VARICOCELE...can it effect testosterone?

Ya I see that our levels are around the same for alot of the tests. And yes I do, I was told that it is a small one but still causes pain and discomfort, low libido, and I also feel drained all the time and the urologist thought it was too risky to do surgery :S I'm thinking if they won't do anything about the varicocele why not get the hormones straightened out. It must be hard to get a referral to a endocrinologist when the levels are low but still in the range of the accepted levels. Was it hard for you and when you did talk to one did they say everything's fine and dismiss your concern. I sure as hell don't wanna wait 5 months and have the endo talk to me for 5 mins and say deal with it...

well my test was also low within the "normal range" but actually my DHEA-S was BELOW the normal range, so i wont have any problem being referred to an endocrinologist, which im doing today actually.
If you go for a semen test to find out if the if your level is low, that will also grant you immediate access to varicocele embolization, or just complain of pain and discomfort

I'm really glad I found this forum and thanks to all those contributing to a great resource of data!!

I'm also a bit concerned about excess sexual excitation, masturbation or otherwise being a possible cause of Varicocele.

My Varicocele appeared 10 weeks ago now and from time to time (I'm 34) I used to practice 'holding back' techniques of not ejaculating so I could carry on having sex for longer and more often. I'd practiced it a few times for the month preceding the appearance of my varicocele (it's been diagnosed as a grade 2/3). I wonder if by literally holding back sperm release if I'm creating too much pressure around the testes! Hm, something I definitely won't be doing again anyway...

The weekend before I first went to the doctors complaining of a swollen left testicle, I'd taken some viagra purely for recreational purposes (my first time) and was surprised because I was still feeling it's effects 2 days later (from what I'd read viagra only lasts 4 hours). I guess I was feeling abnormally aroused and whilst having loads of time with my girlfriend we were having fantastic and long lasting sex....

It was only after the swelling didn't go down in my testicle 2 days later (I thought it was the viagra at first) that I went to the doctor who put me through a battery of STD tests and preemptive antibiotics after diagnosing it as Orchitis.

I'm interested in hearing other peoples report of potentially hitting a high T threshold and initiating a physiological/hormonal cascade resulting in a Varicocele as it definitely corresponds with my story.

I'm now in the UK awaiting an appointment with a urologist (I was in Jakarta when I got the Varicocele diagnosis) and hopefully an embolization procedure. The reason I decided to go with embolization was because of the complication list doesn't include any severing of the testicular artery (balls dropping off) like it does with surgery. It's also because you can be literally back at work the next day after the op.

I've definitely noticed a slight reduction in size and softening of my left testicle since it appeared and felt some noticeable effects from (my own perceived) low testosterone levels (although I've yet to be my levels analyzed). What I'd love to ask the members here is if you think I'll be alright taking Dermacrine whose main ingredient is DHEA amongst others like pregnelanone. I obviously don't want to endanger or worsen my Varicocele symptoms but really feel the benefits afforded by the cream would regulate not only my testosterone but also mood/stress levels which I've been suffering from lately. There doesn't seem to be any side effects if you only cycle the cream for 4-6 weeks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and good luck for everyone suffering Varicoceles.

there is no question my varicocele was formed as a result of a long painful masturbation session

like you did I was holding back alot and I actually ejaculated before I wanted to and I was so pissed I immediately masturbated again and this is where it formed

the next morning I woke up and I felt different as I usually wake up masturbating but I could not get any sexual images in my head where my penis would respond

I was going crazy as I did not know what was wrong with my, I soon discovered these veins on my testicle and my testicle was all swollen

Like you did I went to a doctor who said I had "Orchitis" and I should be fine

regardless since then, I have continued to masturbate which is retarded(especially since my body does not respond so I have to force the masturbating), and my veins have gotten much bigger and my testicles have shrunk significantly

But there is no question my varicocle was formed as a result of that masturbation session

