timing of protein shake

my workouts usually last about 1.5 hours and lately i have been drinking my protein shake which is mostly whey isolate iwth a little casein and start eating my simple carbs (kiddie cereal, nerds, smarties, sweetarts, etc) about an hour in. What do u guys think of this approach? benefits? drawbacks? does it really matter? Thanks

30 minutes won't really matter too much in the long run
 
I'd look into an EAA supplement like Purple Wraath. The body takes them in quicker and I've seen absolutely amazing results in recovery when downing loads of EAAs pre/intra/post workout. Since your workout is so long then you could down your whey shake immediately afterwards.
