Ally's 6 week run of Prime (Sponsored)

This is a 6 week sponsored cycle of Prime being run by my wife. Her main reason for wanting to run Prime is to gain back the strength she used to have before having our second child. She hasn’t been able to lift the same weights as she did before having our daughter 2 years ago, and is getting frustrated. Although she has worked her a$$ off to successfully lose the baby weight, her strength hasn’t returned to pre baby levels.

Quick history: 38yo (39 in August), ht-5’2”, Wt runs 105-107. She has been training for almost 10 years with a couple of very short breaks after each of our 2 kids to recover from c-section surgery. She usually trains 5-6 days a week, 3 lifting and 2-3 cardio. Her lifting is full body using a mix of the big compound lifts with some isolation lifts as well. Cardio is done on an elliptical machine, and she does a mix of SS and HIIT. Her diet is one thing that needs a little work. Mostly, she needs to increase her protein intake, and make sure she gets enough calories each day. She will be using Prime at 6/day. Other supplements will be Alpha-Burn, geranium, and caffeine. Pre-workout she will use Jack3d/DominATP, and will sip on X-tend/WMS intra and post workout. I may try and get her to use p-slin with the WMS, but I’m not sure she could take in enough WMS to cover her with p-slin. She has used Powerful in the past, but decided to hold off on adding that for now basically because she hates taking pills, and that would add a bunch more. I’m still trying to convince her to add it in, but only pre-workout for now. We aren’t able to train together right now due to having a 2 year old that doesn’t love sitting in an old highchair in the basement while we lift. I will be posting what she tells me as far as how the workout felt in general as well as her progress. She records her reps as she goes so I can adjust her weights and what not.

I’ll be posting the usual stats as she goes along.

She started taking Prime on Sunday. She took all doses. She reported feeling nothing out of the ordinary, but didn’t expect to either.

Day 1:

Training- (weights) - She took her Prime 30min pre workout with Jack3d/DomintATP. She had a “good workout” for the first time lifting after a 12-day, planned layoff. She usually starts at slightly lower weights each lifting cycle, so the first week or so isn’t as intense as the rest of the cycle. She got all planned reps on most lifts.

Diet- Was on par (pretty much) Protein still needs to increase a bit. I may have her start using Fit-day again to make sure she’s getting all her calories in.

Prime- She took all planned doses, nothing to report yet.

Day 2:

Training: This was a planned cardio day, but unfortunately life got in the way and it didn’t happen.

Diet: On par, good protein intake. Over all calories were a bit low.

Prime: All doses taken. She has nothing subjective to report yet. She is the type that doesn’t really feel too many supplements, so I expect her to miss the subtle changes. I did notice something personally. We were just sitting talking and I noticed her triceps were really looking a bit more defined and just a little bigger. It’s most likely that glycogen replenishment after her first workout coming off a layoff would do this. It was something I did notice though.

Day 3:

Training: (weights) - Today was dead lift day, she uses the trap-bar for these. She said the workout felt good, and she got her reps on everything. She did mention that her dead lifts felt pretty easy, and she usually hates doing them.

Diet: She ate well today. Protein was a little low, but calories were good.

Prime: Nothing subjective to report. I think she’s been a little bit quick to snap lately, but, the painters are expected any day now, so that could be it too. I’m thinking PMS+Prime is a dangerous combination…lol.

hahahah OMG....

6/25 - 6/27

Day 4:

Training: (Cardio)- Cardio went well today, steady state only and it was cut short to 20 minutes today due to an appt tonight.

Diet: Calories and protein were on the low side today. She did have a protein shake before bed though, so that helped her totals.

Prime: I again noticed some increased “aggression”, more like just quick to snap, but nothing terrible. She isn’t feeling too much from it yet; then again it’s only been 5 days.

Day 5:

Training: Off day

Diet: Diet was pretty much on target today. Calories and protein were much better than yesterday.

Prime: Nothing subjective to report.

Day 6:

Training: (weights)- She had a good workout this morning. She seemed strong on her first and second sets of every thing. The third set on some lifts she lost a rep or 2. I suspect that she isn’t resting enough between sets to hit 8 on all 3 sets. She did say that she felt stronger than she has in a while this morning, and she was down there a little longer than usual. I know she’s worked harder if her workout is longer.

Diet: On target for calories and protein today.

Prime: She missed her last dose today. I may have her take 3 with her first 2 doses tomorrow to make that up. I’m not sure weather to attribute the perceived strength to Prime or some other factor/s. She hasn’t reported really feeling anything beyond what she did during her workout this morning.

