries 250yds 4 touchdowns and a walk in pick six but my coach still said i was a defense juniors, da faq
 
Ya dude I say don't worry about that yet I was just curious. Like I mentioned earlier I was roughly the same size as you in high school and initially I was a free safety but because of my aggressive play I was moved to LB and I had a blast in high school before eventually becoming a strong safety in college. Remember that the numbers don't measure the man just put forth your best efforts lift and train hard and someone will find a spot for you.