Why don't you explain it to me then Dr.
20% of all men have a varicocele, so why don't 20% of all men have low testosterone, or fertility problems?
A varicocele are enlarged veins that surround the spermatic cord; so at worst a varicocele can affect fertility; however testosterone is created inside the testicles by Leydig cells. Most all men have two testicles anyways, and almost all varicoceles occur on the left side, but not both sides; and even the guys who only have one testicle, rarely complain of low testosterone symptoms. The only way a guy is gonna get low testosterone from a varicocele is if it's large enough to encompass both testicles completely, so that the temperature in the testicles are so high that it kills off a substantial amount of Leydig cells in both testicles. That would have to be a HUGE varicocele, and would causing extreme pain too say the least.

I can tell you with absolute certainty my Varicocele was a result of my low testosterone

I think there are 2 different Varicocle sufferers, those who were born with it or got it through unknown reasons, or those who can pinpoint to how they received it(injury, sexual problems), the latter is more likely to realize they have a lowered testosterone

But there is no question my varicocle and my low testosterone came on at the same time, there is no question about that

wow that doesn't make any sense at all... this procedure has a 93% success rate or something like that.. according to statistics and almost everybody on this board has had an unsuccessfully embolization procedure... makes no sense at all! Who the hell are you guys going to??????????

Im getting mine done on the 16th of this month, apparently this guy is very good. but thats according to the docs here in Canada. I really dont wanna have it done period if it's not going to work... **** it!
I came out from an attempted embolization procedure in Scotland on Friday. Much to my disapointment it was unsuccessful due to the fact I am one of the 1 in 4 people who are "anatomical variants not suitable for this procedure". This came from the interventional radiologist performing the procedure. I was watching the whole thing on a monitor while he tried to snake the catheter around my kidneys and into the vein. He tried several times, releasing dye at certain points to see if it would lead a path towards the varicocele. No luck, just uncomfortable poking around in my abdomen. Mine continues to be a grade 2/3....

I'm 35 and it's becoming more and more of a worry as my left nut seems to be shrinking. I managed to convince the urologist to request some blood samples for hormonal profiles and sperm analysis which will be my benchmark when I test again in 6 months. Only option is now surgery but the complication risk of the micro incision scares the hell out of me - balls dropping off and HRT for life. The laporoscopy he explained had a lower chance of success but lower complication risk...

So so disappointed the embolization didn't work. Typical I'm the 1 in 5 guy with Varicocele and the 1 in 4 of them who are "anatomical variants".

Like UKROB else said, I haven't heard one success story of an embolization yet, maybe those guys are just so stoked they don't bother coming on a forum like this any more....

How did your embolization go UKROB?

The doctor I saw originally told me of that risk with surgery before encouraging me to try embolization to avoid it. Then the urologist also informed me of that risk in the hospital after the failed embolization. If I remember correctly, he meant that if an artery was cut, the blood supply to the testicle would cease and effectively the testicle would cease to function.

go to israel for the gat-goren method. ask your health insurance company about the possibilities.

so ****ing scary, my varicocele is getting worse and worse as far as the pain goes, but I don't think I can live without my testicles, at this point I do not know what to do

did the doctor who wanted to perform the embolization on you tell you about the cut artery thing, one thing I have learned is you can not trust doctors, they are in the business to make money and care more about their profits then helping people, at least some of the doctors I have seen

I would do if I had a spare $9000 but I don't... I'm in the UK and the Gat-Goren method is only available (for that price) in Tel Aviv it seems. I'm getting a hormonal profile done tomorrow plus semen analysis and it will form my baseline to measure any further progressive testicular decline. I'll aim to do blood work/semen analysis every 6 months and will certainly post up the results for people to see an example of the rate of reduction in testosterone and sperm health from a newly formed varicocele.