I recently swapped her Geranium out for Ephedrine, so now she’s using EC and Alpha Y 3x/day.

6/28-7/1

Day 7:

Training- off day

Diet: Went to a family cookout and ate pretty freely. Definitely made her calorie and protein goal

Prime: Took all her doses, and made up for the missed dose. She isn’t reporting feeling much outside of the feeling stronger overall. I think she’s looking more full throughout her shoulders and upper back as well as her arms.

Day 8:

Training: (weights) Her workout was rushed today. She works from home on Mondays, and was pretty busy. She only did 2 sets per exercise, but was strong on just about everything.

Diet: Slightly below maintenance calories, but protein intake was good.

Prime: Still feeling stronger, which is her goal, so that is encouraging. All day fullness is still apparent to me.

Day 9:

Training: (cardio)- She had a good cardio session today. She felt good and although taxing, she finished feeling good and not wiped out.

Diet: She ate well, was a little low on calories again (I suspect the EC/A-Y is killing her appetite, may have her cut the E in half).

Prime: She took all doses today. Still feeling good. No sides to report at all, which I like.

Day 10:

Training: (weights) Today I was able to go downstairs with her while she lifted. DAMN I forgot how hard she actually trains. I’m not able to go down usually, so I never get to see her workout. She went up in weight, reps or both on all the big lifts. Her bench-presses and rows were especially good. She felt good and very strong throughout the workout.

Diet: She ate well today, calories were close to maintenance, and protein intake was good.

Prime: She took all her doses today. She feels very strong while training. I have to believe that the Prime is starting to show its effects. She is looking fuller than before as well. Looking forward to what's next

Her weight has been fairly steady so far.

Day 11:

Training (cardio): She had a good and productive cardio session today. She worked had and felt good according to her.

Diet: She ate enough calories for the day, but protein was just a bit lower than I would like it to be.

Prime: I reported her weight being steady last post. Seems I was off on that a bit. Her weight has gone up around 4 lbs. This is freaking her out. Usually, she doesn’t make such big jumps (or drops) in weight. She had been holding some water before her period, but that usually dissipates pretty quickly. This time, the weight hasn’t really gone down, and her boobs are definitely bigger, as if she was still holding water in them. This is great news for me of course, but she’s a little concerned that the Prime is making her hold water. Now, the pair of jeans that are her “smallest” still fit with no problem, and I haven’t noticed her looking fatter at all. She still looks like she’s gained some size all around, and I believe this to be some muscle actually. I’m wondering if any of the other women who are taking prime have noticed any increased water retention. In my opinion, she may have gained a small amount of fat, be holding some water, and added some muscle as well. She is eating more than usual, and her protein intake has been higher than it has been. So a small jump in weight isn’t completely unexpected, but she is now up about 6-7lbs since taking her first dose of Prime. That to me is a little more than a small jump. Any insight into this would be great.

PRIME should cause no water/sodium retention. The weight gain see from PRIME is almost exclusively LBM (lean body mass) in the form of lean muscle tissue.

Now, the pair of jeans that are her “smallest” still fit with no problem, and I haven’t noticed her looking fatter at all.
This is probably the key. It is all about body composition; it is important to use indicators like these two to gauge progress rather than the conventional method of a scale.

She still looks like she’s gained some size all around, and I believe this to be some muscle actually.
Awesome!

I’m wondering if any of the other women who are taking prime have noticed any increased water retention.
I will call in our resident female 'PRIMExperts' to confirm. However, most users note a significant leaning or recomposition effect when using PRIME - regardless of gender.

In my opinion, she may have gained a small amount of fat, be holding some water, and added some muscle as well. She is eating more than usual, and her protein intake has been higher than it has been.
Have you considered adding Anabolic-Pump? Anabolic-Pump would help counteract the increased food intake and assure that the nutrients and substrates are driven into your muscle cells, leaving your fat cells to basically starve...

So a small jump in weight isn’t completely unexpected, but she is now up about 6-7lbs since taking her first dose of Prime. That to me is a little more than a small jump. Any insight into this would be great.

If her body composition is still desirable, as you alluded to... all is good. If you feel as if the increase in appetite is illiciting fat-gain, I would consider adding Anabolic-Pump to your arsenal.

The thing is, her appetite hasn't really increased at all. I think the E/C and Alpha Y is causing that. She feels like it's water weight and bloat. In my opinion, a good portion of it is water. She has a history of holding water. During her pregnancy with our daughter, she was gaining 2lbs a week, while working out the whole time. So she is pretty sure the weight is mostly water. I am having her hold off on the Prime for today to see if her weight drops off at all tomorrow morning. I really didn't want to do it, but she's kind of freaking out since it's beach season and she's not happy with how she looks at all. I'm not sure how long Prime stays in a persons system, and I don't want her off too long, as her strength is increasing. I have AP here, so I may see if adding it in before her carb meals.

