Eat Junk, Still Make Gains?

Hey hey guys....

All you guys have great theories...

You're right Lou, makes sense the body absorbs what ever u put into it...

Rodja? U got 2 more meals and it's 11:54?

Or it's a Sunday and I'm off. Regardless, I eat like this pretty much year-round and cooking daily is something I've done for a decade.

I ate a lot of crap yesterday and had plenty in the glycogen stores.

Mine are always full haha. How are your strenght gains btw?

I'm not on EST and I slept in until 11AM today. I have to load up for tomorrow night's sparring and I'm bringing the Prowler out of hibernation as well.

TX born and raised.

Freaking terrible right now. Got into a car wreck and it exacerbated my lumbar issues. That coupled with a lot of MMA has tanked the strength levels.

Wow dude! Sorry to hear about your accident! Take care in the holidays and be safe!

U got a Vette? Nice...
GM man I see

just bought it a few months ago....saved up for almost 2 years.....no exotic supps, just basic stuff....no fun, no girls no nothing lol. its worth it not to have any car payment. suffer for a while and pay cash. I'm gonna sell the TransAm if I get the right price....its highly modified and will take a specific buyer who is interested in a loud fast car....not a stock WS6. If nobody gives me my price? i'll keep it.

that is my white celica hiding behind the vette in the first pic lol.....i took those pics at the dealership right before I picked it up, so my celica was there....since I drove it there lol. just noticed that........

back to the topic.........you can eat junk if you have good genetics......its why many bodybuilders like lee preist get sloppy(20%) in the offseason and all he does is clean up his diet and he looks freaky come stage time..........its all about what your body can handle

Quick comments. I typed up a response and the am app crashed. Go figure. I think the body is more inclined to use a given amount of calories to build muscle instead of fat at a higher bf than a lower. I like to sit around 12-15 and eat maint. I feel I grow the most like that.

Also , "junk food" may provide more carbs/fats which in the short and long run may provide the energy needed in the gym. If your active all day you need a lot more carbs than someone who sits at a desk all day. A lot of people eat too clean and have a meal with all protein and no carbs. I noticed when I go too light on carbs and have no energy. The extra energy in the gym def helps in the workout and the better workouts build more muscle. So maybe someone is eating at maintenance calories. And the quality of food may not be the best but there is enough there and enough hard work to have good results at the gym. But I truly believe that a perfect diet is the key to that next level of physique. You can only get so big and so strong, until a change in diet is the only thing that would benefit you.

Anyways nice Celi. :)

My bro really liked celicas. Had two. He's building an mr2 now tho.

PVL, don't come here and wreck this thread man. I'll notify a mod.

BTW, quick asking fellow board members for free supplements and rep spots & stop trying to befriend them by following logs when all you're after is free product.

You've been reported more than once man, now just chill out.
Making this place look like bb dot com....

One more negative post and I'll inform a mod bottom line.

I don't think u eat at maintence ;)
I've seen those videos u do and those eating challenges...

I like my little celica lol.....it has a carbon fiber hood and some little 16" chrome rims etc.....they look sharp, reason I bought it....but the #1 reason i bought it was for the gas mileage on that little 1.8 liter! 30 plus MPG easy.....that is a nice celica though in that pic you got.....we got a few guys around here locally with cool celicas....I'll have to take some pics of mine, and post them in the future. it gets neglected by the camera with the other two cars.........

I think it all matters about choices when you go out to eat fast food, i've gotten to the point where i just don't enjoy eating any fast food or really sweets or anything. That being said if im with a bunch of friends or family and we end up at like McDonalds or something i'll try to make decent choices without looking like i care too much : ) but i usually pick up some grilled chicken never fried always avoid fries just no need for them and get water. So i can easily go to a McDonalds, Burger King, Chick fil a, and get a pretty good meal now you never know all the artifical sweetners and perservatives they use but just knowing what to avoid there is key, no frosties, i avoid fries no nutritional value.

I believe you can make gains or stay lean with junk food in your diet, if training permits but i just prefer not too usually i feel like crap after eating fast food and fast food is a Gateway food tehehe i find if i start eating fast food even a little my diet just continually gets worse till i see some fat gain then get myself back into gear.

My weakness is Buffallo Chicken Anything Pizza, Calzones you name it these are my weakness good thing they atleast a decent amount of protein in em.

This is true...

I like a ton of "junk" just taste better.
A lot of people seem to stay & in shape eating it.

U joking or are u serious?
Guess some ppl are lucky :)

You bet they are...

My friend eats a lot...and eats anything within her sight..but I have never seen her bulging or gaining a lot of weight. I eat watching out on every food I take and exerting a lot of effort to keep it minimal..and yet I seem to be gaining weight all the time :(

lol... Gained no fat?

Gained about 5 pounds in 2 and a half month of eating that. Pretty sure it was the sweat tea everyday with my lunch though. I think avoiding the drinks at fast food restaurants(and in general) sticking with water will keep most of the weight off of you. Lately I get two spicy chicken sandwiches from Chic-fil-a, make a double and throw away the extra bun. Not that unhealthy for something quick and tasty.

Just make it fit in your calorie budget and you'll be fine.

that mofo looks like a 20K cal guy actually LMFAO.......

I don't know if that's possible.
Just slow metabolism.

I know a guy who eats junk, eating out at mcdonalds, chick Fil a, & so on. Has a good amount of muscle and not a lot of fat.
He says he just tracks his macros and works out hard.

I don't get how that works for him, is it genetics?
Is it really him watching his macros? (it may not be healthy food but it works)

Anyone have any ideas?

As long as you check the stats behind the meals, especially from fastfoods, you should be fine. Best advice is to plan your meal ahead or even before you make that order. There's a few online resources you can use to build a meal from famous fastfoods like nutritionix calculator (just google it to see how it works). It actually helps me a lot since I'm always out on the field and I got no choice but fastfoods.

Sure, it will work, but his heart won't function correctly after his 40th birthday. McDonald's, despite being delicious, is one of the worst things you can put into your body. You are what you eat, and eventually, it will catch up to your buddy in the form of heart disease, joint problems, and a litany of other health conditons.

lol, I think we all got friends or ppl we see in the gym who just eat big and make crazy LBM gains and keep the BF low.
My old workout buddy would have a post workout meal and 4 scoops of muscle milk after every workout. He would ONLY use Muscle milk and when I asked him what else he is eating he said for breakfast he eats 8-10 eggs, 3 cups rice, then a 4 scoop shake. Also, during the day he will drink 2-4 scoops every 3 hrs. And this was on his non cheat days... His cheat days were KFC. 4 burgers, and 2 chicken breasts. And 2 fries. He managed to bulk from 160-200lbs in about 8 months. gained about 30lbs in lbm. The only supp he took was glutamine, fish oil, and creatine. Placed 3rd in a physique show in Cali where Phil Heath guest posed... Something like 60+ competitors in his division. Some people can eat all the crap they want and get away with it. But still, he was motivated to do it. And he reached his goals.
Moral: He learned what worked for him.
Regardless of health etc, he wants to compete in physique. I am training him now online for another show and he is getting in around 4.5k cals a day, bulk of course. 250g protein is all he needs. Everything else just burns in him. These guys exist, lucky, but they do exist lol. Granted he doesn't "think" of any of the stuff he is eating as junk. It's all just energy to his mind and body it seems.