It was the urologist and GP who explained that risk, not the interventional radiologist performing the embolization. I hear what you're saying regards Doctors trying to make cash and in some ways the NHS in the UK are probably more than ever trying to save on expensive operations if they don't deem them life threatening. They do operate if you're experiencing pain from a varicocele but you always get the attitude of "well, the body functions fine with one kidney, one testicle etc", but like someone else also expressed - I want to fire on all cylinders and don't want to compromise my body's potential - T-wise and also especially if it means not being able to father children. Shame the NHS doesn't offer the Gat-Goren method...

Find out if its conventional surgery or microsurgery, the latter is much safer because the surgeon will be doing the operation under a microscope and testicle loss is greatly minimized. Because my embolization failed, chances are I will be getting the microsurgery.

Hey guys ...

Found this thread like I guess MANY of you found it ... Google ! Read through much of it, and noticed that despite it being 44 pages , only a relatively small number (a dozen or so) had operations and had something to say, some saying they felt no benefit from surgery/symbolization, some saying there was benefit.

Some had normal libido/erections, some didn't, and the age range and length of time before getting treatment varied considerably.

I noticed that only in the last few months my libido almost disappeared, and had ED ... when I always had a normal sex drive and could masturbate and ejaculate without any problems.

Just before I seemed to lose both libido and erections, I felt much hornier than usual, like my Testosterone levels were spiking. I masturbated much more frequently and I could feel it. Just as a background, I have been working out for several years and I could tell I was hornier than ever, and also felt hungry much more often.

Now (for last 5 months), my sex drive is almost zero and seem to have ED, and noticed that my balls are smaller than they used to be, and hang lower than usual. They seemed softer as well, and it really surprised me how this could happen so fast.

I THINK I may have varicocele, but am not sure. I have an appointment with a Uro next Monday. I know for a fact this:

* Definite testicular shrinkage ( within last few months)
* Libido vanished at same time.
* ED appeared at same time.
* Don't feel hungry anymore , when I used to feel hungry practically every three hours and in the morning. Now, I never feel hungry ... can low T suppress appetite ?
*Fuzzy thinking and don't FEEL the same
*Just turned 28 years old.

Did not notice I had varicocele before . I'm not even sure if I have one now - I know that my balls hang loose.

Is this probably varicocele ?

You should be able to tell if you are in pain or you can feel bulbous veins which feel thicker than the ones in your right sack (most varicoceles are on the left side)

If it were palpable (you could feel them) then according to the urologist I saw, it's between a grade 2/3 (moderate to severe). It's apparently not likely you'd be feeling pain from a grade 1 varicocele and it seems many people don't get adversely affected by them.

If you can't feel the veins and are not in pain down there, of course get an ultrasound scan/hormonal screen/sperm analysis anyway, but you might want to look into other causes of your ED and other symptoms. FYI, I have a grade 2/3 varicocele and don't suffer any ED or libido loss (yet, fingers crossed!).

That's interesting about your libido spike followed by it's loss because I had a similar thing before the rapid onset of my varicocele. How much testicular atrophy would you say you've got? It would make sense all your other symptoms are affected by this and yep, varicocele could well be the culprit but you say your balls hang lower meaning both balls? And have both shrunk? It's apparently very rare but you can get bi-lateral varicocele which could atrophy both testicles I guess.

I know it seems like an obvious question - but have you suffered any psychological trauma or severe stress which might negatively affect testicular function? Anything else going on in your life which might have brought this on?

What I understand from the literature, is that many varicoceles are asymptomatic .... many people with even Grade 3 varicoceles don't show any pain symptoms.

Are you saying that you need to be in pain to have a varicocele, even Grade 3 ? From what I've seen, most are asymptomatic .... until libido and erections are affected in some and the resultant testicular atrophy.

By the way, billateral varicoceles are not at all rare. In fact, many people who think they have unilateral varicocele actually have bilateral, and the percentage of bilateral varicocele is much higher than believed.