I'm going to have her take her preworkout dose today, and add in a diuretic like Showtime I think.

Thanks for the help with this.

Is Ally close to her period?? That might have something to do with her feeling this way. I personally don't have a problem getting my protein up, I have to make sure I don't get it too high LOL. . . I'm a bit rare I suppose. I highly recommend stacking AP. I've been on AP for a year and started my 2nd bottle of Prime this week. I took one bottle a few months ago and then went off and back on it again. I wouldn't have stopped after the first bottle, it just happened that way. I noticed after the first dose major aggression in the gym and in my strength. The first time I took Prime was on a Chest and Back workout. I had a PR on my flat db presses. How is her sleep? My first 2 weeks were unbelievable. The best sleep I can remember in a long time.

I also think getting in your water will help. I'm at 2 gallons a day and I feel tighter when I do this. hmmm, I think she needs to hang tight. Try to find out about her period timing, if it's close to her time of the month. . . that could explain why she is feeling the way she is. This time of year makes us women freak :) Good luck. Keep us updated!

Thank you so much for the response. She actually just got over her period 4 days ago. We initially thought the added weight was from that. Problem is that the bloat hasn't subsided at all. This is strange for her as any water she gains before her period dissipates right after it starts. I am definitely going to have her increase water intake

Se is sleeping very well. She is having great strength gains right now too, so since this was her goal, she's kind of torn as to what to do. I think I'm going to have her sit tight and drink more water as well as starting AP. I'll order her Showtime or something similar, by the time it gets here, I'll know if my initial changes are working, and if she will even need it.

Again, thanks for your help.

My weight stayed just about the same but I noticed a major change in how I looked. even though my weight didnt change all that much I lost inches and looked leaner, tighter and more muscle hardness. I never experinced any water weight issues except when I was about to get my period or if I didnt drink enough water. I have atleast 1.5-2 gallons a day and feel so much leaner and tighter when my water intake is high. I also agree with steph about maybe starting up the AP. I have been using the AP for about a year now and I love it. In my offseason I was able to eat way more carbs than I usually would wihout the extra fat gain which fuled my workouts better and in turn help me put on some decent muscle! So I would also have to agree about increasing water intake as well as maybe starting on the AP.

One last thing, have her try not to worry about the number on the scale too much. Try to go by the mirror, measurments, and how your clothes are fitting. I know being female myself that this is eaiser said than done but like you said her smallest pants are still fitting so I wouldt be too worried about the gain being fat gain. she is probably just adding some muscle mass and recomping her body . Good luck and keep us posted!

I think she needs to bump up her water intake drastically. She doesn't drink a gallon of anything in a day. She doesn't think she could even drink one gallon nevermind 2 lol. I will get her to start drinking a lot more in the next few days. I also think adding AP will help a ton. I've taken it pretty much non stop since it was released, and I'm leaner than ever eating 300-350g of carbs a day.

Thanks for your response, I'll keep you guys update as to how it goes.

I never thought I could get in 1 gallon of water. Now here I am getting 2 and I feel I could do more. . . I find mixing Core ABC or something like the mix will help get the water in. Core ABC white wild cherry and lemonade are my favorite. I throw 5 to 6 scoops in a gallon and I'm good to go :D The other gallon is just water. I find it's easier when the water is not sooo cold too.

Good luck!

She's gonna have to drink something with it, she rarely drinks plain water. Thanks for the suggestion.

this is EXACTLY what I do too!! I gallon plain water and 1 gallon ABC(white cherry is AWSOME!!). makes is go down easier and faster!I also dont refridgerate my gallon of water. I drink it room temperature for some reason it is easier to drink than when its cold.

I too am using Prime, and I have to say that I haven't had any problems with water retention or bloating at all. My weight has stayed pretty much the same so far, but I have definately lost fat and gained some muscle.

I agree with what the others have said about water intake and starting AP. I am using AP, and it gives me so much more confidence to eat carbs, and not worry about gaining fat. I do think though, that when you are taking Prime, as long as your diet is clean, and you are eating a sensible number of calories it is very hard to gain fat weight.

Is she having many protein shakes? I find that they can make me hold water and bloat sometimes if they have calcium caseinate in. An increase in training intensity can sometimes make you hold more water as well due to greater levels of cortisol in your system.

Hope this helps!

