Hello, so I already have my BS in Exercise Science, but I am looking for a few more certifications to help boost my overall legitmacy in the field. I am looking for sports nutrition cert, possibly a health management cert, and maybe strength and cond, or personal training/fitness instructor. There are a lot of certifications i came across, some that only make you take a bogus quiz and then pay money and get certified right there. I am not thinking of that because any joe off the street can get one of those certs...

what i would like to know is if anybody has any recommendations on a legit cert for nutrition especially???

The only two certifications that will take you anywhere would be from a registered dietician program or a dietetic technician program. The latter is basically an assistant to the RD. Both are recognized by the AMA as allied health professions.

State Boards will usually award you a Certificate of Nutrition if you can supply transcripts showing that you have the recommended amount of course work during your studies. You just have to check out your local state legislation to find out how you apply, whom you need to contact and what you need to show. Afterwords you will be board and state certified as a Nutritionist.

what is your intended career? IMO the ones you listed are crap as far as legitamacy are concerned. You want to get the highest "cert" you can from something like ACSM or something similar. Maybe look into CSCS if you qualify.

I am an RD. Undergrad in Nutr. Sci. then 1.5yr internship in clinical (hospital), foodservice, and community nutrition. That being said, I don't currently work in dietetics b/c 1) the general population makes me facepalm on a daily basis, and 2) there is no money in the field being an entry level RD.

In PA, I believe you can be a liscensed dietitian/nutritionist without "formal training" but you may need to be an RD first. I dunno, never bothered to look into it. If you are hoping to get into the upper levels of sports nutrition, you really are gonna need at least a Master's degree to get your foot in the door.