(i tried posting a link to the study demonstrating thus but this board says I need 50 posts just to post a link ..unbelievable)

My left is smaller than my right .... but my balls were definitely larger and harder just a few months ago.

moogle can you feel any enlarged veins in the spermatic cord when standing? Do they disappear when you lie down? I have a grade 2 on the left side and it is clearly visable to the naked eye when I stand (even after my surgery). varicoceles are directly affected by gravity due to all the failed veins in the spermatic cord. It's possible you have a small grade 1 varicocele that isnt easily apparent.

visit your urologist and get it checked. get an ultrasound if possible to examine the spermatic cord and size of your nuts, get blood work to measure your test levels (and thyroid, adrenals, etc.), and a sperm check to measure fertility (if thats important to you).

Are you saying that you need to be in pain to have a varicocele, even Grade 3 ?

No, just from what I've read it's one of the most common symptoms and an obvious indicator of varicocele.

I haven't seen literature stating that bi-lateral varicocele is much more common than thought, would like to read it though because that complicates things even more.

You'll know soon enough after your scan, good luck!

i am sorry for this but , the gat-goren method does seem the best and ideal approach but

THE FKIN M***ER F**KERS HAVE RAISED THE PRICE TO 12.250$ per surgery, AND INITIALLY IT WAS 9000NIS ( THATS ABOUT 2300$) .AND THE GAY FKING DOCTORS SAY THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE PRICE BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO COVERS THE COSTS FKIN SCAMMIN GREEDY MFKERS.

i am sorry for this outburst, i was just glad to have found this clinic and the 2300$ price-tag for the surgery only to find out today that "THE GOOD DOCTOR CHANGED THE PRICE" , i hope he eats sh*t and dies.

sorry if this sounds a bit strange, but were all mature here...when you guys speak of the symptoms and ball shrinkage, how much shrinkage are we speaking of? What if you "think" one of ur balls may have shrunk but your not too sure. What is considered too small of a nut to take into consideration that you may have something going on?

The best way to describe the atrophy that I'm experiencing is to say that the affected side (left) has lost considerable volume. Before where it was full and round, now it looks long and pointy and hollow. Length is probably the same. Not sure lol

So does anyone else have really saggy nuts? :-/

Sure, I do. Had it since my I discovered the varicocele in my teens and have been thinking about doing something about it ever since. I am 23 now. Went to the doc today and asked about the possibility of surgery but he said he thought my case was too small to do surgery on at the moment. I don't have any other issues with my varicocele than the cosmetic one, so I guess the only thing to do now is not too worry about it too much. Of course lying and saying you have pain is another strategy, but that feels a bit dangerous since I don't want to risk anything getting worse.

IMO, the only reason to have surgery is to improve low testosterone levels. However, I haven't seen one reply from anyone who had the surgery that says they had a significant improvement in test levels.

I had a conventional varicocele repair 6 days ago. The pain has been very manageable and I was back to my desk job today. Two veins were tied off...I haven't seen much of a change in their size as of yet (grade III+).

I haven't felt a big difference yet but it wasn't much of an issue before surgery.

After 10 days the veins are still very large, I really hope the swelled veins start going down. Patience I guess.

I had microsurgery procedure on June 4th and the veins are still there. I am thinking about calling the surgeon's office at the hospital to get more info. I should have asked this at the post operation appt but it didn't cross my mind.

I think this depends on what grade varicocele you have/had. If its a II or III and visible to the eye then the surgery should "deflate" most of these major veins but they will still be present.

Hmm... maybe. You don't have any issues with the way it looks then? Never checked my testosterone levels, always had it easy gaining muscle, but on the other hand I have almost no beard and I am approaching the age of 24. Always good to get it checked I guess.

No. The appearance doesn't bother me in the least and I haven't met a women in my 52 years on this planet who spends a lot of time staring at that part of my anatomy either. Looks would be the absolute last reason I would risk surgery in that area.

I would agree that before you consider anything, you get your test levels checked. I have been following this thread since the beginning. I haven't really seen a single post where someone had surgery and saw a major difference in before and after performance. As a matter of fact, it seems that after most have had the surgery, you never see them post here again except to report that they had the surgery. You would think that if someone saw a major difference, they would be bragging to every post that appeared here.