Pip

Fist off thanks for responding. It's weird because I'm pretty sure she is still undereating on most days. That's one reason I don't think it's fat gain. Interesting that you mentioned the Calcium Caeseinate. She has bee using ON's Nitrocore 24, and has bumped up how many she's having a day. It does have the CC in it too. Maybe I'll have her use a different protein and see if that helps. She's also training pretty hard right now, so that could be contributing. I hope it's as simple as switching up protein.

Thanks again.

I would definately look into the protein shakes then. If she is having regular protein meals, pure whey could be a good option. I generally only have a slow release protein before bed, and then I make sure that it is micellar casein rather than calcium.

Does she suffer from congestion or phlegm in her chest at all? That is a common symptom (as well as water retention) of dairy intolerance. I have a slight intolerance, so i have just had to find how much I can take before symptoms start to appear. Maybe the extra protein shakes have pushed her tolerance levels too far? Just an idea...

I think I'm going to look into one of the fruit flavored proteins so she can mix with water and see how that goes. She currently uses milk with the Nitro-core, so that may be hurting her as well. She did increase water intake today, and will continue that going forward.

Has she always used milk in her shakes or is this somthing she just started? If it is something new maybe its quite possibly a reaction to the lactose as that can make some people bloated.

Actually, other than when she used to use Nectar, yes, always with milk. So the milk itself isn't new, but the amount is definitely new. I'm hoping that once we make a few changes things will straighten out.

Day 22

Things seem to be getting back on track. Her weight is headed down slowly. She's stopped using the Nitro-core, and her new ATW Whey blend is on the way. Her water intake is MUCH better, so I'm sure that's helping. Thank you to everyone for your input on this.

Training is going very well for her right now. Her strength is increasing very nicely each workout. She's either adding weight or reps each workout, and is very happy with the results on that end so far.

Diet has been a little low on protein, but calories have been within the range she needs to be at. So I'm happy with that.

Prime is treating her well, the strength increases are very encouraging. She is having some increased aggression at times. This is both in and out of the gym. Not a bad thing, just something I've noticed. She doesn't seem to feel any more aggressive, but her fuse is pretty short right now.

I would drop the milk and use water in the shakes. Milk slows the absorption of protein and it's extra cals, carbs and sugar.

I hope it's working out better for Ally!

I don't think I can get her to totally drop it out. I'm going to suggest half milk, half water to start.

It seems to be working out better right now, thanks.

Milk protein is of an extremely high quality, the lactose does not behave like a normal sugar, and the calories are relatively dense. Milk is a wonder-food, IMO.

Personally,I agree and I like milk, but limit it when trying to stay very lean. 8oz a day is usually my limit during these times.

Ally's weight is down about 2.5 lbs, and it seems the Prime has added some muscle too. She is looking very good in her arms, shoulders, and upper back. She is very happy with what's going on now. We were talking last night about how she's feeling after a workout, and she definitely feels more full and pumped now than before she started Prime.

In general I would NOT use milk in shakes PWO. Milk is a decent food and can be good in a shake if the shake is during the day. I have seen not insignificant increases in appearance and performance in clients when dropping milk PWO. Just my 2 cents.

Good stuff! Keep getting the water in, that helps with more tightness :)
I have seen great stuff by bumping my water up. Keep it up Ally!!

I agree, I'll see how the ATW Blend mixes with water and see if she can drink it.

lol, she's doing pretty well with it actually. At first you'd have thought I was waterboarding her. After a few days of it, she's doing much better.

Thanks you guys.

LT* I too had an "adjustment" period when switching from milk, then to soy milk, and now to water with my protein shakes and it has made a huge difference in the extra calorie intake and less bloating. Something that I had to really work on was finding a protein that A) mixed well in water, especially with the addition of oats that are pullverized and B) taste good as well. So far all I have really been happy with is Champion Nutrition pure whey stack. I recommend it for various reasons like very low carbs, high quality protein content along with a large amount of EAAs and BCAAs, and the taste of both the chocolate and vanilla are very good in water. It is not that cheap for 5 pounds but it is worth it to me since I have at least two scoops a day with my pre-workout and if I make my protein whey/casein pudding before bed. Just some food for thought, all puns intended.

I always use water, with anything really. My wife likes them with milk. This wasn't an issue when she wasn't even having one a day. She then went to 2 everyday, and that seems to be to much for her. I'm going to have her on ATW Whey Blend made with half milk, half water starting when it arrives.

I agree, I'll see how the ATW Blend mixes with water and see if she can drink it.

When i first upped my water it was hard for me to get it all in but now that I drink 1.5 -2 gallons everyday my body actually craves it and have no problem what so ever getting all in. So just keep keep at it!!!

