Same here to a degree. I only listen to Christian music nowadays but sometimes miss the adrenaline pushing secular stuff (only for the purposes of getting amped mentally for 5am/6am work outs)

That said, when I listen to some of the harder stuff (and Ive seen a few video's on GodTV) I often wonder if many of these bands chose the Christian genre ONLY b/c the field is not NEARLY as competitive as the secular arena.

I know I know, I am not supposed to judge but some of that stuff does not PRAISE GOD. No way! Not buying it. :p

I'm old school, I like good old southern gospel music when I lift. The new stuff is loud and irrevernet IMO.

ANYTHING by Third Day. That main singer dude not only has an incredibly unique voice, he seems to genuine about his love of Jesus every time he talks. Dude is the real deal IMO.

Third Day -"Take it all"

Keep in mind, there is often a certain level of interpretation needed for some of the heavier stuff. There is a large audience of people that will be reached by those kind of bands that won't be reached by traditional worship music.

Actually, that's a very good point ;)

Personally, I love the heavy type of music. It's only recently that I've started to appreciate worship music. Depends on my mood.

At one time I would have not listened to anything that made a joyful noise unto the Lord if it had not been for some of the heavy stuff. I've started to try and become accountable for what I listen to, knowing that it's a direct reflection of where my heart lies. Something that I struggle with as a sinner for sure.

So, yeah. I'm glad you can see that side of it!

Good stuff partner. We Christians all have varying paths to the Lord, the specifics are irrelevant ya know? ;)

This is what I was trying to say earlier, in the fact that different music genera can reach a wider spectrum of people to lead them to a saving faith and help strengthen the faith that they have.

I'm another fellow christian weightlifter. I tend to lean more towards contemporary christian music like third day.

I am a Christian weight lifter also. I Tend to listen to bands such as devil wears Prada a day to remember I try to listen to more Christian music but alot of it like kutless just sounds like they are trying to hard to be secular. Some of the few Christian bands I like are Chevelle and Norma jean

3rd day baby....wut wut

Lukehayd... You a fellow christian weight lifter? Glad to hear that!

I love me some Christian metal core. I enjoy looking up the lyrics and deriving meaning from them, they aren't always as straight forward as worship music tends to be.

With that being said.. You'll find me rocking out to some:

As I lay Dying, Blessthefall, The Color Morale, Demon Hunter, The Devil Wears Prada, Memphis May Fire, Pillar, Underoath, We came as Romans, Skillet

Also like: For the Fallen Dreams. But I'm not sure they are actually a band of Christians. But their music is extremely motivating for a workout.

Do you ever listen to Christian Rap? I like some: Tedashii, Flame, Lecrae ... Some good stuff there if you care for that type of music.

The lyrics from Demon Hunter: Carry Me Down...
"Save sorrow for the souls in doubt" is actually tattooed on my chest under "Matthew 25:46". Those lyrics spoke to my heart so much that I wanted to integrate them into my tattoo.

God Bless. Let me know what you think of any of those! Definitely appreciate this thread, btw!

right on, ever head destroy the runner? august burns red is one of my fave bands as far as metalcore goes, kinda scratchy live but they have some great jams. cant wait to see as i lay dying on july 4th at mayhem fest!

Rochester NY?

I never realized as I lay dying was Christian.

Burden of day

this is solid state (this is a sampler cd there are a bunch and the one i have is really good)

Finally, I was beginning to think no one here appreciated Christian metal lol. All the bands you listed are great, I've never listened to Haste the Day though Ill check them out.

Impending Doom , Gideon, Becoming the Archetype and The Crimson Armada are also good.

I have been fortunate enough to have seen something like 50 or 60 Christian bands in concert.

Many are great to listen to, but only a few (IMO) are the type you want to lift to; at least that is true for me. I need something to help drive me - something a bit harder and with more urgency.

So, in my now 53 year old opinion:

Kutless
Red
Thousand Foot Crutch
DC Talk (selected early cuts)
Delirious (selected cuts)
Flyleaf

IMO Kutless should be listed 1st through 10th.

I've connected a lot with switchfoots newer stuff, since they've gone fully independent.

I always encourage people to give them a listen when all they've heard is the mainstream dare you to move type of stuff.

and then there's the august burns red Christmas album haha

Chevelle is not Christian. They were signed with a Christian label or sub-label (?) but were not a Christian band. Kind of a screwed up deal. I still like to listen to their stuff though!

I'm gonna check sum of these Christian bands out on here, all I have that is Christian in my huge workout mix is skillet, def dig them tho, if there's sumthing simular to theyr style I'd love to check it out...

This is what I use Pandora for. They even have write-ups for all the bands so that you know if they are Christian or not. I started a station with Project 86 and now have so many bands on there that I love that I hadn't listened to before. Here's a good list:

Project 86
Demon Hunter
Blindside
Underoath
Disciple
Thousand Foot Krutch
Flyleaf
Fireflight
Seventh Day Slumber
Building 429

I knew I was leaving someone out. Seventh Day Slumber is terrific. Good catch.