On the other hand, if you build muscle rather easily and you have no problem getting erections, who cares about growing facial hair?
I wish there was a way I could have mine permanently removed so I didn't have to shave every day.

Is anyone having testicle pain a few months after surgery? I was told it could be up to a month because the blood flow was being routed to other smaller veins but mine still hurts a lot more than it did pre-surgery and its been 2 months now.

Fresh off the table from microsurgery Friday afternoon. Per the doctor the procedure went as planned and no complications. My varicocele was a 2.5 left side and has been causing pain for the last 3 years. About 6 months ago was diagnosed with low T (200's). Having lost my zest for living and living in a constant state of "brain fog" and other symptoms that were driving me nuts trying to figure out what was wrong with me, I had the testosterone pellets inserted. I felt better for a few months but know I was not doing the program correctly (after reading these forums). I decided to have the Varicocele repaired simply to ease the pain it was causing me. If it has a positive effect on my T levels that would be great. At this point I feel like beckerj did in his 2008 posts in this thread: worthless sums it up. I am fighting to learn and understand what it seems most of the docs don't seem to. I have had extensive blood work done prior to the surgery and I am working with Matrix on interpreting them.

Right now 48 hours post op and I feel fine, never had to take any pain pills after the surgery and will be back at work tomorrow am on a limited basis. If any of your trepidations are pain related, fear not it was no big deal.

Will post further as I recover. Overall I am glad I go this done as it has been hurting me for quite awhile. Now to figure out the rest :)

Hi everyone, I’m not new to the forum because I’ve spend a lot of time reading here for the last months. But I wanted to add up to this forum because it has been very useful for me to recognize that my problems came from the grade 3 varicocele on the left side. And hope that my findings will prove that varicocele is a serious condition.

I just wanted to bring up my whole story with everything what has happened to me since 1,5 years ago. I’m now 24 and got the embolization done 2 weeks ago.

Ever since I know I had this varicocele on my left side, but I always thought it was just the spermatic cord and there was some semen collected what didn’t come out. I thought it was no real problem and thought when I would just masturbate I could get it out. Sometimes it seemed to be just fine so no reason for worries. (probably varicocele grade I) I had a sweet hot girlfriend for 1 year and sex life was great! No problems and I could last long enough to satisfy her and had morning woods and libido was pretty high. It is now April 2009, I moved to another place and got a heavy physical job. Which I liked because I like physical jobs and working out. Unloading 2 sea containers almost every day. I was wearing tight underwear because I sweat easily and because it’s a tough job on your system I had to make it as comfortable as possible. Though I wasn’t aware of the disaster what was about to unfold. 3 months into the job I noted that my **** didn’t pop up as easily as it usually did and when I was about to make love to my girlfriend. But I thought it was just because having sex was more like a habit than a desire. I remember telling one of my mates that I lacked interest in sex and the only reason why I did it was routine, there was no real desire anymore.

A few months later I went to holidays with my girlfriend and in the 2 weeks we only had sex like 3 times and it was really not what it should be, erectile dysfunction was apparent and I thought it came from disinterest in her though she is really hot. But my feelings for her just vaporized. We were about to break up during the holidays!

After the holidays I didn’t enjoy being with her as I did before, and I went to see my local friends to go out for smoking weed what she didn’t like and I address this to my rising feeling of disconnection to her. Another few months passed and there was the break up because there just was no chemistry anymore. But the break up felt light on me, I felt free to do what I wanted to do, working out at home doing pushups and pull-ups and smoking some weed again that made me feel happy and relaxed.

It’s now new years eve and my brother came back from Australia, I live in the Netherlands. And because I had not seen him for a half year I started smoking weed with him for 2 months. I noticed my stamina for working out going down really fast. Playing street football with my friends got me tired quickly and sweating like never before even in winter time when it was freezing. My blood pressure was measured at 158/95. So I decided to quit smoking weed and work on my blood pressure. Not knowing that I had this severe varicocele grade III in the mean time. Because it’s now a year since I started my physical job.

