Dermacrine Safe or Women?

The reason I ask is that my wife may be interested in using it--not for bodybilding but for general libido, energy, mood enhancement. She's post menapausal and currently on testosterone cream--the problem is the doctor has her on .25 mg./day and it's far too low a dose to do anything (and the doctor won't increase the dosage).

Do you think Dermacrine is appropriate?

thanks,

Before I answer I have to ask.....why do they have her on testosterone cream for libido/energy? Many of the symptoms she experiences are directly related to the decline in endogenous estrogen/progesterone.

Is she receiving some type of menopausal hormone therapy such as Premarin or Provera in conjunction?

No adjunctive hormone therapy. The doctor will not put her on estrogen of any kind because of the heart disease in her family and the doctor's contention that testosterone is much more important in regulating libido. Note that I don't have much faith in this doctor--she seems to think that the TNE (test no ester) cream will "build up" in her system to the point where it becomes effective.

Well, here's the thing: Her doctor has valid reasons to advise against estrogen replacement therapy if there are significant risk factors of heart disease already in place (especially if it's family/genetic in origin). I still think she could be put on progesterone replacement without any significant risk, and plenty of benefits. The progesterone is important to her libido, bone formation, and even enhanced neuro-cognition. Does she have any risk factors for cancer, or had a total/partial hysterectomy?

A very small dose of test can help alleviate some of her side effects, but there are certainly risks as well taking it. My biggest concern is the virilizing effects of the androgen intervention that can become more prominent over time. Even small doses can have profound effects in some women in that regard.

There are certainly risks and benefits to the therapy itself. It's definitely best to discuss all potential options with her physician to make a well informed decision in her course of treatment.

I really can't recommend Dermacrine for her; not only because of her underlying risks of heart disease, but I personally don't recommend androgen use by women in general unless medically indicated, and under the supervision of a treating physician. My advice is to inquire about other treatment options, or get a second opinion on the matter.

No hysterectomy, no cancer risk. The doctor--gynocologist--didn't even test her hormone levels just prescribed the Test cream based on an office visit. The fact that she believes that Test no ester will build up in her system makes me question her judgement. If a "normal" healthy woman produces ~.5 mg./day of Test and the cream my provide 30-50% absorption of .25 mg./day, I don't see how that is going to do much if her levels are low. We've heard of other women using Test cream with great success for libido/energy/mood enhancement but at higher dosages.

Based on that alone I suggest a second opinion. Any doctor that's going to prescribe something without a comprehensive work-up beforehand would certainly make me question his/her practice methods. I would see if she'll give you a referral to an endocrinologist for a further work-up and go from there.