This is what I'm hoping happens with Ally.

Day 25

This week has been a much better week. Ally has dropped a few lbs in water, but her weight is now pretty close to where it was before she dropped it if that makes sense. The bloat she was experiencing seems to be gone, her clothes are fitting her better too. She is looking bigger for sure, and her strength reflects that in the gym. Prime seems to be treating her like it should, which is great for her. She's also having some great cardio sessions this past week.

I can always tell her overall strength is increasing by her performance on Leg and back exercises. She's been steadily increasing on those lifts every time she trains, so I know it's working. She still doesn't "feel" anything from it, but that is fine for her as she doesn't feel too many supplements. The strength and size increases are making her very happy though. She did say this week that she will run Prime again.

Her Whey protein will be in today, so she will start on those shortly to bump her protein intake back up.

I also have her taking AP (when she remembers) before all her bigger carb meals, so I'm sure that is contributing too.

More to come...

You mention that she isnt 'feeling' anything... How has her recovery been? Strength increases?

By that I meant she's not feeling that alpha-female type feeling. Her recovery seems to be very good, and she is stronger than she has been in a long time. She is LOVING that, and that's why she hasn't stopped using it even though she is not happy with her weight right now. She about 10 days left, and she'll be using it all the way through.

I'm LOVING PRIME!!! I feel like a freak on Chest day. My strength is most noticeable for some reason on pushing exercises but then again yesterdays back workout was off the charts!

Go Ally!! Good job with the strength gains.

She is and always has been stronger with pulling than pushing, but she's getting stronger in everything at this point. Her weight is staying steady at this point too. Although Shark week is due soon, so she'll be holding some water right now too. so she may have even dropped some weight. I'll update more after tonight's workout.

Day 34:

After about a month, I have to say that Ally is having some great workouts. Both cardio and lifting. The biggest difference is definitely seen in her strength and aggression in the gym. She continues to get either more reps or adds more weight to everything, each workout. Her pulling (rows, trap bar deads etc) are showing the most improvement. She is very happy with the results in that department so far.

She is looking more muscular through her arms and shoulders and upper back. She looks a bit softer in the ab and leg area. We're still trying to figure out why this is, but she's dealing with it for now. She's added almost 9lbs since starting Prime. Although I can see that not all of that is lean muscle, I would say a good percentage of it is. The increase in calories after eating a fairly low calorie diet for a long time may have just been too much for her system. She has started to eat a bit less, so once her pre menstrual bloating subsides, we will see some more definition in her trouble spots.

I just thought of something. . . .an alternative to Skim/Fat Free milk is Fat Free Hood Milk Invalid Link Removed. It has fewer cals/carbs/sugar. It's a little pricey for Milk ($5 give or take)
I have found it at Harris Teeter, Giant, and other grocery stores. I dont' think Trader Joes carries it but I could be wrong.

PRIME is going well for me too. I've noticed that I can do just as well if not better in my workouts on fewer cals/carbs. Which BLOWS my mind thus far during my diet. I've never been so low in cals LOL but it working! I'm also taking Jacked :) Holy mack that stuff is kicker. When I don't use that I use ZAP and some how I always seem to clean my house after working out on Zap days LOL. Doug can always tell when I took ZAP. HAHA.

I have noticed the same exact thing with PRIME too!! I love that I still have good stength while contest dieting! This was surly not the case last year so I know that it has to be the combination of the PRIME and powerfull! I hope it will stay this way too the end of prep as my cals/carbs keep on dropping!

The 6 weeks is done tomorrow, can't believe it went by so damn fast. I'm going to finish this up today though because we are going on vacation tomorrow and I won't have time to do it before we go.

Overall, Ally really liked Prime. Her goal of gaining strength was definitely achieved. Every lift went up, and some by 15-20lbs. After being stuck and struggling with the same weights for many months, this was huge for her. The water issue is still present, so we will see if it dissipates once she is off the Prime for a week. Her weight is up. It was as high as 10lbs at one point, but she lost 3 lbs over night last night, so it's about 7lbs. I don't believe this is all muscle, but I don't believe much if any is fat either. Her face and upper body are leaner than when she started, her low back, stomach and upper legs are puffy though. Once the water comes off, I will update this. I will say that she is definitely more muscular in her arms and shoulders, chest and upper back. She's gotten compliments on this actually.

She wanted me to thank USP labs for the opportunity to try Prime, and will be using it again, may not be until fall/winter depending on the water issue, but she loved the increased strength so much she is excited to see how far it will take her.