So I made big diet changes, started running again and cycling to work using intervals to strengthen my vascular system. Then when a friend of mine asked me to go out to a club, I went. And because I felt that it was time for a new girl in my life I came across a very sweet looking girl that night. I got in touch and we had our first date 1 week after the party.
She wanted to make love with me that night. But I was unable to get my **** up without manual stimulation as I already knew. A had been drinking some wine with her that evening what also made it impossible to get it up that night, but I satisfied her the oral way. That morning when we woke up we had sex because I was totally relaxed and my **** worked at some point. But the erection strength was bad and I could only last a few minutes. Then she told me that my **** was fading very easily after stimulation and that that was not OK! So I told her, well I need manual stimulation because I don’t get that excited anymore… (I thought having spontaneous erections was only possible until age 22) And I told her that I have not been horny since the past 5 months since the break up with my girlfriend. This event stressed me out to some point and I told her the easily fading might have due to my high blood pressure.

Went to search the internet for high blood pressure and erectile dysfunction and bang! That must have been the cause. And I kept working lowering my blood pressure. Also I started taking supplements to strengthen my system and improve my erectile strength. I’ve been taking L-arginine AKG, L-Citrulline, ginkgo biloba, omega-3 and multivitamins and lots of peanuts for the beneficial effect on HDL and dark chocolate. And at some point it seemed that my **** hardened up pretty good when jacking off. I was happy that my findings paid off!

Still unaware that I was a sinking ship! Ever since that day that I went to see my new girlfriend I had the flu on and off. Every time someone had flu at work he passed it on to me. And I got rid of it in 3 weeks, then it came back after a week. And ever-since my nose was ****ed up. It seemed that I was unable to heal from it. But I continued work and told the people at work that there were poison gasses in the containers that got me sick over and over. They told me that was impossible because they are checked in the harbor. The weeks passed and I noticed pain in the lower abdomen at the appendix location. But I was not going to give up work or my girlfriend.
2 months since I came to know my new girlfriend and sex was only there a few times for a couple minutes. At work while standing I noted a dull pulsating pain in my sack. I went to the bathroom to check it out and noticed this extreme varicocele grade III. That same day I went search the internet for what that is called and went to see my doctor and said that I have varicoceles. She said that was obvious and that I should be treated for this.

All things I did like working out and going to parties destroyed my immune system and the morning after I couldn’t breathe through my nose and the pain in my lower abdomen got worse. I didn’t drink much while partying because I was aware of my problem. I got all the symptoms of low-testosterone. And started to get depressed because I couldn’t enjoy myself anymore and was very uncertain if I would ever feel the same again. ED was getting more severe and I lost all interest in woman. I just could not get horny at all.

Now 4 months into the relationship and I got the embolization done. The day I was treated I was in the hospital and had a spontaneous erection! I was like, how the hell could this be cured this easily. But it was only there because the doctor had probably given me some relaxation meds. Then 1 week after the embolization I got really freaked out because the varicoceles seemed to be as large as they were before the embolization and I thought it had failed. But I was not in pain from it anymore so I held myself that it has been a success since. Now I am exactly 2 weeks and 1 day since the operation and I have been working out, had a few sexual dreams and feel my energy coming back. But I can hardly control my emotions and get paranoid easily which got me in trouble with my current relationship. I asked to give me some time to recover on myself and get to know my former self again and know how to deal with all the feelings that come with it. During this episode in my life I almost forgot who I used to be and what a happy life I lived before. So I would say, testosterone is affected along with a lot of other hormones when someone suffers from varicoceles grade III. I found connections from hormones on the high blood pressure, weak immune system, and libido. And of course sweating really easily who some of the people around here seem to have the same issue. Same for body hair, facial hair coming in very slow and less hair on my arms than my sisters!

So I told her, well I need manual stimulation because I don’t get that exited anymore… (I thought having spontaneous erections was only possible until age 22) And I told her that I have not been horny since the past 5 months since the break up with my girlfriend. This event stressed me out to some point and I told her the easiliy fading might have due to my high blood pressure.

All thing I did like working out and going to parties destroyed my immune system and the morning after I couldn’t breathe through my nose and the pain in my lower abdomen got worse.

I was like, how the hell could this be cured this easily. But it was only there because the doctor had probably given me some relaxation meds. Why didn't you have the microsurgical procedure?

because they said they had 2 options, surgery and embolization and the doctor recommended embolization because it was easier and with less complications.
they did not put any coils, they put glue only.

your doctor is a fool, the best option is the microsurgical procedure. (number one option is the gat goren method, but they only practise that in Ramat Gan Israel.)

so what you are saying is that, now my spermatic vein is blocked my left testicle will not function? and when they would have done microsurgical my artery would have been preserved and my left testicle would function properly again?

Hello All .... It has been way too long since I have posted here, I know. But Reading through some of yall's posts have given me the compulsion to chime in again and let you all know that I am doing "GREAT" .... I am not 100% but as you read on I think you may understand more as to why.
If you have read through the posts here you know my story so I won't go into detail, just search here for my posts and read what all I went through.
First of all I will again say that the Micro-Surgery by a qualified surgeon is the best option, in my opinion. I had it done. I had 20 some odd veins ligated on my left side and 7 or so on my right.
In my opnion the Embolization method does not correct the pain issues as quickly. Just my opnion.
I have now been on Androgel (4-6 Pumps) A day for almost 2 years ....
My sexual desire is back, dreams are vivid as they always were, brain fog is no more, energy and stamina are up, I guess you could say that all in all I am as close to the person as I was before this thing hit me like a freight train I can be considering my age (38) and that I am on HRT.
I still have some symptoms that I think I will have for the rest of my life, unless I get the balls and stop the Androgel and see if my body will begin to produce T the way it used to but lets be honest (I am scared of what I was and do not want to risk going back there again) I won't stop the Androgel because I am afraid.
I still stammer on my words a bit, but no where near like I did before the HRT.
I still have the shakes\trembling hands\body.
I still have anxiety but no where like it was.
Ed is not a huge issue like it was but because of what I wernt through with it not working like it was supposed to for so long it still rings in my head at the slightest hint of malfunction. This is my own deal I know but it is something we all need to know.
I take a 1/4 of a levitra or cialis and it works just fine.
I think some of the remaining symptoms are due to the HRT....The T is not my own naturally occuring T.
Just a theory but a viable one I think ....
All in all though if I am at least 98% of who I was before this thing called varicocele came along I am able to accept that and move on.
I truly hope all of you read this and see that there really is a light at the end of the tunnel with this horrible debilating illness.
I am proof you can regain who you are and what you were significantly.

Beckerj I apologize for my laziness but this thread is massive and have no idea how to track your old posts without skimming pages. When did you get varicocele and what grade was it? Was there an event/injury that brought it on. It seems strange that a man in his mid to late 30's would just randomly get this. I thought they usually formed in the puberty-teen years. I had left sided grade 2 since I was 14 (now 23) and didnt notice libido problems until a year or so ago. My doctor I am working with now seems to beleive there are other factors involved other than my varicocele which we are looking into via labs. I really want to explore every avenue before trt/hrt because I'd like to have kids someday.

No. The appearance doesn't bother me in the least and I haven't met a women in my 52 years on this planet who spends a lot of time staring at that part of my anatomy either. Looks would be the absolute last reason I would risk surgery in that area.

You are probably right. It's just that mine, especially the left one, hang so low a lot of the time. And I am also really worried that its just going to get worse as I get older, and that my balls are going to hang half way down my knees when I am 40. Since the scrotum hangs lower as you get older anyway as far as I have understood, maybe this will be aggravated by the varicocele and the extra weight on the testicles. How long have you had varicocele? Since you are 50, have you noticed any significant difference in sagginess?

I haven't really seen a single post where someone had surgery and saw a major difference in before and after performance. As a matter of fact, it seems that after most have had the surgery, you never see them post here again except to report that they had the surgery. You would think that if someone saw a major difference, they would be bragging to every post that appeared here.

It's also possible that the surgery went well, and that they just never came back here to share the good news for various reasons. People live busy lives and once they have they're problems solved they sometimes might forget to let others in on it. If the surgery didn't work, shouldn't at least some of them be back here complaining about it?

Anyway, I will get try to get at least a fertility test this month, and I will see about the T-level thing.

No, But I've been on TRT for over 12 years now. When my testicles diminished slightly from the exogenouus testosterone, my varicocele disappeared after having it for 27 years.

1 month since varicocele embolization with glue. seems that when i stand and feel the veins nothing has changed. my sack hangs all day how it used to be before the embolization. when i lay down the blood flows back into my abdomen, seems that the blood has not clot yet AFTER A MONTH!! :/ well i still hope that the embolization was partially succesful because i don't have pain anymore in that place. erection strength is still weak and libido is none existing. morning wood is there but very weak. also have to note that sensitivity in my **** is low and does not get me aroused much when i touch it.
in 2 weeks i got a check up with the urologist

embolization is the worst option bro,the worst!

gonna bump this thread. i have a bad varicocele and i'm gonna try to get it fixed. considering the gat goren method and i'm in contact with dr. gat.

if that does not work out, then i'll go to dr. goldstein or dr. schlegel in new york city and have microsurgery.

Is anyone having testicle pain a few months after surgery? I was told it could be up to a month because the blood flow was being routed to other smaller veins but mine still hurts a lot more than it did pre-surgery and its been 2 months now.

I'm 2 months out of varicocele repair and I am hurting more now that I was before. Now it's actually my testicle that hurts whereas before it was more in my groin area. As of now I wish I hadn't had the surgery. My sack and balls are all "sucked back" not hanging low and loose as they were before and its not comfortable.

sorry to hear it's not going good. what kind of surgery did you have and where did you have it?

i'm having microsurgery in indiana on november 4.

this thing is a nightmare

I waited to long to get it repaired, now the varicocele is huge, the pain is ridiculous, and the worst part is my testicles are shrinking to nothing

anyone have any good or bad stories about repair

anyone recommend the gat goren over the micro surgery

anyone hear about testicle size increasing after repair

anyone have a varicocele that did not go away when you were lying down

****ing nightmare this is, I masturbated like an idiot and it got worse, cant believe this ****

haha k1212, i have a lot of the same problems as you. i know how much it sucks, but you're not alone man. i had a big varicocele since i was 13. i did not bother me much until i was 27 or 28. it was big and hot and clumsy, but i really didn't have many symptoms. my left testicle was smaller than my right, but not by a huge amount. then sometime in 2006 everything started to get a lot worse. slowly and steadily, like how people lose their vision over time, but it happens slow and is not very painful, so the damage keeps progressing but they don't do anything about it.

anyway i can't put the surgery off anymore. by 2010 my left testicle was SO small it was alarming. my right testicle is smaller too. i had an ultrasound and it turns out i have a varicocele on both sides. so i'm having bilateral microsurgery.

i feel the same way as you. it's a nightmare. it has ruined my life. i don't even feel like a man anymore, or a person. i'm just a zombie with testicles shrinking away to nothing. LOL. i try to maintain a positive attitude but it's very hard to not be sad and at night, sometimes i even cry.

i'm also in contact with dr yigal gat. i've been talking to him for about 2 weeks. sending him my tests. semen analysis, hormone profile, ultrasound. he only does the gat-goren procedure in israel, so i probably won't be getting that.

keep talking k1212. some of us are out there listening.
